Bug#607165: unblock: facter/1.5.7-2
Package: release.debian.org Severity: normal User: release.debian@packages.debian.org Usertags: unblock Hi release team! There have been a few issues that have come up in the facter package that should really be included in Squeeze. The puppet packaging team has fixed them and so I am writing to ask that you please make a freeze exception for facter 1.5.7-2. The choice for what changes to include were chosen specifically because they were simple, and important for Squeeze. This closes a number of bugs in the process (#515726, #585867, #585867, #515591, #603001): . debian/NEWS item to alert people about potential upgrade problems . fixed lintian error in debian/NEWS . add missing versioned dependency (ruby1.8) . removed unused dependency (cdbs) . fixed an important core fact (domain/fqdn) #515591 . added Vcs/Homepage fields to debian/control * debian/NEWS: fix lintian syntax-error-in-debian-news-file * debian/facter.8: fix manpage-section-mismatch * cherry pick important upstream virtualization support Let me know if you have any questions, and thanks again for your hard work on Squeeze, i'm looking forward to this release! unblock facter/1.5.7-2 -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.32-5-686 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-release-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#592721: unblock: embassy-* and emboss.
Dear release team, as invited by your latest release update, here is a last follow-up for the EMBOSS package (and to a lesser extent the EMBASSY packages), for which I requested an unblock in August. The version in Sid is the only supported upstream, contains many upstream corrections compared to the version in Squeeze, and allow partial upgrades from Lenny (thank you for having reminded me to support this). It is a major version released in June, was uploaded first in Debian in July, and the current package in Sid was uploaded in September. Since then, there was no user reporting problems with it. It is also used in derivatives like Ubuntu or Bio-Linux, and there as well, no problem was reported. The upstream bug tracker at sourceforge does not show anything particularly important. The only package that depends on emboss without being part of the EMBOSS/EMBASSY suite is emboss-explorer, and neither me nor others found or reported regressions when using it with Sid's version compared to Squeeze. The version in Sid also reduces the use of duplicated code copies, as it now builds on Debian's zlib and expat -dev packages. Here is the patch for the embedded-code-copies file in the secure-testing SVN repository to document that fact, that I have sent to secure-testing-t...@lists.alioth.debian.org. [RFC] subversion upload for squeeze - what to include
I'm very sorry for the late late notice, I should have gotten on this a week or two ago. There are quite a lot of upstream Subversion 1.6.x fixes that are not in squeeze, but most of them are probably not appropriate for squeeze at this point. Could someone give feedback on which (if any) of the following 3 patches would be appropriate for squeeze? None of them have bugs filed - these are fixes from upstream - but I can file corresponding bugs if you wish. I intend to upload to unstable, but of course I can do TPU if there turns out to be a need. 1. 'server-memleaks': Fix a handful of server-side memory leaks, in which untrusted remote clients can DoS a server by making it use way too much memory. There's a patch to shuffle around some memory pool usage - create, use, destroy. And a smaller patch for svnserve (for the svn:// network protocol), to tweak the behavior of the pool allocator so it frees memory more aggressively. libsvn_repos/rev_hunt.c | 56 +++- svnserve/main.c | 15 2 files changed, 51 insertions(+), 20 deletions(-) 2. 'dav-skip-unreadable-children': Patch to Apache mod_dav_svn ordinary directory listing, to filter out paths the user doesn't have permission to read. Could be construed as a security fix, to match the expectation that when you set a file (or subdir) as not readable, the existence of the file will also be hidden. Very un-Unixy; Unix admins should know better than to assume that. I believe this is _not_ needed in squeeze, but if debian-release thinks it would be useful, I will include it. mod_dav_svn/authz.c | 29 - mod_dav_svn/dav_svn.h | 31 +++ mod_dav_svn/liveprops.c |2 +- mod_dav_svn/lock.c | 18 -- mod_dav_svn/repos.c | 24 5 files changed, 72 insertions(+), 32 deletions(-) 3. 'no-wc1.7-check': Rip out some expensive code to detect, and abort, if you're in a Subversion 1.7 working copy. This was intended as future proofing, but we've since reconsidered and decided that it isn't really very important, and the client slowdown is far out of proportion to any value it brings. This is clearly not RC, but it's also easy to review: it merely deletes a function, its caller, and a few lines in the testsuite. libsvn_wc/questions.c| 59 --- tests/cmdline/svntest/actions.py |6 --- tests/cmdline/svntest/main.py|1 3 files changed, 66 deletions(-) Thanks! Why do you want to replace a recent version of open-vm-tools (which usually comes with a LOT of bugfixes by a pretty old version just to introduce the removed module again? It seems you're not willing to maintain this package properly, otherwise you'd look at your git repository (I'm sure it contains upstream's git, too) and revert the commit(s) which removed the vmmemctl module. Then - if you would care - would update the module to the latest version on kernel.org. And then you would test your changes properly on a VMware installation. Yes, I'm talking about proper testing, for example in some VMs on a ESX machine. Oh, you don't have ESX? I heard you can download it for free, at least for testing purposes. No hard tasks, so I