 - suspend to ram is handled by gnome-power-manager


So you need gnome and maybe login to a gnome session.

You can use mplayer and mozilla-mplayer (debian packages). You need
realmedia codecs. Two options for installing the codecs:
- run
/usr/share/mplayer/scripts/binary_codecs.sh install
- install Linux PPC 20071007 codecs in your /usr/lib/codecs from
http://www1.mplayerhq.hu/design7/dload.html

You'll need installing the package libstdc++.so.5.

Using mplayer from debian or from www.debian-multimedia.org on powerpc
doesn't matter.

The problem here is the lack of RealMedia Codecs in debian's
repositories because they are not free. So the question is how to
install thes codecs.

Debian's mplayer package includes a script
/usr/share/mplayer/scripts/binary_codecs.sh for helping installing
realmedia codecs.
I don't know how the package mplayer from www.debian-multimedia.org
installs these codecs.
(On my amd64 laptop, I use mplayer + w64codecs from www.debian-multimedia.org)

These codecs need the package libstdc++.so.5 to work.

Juste pour compléter :
Les noyaux 2.6.17 à 2.6.23 contient seulement le driver bcm43xx qui a
besoin d'un firmware v3. Le nouveau driver b43 (à partir de la version
2.6.24 du noyau) nécessite un firmware v4.
Pour le firmware v3, on utilise normalement le paquet
bcm43xx-fwcutter, pas le paquet b43-fwcutter même si ce dernier marche
aussi (ce dernier installe les deux versions de firmware).

   handle_mm_fault in recent kernels. To fix this we have to talk to the
   kernel team to see if they accept the attached patch which reenables
   the export.
   Additionaly the modules as shipped in mol-source currently don't

Think, that has nothing to do with the missing cddv.c failure
building gtkpbbuttons.


It compiles and works fine on my ibook.

This config is for xkb-data = 0.8.13 (not in etch).
Two solutions :
- Using xkb-data from etch and your fr_new
- Installing xkb-data from unstable and configuring all in xorg.conf
(do not need fr_new)
With xorg, the file fr is in /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/macintosh_vndr/

You are right, we could try now to investigate this issue.
Those keys are redefined in /usr/share/X11/xkb/keycodes/macintosh,
but I do not know why.  Normally, FK13 is function key nr. 13,
so if you have such a key on your keyboard, you can run xev and
check its keycode.  It seems that it is 182, whereas it is 118 on
PC keyboards, which is why it is redefined.


There are only F1 to F12 on my ibook.

2) package console-data

I use mac-fr-ext (/usr/share/keymaps/mac/mac-fr-ext.kmap.gz) from
package console-data, which enables me to switch to X by ctrl + Apple
+ F7 and to write special characters using alt/option key in a
console.

With the xkb-data's default setting, I switch to console by ctrl +
alt/option + Fx, and write special characters with Apple or KP_Enter
key.

I have no preference among these two default settings.

This version is very similar to 0.8-12exp4, I believe
that it is pretty solid, but needs more polishing.
We can discuss to change default settings and broken
layouts, but keep in mind that since most layouts
were unusable, people now have different habits and
we cannot make everybody happy with default settings.

Please, test it, send feedback if something does not
work or can be improved, write documentation for other
powerpc users that could be included in xkb-data, etc.

I use the macintosh layout because I have an apple usb keyboard attached and
I want the keypad enter to be an enter key.

dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of unrar:

 unrar depends on libgcc1 (= 1:4.0.2); however:

So I tried to upgrade / install libc6, libgcc1 and libstdc++6, only to
find that I'm missing a lot of dependencies which are required for
those three. I started to wonder whether my kernel is out-of-date
(it's 2.6.8), if I upgrade the 2.6.16.14 kernel for PPC listed here:

Will it solve the lack of libraries problem? (Debian on iBook G3, OS X
was deleted.)

I found how to record !
I must use two channels. One channel doesn't work.

Using rec:
$ rec -c 2 test.wav
$ play test.wav

Using audacity:
Edit --- Preferences -- Channels: 2(stereo)
Then I can record from microphone

Note: In audacity, when recording, I see
L
R -
in the input level meter.
Only Right channel R works.
The Left channel dosen't works. Maybe this is why we can't record mono sound.

I don't use the microphone for a long time.
I've just tested the microphone. Now the microphone doesn't work on my
ibook G4 1.2 Ghz kernel 2.6.17-rc3.

Yes. It was used by package xlibs.

I found the new place /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/macintosh_vndr/ by
using package contents search:

The new package is xkb-data.

My ibook freezes when I want to use the _lateast_ bcm43xx/devicescape
driver for 2.6.16.
It freezes after the commands:

 iwevent while running wpa_supplicant. Can someone tell me what goes wrong?

 On IRC, I've got the to build with dscape, but the debian modules do only
 provide softmac and the only stuff I found for dscape needs a new kernel
 2.6.16-rc1.

Try not run dhclient directly. You can configure all you need in

  post-up iwconfig eth1 rate 11M
  post-up iwconfig eth1 essid ..
  #post-up iwconfig eth1 key ..

Use ifup eth1 and ifdown eth1.

 This brings me to my problem... I cannot get an IP

 I found that if I let dhclient run on one console and run iwlist eth1
 scan in another console then the dhclient immediately is able to get
 an IP address. So my question is... is there any option that I can
 pass to dhclient that will disable the up/down of interface if it is
 already up? Can someone please help?

I have this problem. For me, this is not only a remote interface problem.
I can't run two instances of firefox 1.5 (I could with 1.0 version):
In a xterm, try
$ firefox--- OK
$ firefox  --- nothing

I don't have the fonts for testing this.

It seems to me that you have a problem with your network configuration.
(because you use ip static)

(192.168.0.1 = ip_of_my_router)

Also check your /etc/resolv.conf

If you use the package resolvconf, you can add two lines
in your /etc/network/interfaces:

dns-search tele2.fr  ---my isp
dns-nameservers 192.168.0.1   ---ip_of_my_router