fail to understand why we always run into RC bugs whenever we look at a new version of this package. I'd suggest you give the maintenance of open-vm-tools to somebody who actually cares about it. Or has the proper time to do so. - -- Bernd ZeimetzDebian GNU/Linux Developer http://bzed.dehttp://www.debian.org GPG Fingerprint: ECA1 E3F2 8E11 2432 D485 DD95 EB36 171A 6FF9 435F -BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE- Version: GnuPG v1.4.10 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Using GnuPG with Mozilla - http://enigmail.mozdev.org/ iQIcBAEBCAAGBQJNB+W9AAoJEOs2Fxpv+UNfbvkQAL8ttFctD7DfcG4O2RzP0uyV 8sl8Nl+8fxM2lmuKPVvkH3BDjSDF3Da930Ezr29GAAnBPi3X+wDGNee1CuIPaa2+ QqKwoeEi4279E1TJ54oY8VLzrcNX2GXAvzrq9iJpKJnkkZzHHOz0vmi5M0CrdMtW a1qif8EhTKtrI85CGPrlknl9QnH4wOMPQ+CjjDkTwsifY3atytbw4dBhMDtQ7KR5 JmU2kb0C3ASPm8iA5lgc7GjgTagguE0EtV94ckjhY/m1oa2HQNqmqZIBJHmBIs6b 4azR9N0Sx2/kTq96Q9xt5+qqWI72in5Tz2bKoqYPXo0k6sp2aSQSOeWW+1ReaO45 J6/YQIDVLsZWBLSot6W4Epg237gsjsRuxXWTehIoMqBYAN4wKA6eVzxF7vauu7Zn HPUvyUWAyCdMgG4wR6uniO+iW7faQ5wihzSGXfm00tZHFYKSlGV/uAw6o9+8B1Dg xI7QaIGGtI6o2hwoyVBckq9U+/3kqddqoOsxrmL3b5zSEqfeWZv0JN83o8szO9ub yPKSEq13ycRr0RElgxfNDK2slDDi6gt/pv7kERQEy5FmGV1JWKM6A3xSMP3hJSBG zQMO6ZP693kwGKyi2hGnibJOdfQalrrNFT1FHVLQ45UFIGWvTU89JFDVkdKcm6cF xmnNVhSFK98GnhHMQhN+ =7NVl -END PGP SIGNATURE- -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-release-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Yes, which is why I suspect a new build will fix it. I have no other idea here, look at https://buildd.debian.org/build.cgi?pkg=quadprog so see that quadprog built fine several dozen builds on all arches, and also see at https://buildd.debian.org/build.cgi?pkg=tseries tseries had never failed for armel before until this (random ?) break in quadprog. The R build process is __highly__ standardized; I maintain dozens of packages in the space and once built a process to autobuilds 2000+ source package into debs (at http://debian.cran.r-project.org -- but currently dormant). I still think that it may have been random, and that a new build would cure it. I'd be open to other fixes, but there is no issue with either tseries or quadprog. What does everyone think? I guess that it would have helped me quite a lot to know that this bug had a reply and it was now ignored for quite a month, but it seems that the reply above was not sent to the BTS and only to the mailing list: http://lists.alioth.debian.org/pipermail/pkg-cyrus-sasl2-debian-devel/2010-October/001957.html >> So, it appears that there are some other possibilities, thanks to a >> posting by Luca Capello [0]. I am not a library expert, but you cannot install both libraries together: = l...@gismo:~$ apt-cache show libsasl2-modules-gssapi-mit | grep Conflicts Conflicts: libsasl2-modules-gssapi-heimdal l...@gismo:~$ = So, if you want to debug the GSSAPI Heimdal library you need cyrus-sasl2-heimdal-dbg and, I guess, at the same time libsasl2-modules-gssapi-heimdal. Given that the latter conflicts with the former, it seems clear that the correct approach is the second option I proposed. Thx, bye, Gismo / Luca pgpb1MImDlzwN.pgp Description: PGP signature

The debian7 was in unstable since about 20 days, and 0.99.3debian8 just fixes a few small things. Bug#607073: login: securetty: Breaks graphical login of many passwordless users
Package: login Version: 1:4.1.4.2+svn3283-2 Severity: important The file /etc/securetty only lists X servers up to :3.1. For a two-three user system, it is common to see X servers with higher numbers (on my parent's laptop, I see gdm3 hanging at :6). On those servers, users without password cannot login anymore. Therefore please extend the list of secure ttys to something very high, so users will be able to login (let's say :99). In my opinion, this should be fixed for Squeeze (I think it's release critical, but that's the maintainers or the release teams decision). This should probably be fixed correctly in PAM later on, to allow local users to login regardless of the terminal, but it's too late to do bigger changes now. -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (350, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.32-5-amd64 (SMP w/4 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=de_DE.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=de_DE.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages login depends on: ii libc6 2.11.2-7 Embedded GNU C Library: Shared lib ii libpam-modules1.1.1-6.1 Pluggable Authentication Modules f ii libpam-runtime1.1.1-6.1 Runtime support for the PAM librar ii libpam0g 1.1.1-6.1 Pluggable Authentication Modules l login recommends no packages. login suggests no packages. -- no debconf information -- Julian Andres Klode - Debian Developer, Ubuntu Member See http://wiki.debian.org/JulianAndresKlode and http://jak-linux.org/. pgpb9eSMTgVaS.pgp Description: PGP signature

I've made some changes (debdiff attached) to the dma package which I haven't uploaded to unstable yet; do you think they are suitable for a unstable -> testing migration during the freeze, or should I upload to experimental instead, or just wait? The first change is a fix for #606398 - now dma provides the /usr/lib/sendmail symlink so some MUA's can actually, well, send mail. IMHO this is a usability improvement, although only for a small portion of the MUA's. The second change is a fix for a segfault if dma cannot resolve any of the MX's it tries to deliver to. This does not have any really bad consequences - the message is still in the queue and dma will retry the delivery in a while - but it is kind of annoying to have segfaults show up in your syslog just because a VPN is down :) So - what's your call? Should I upload to unstable with a freeze exception in mind, or should these fixes wait for the Squeeze release?
