Bug#692002: unblock: esmtp/1.2-10

2012-11-01 Thread Salvatore Bonaccorso
Package: release.debian.org
Severity: normal
User: release.debian@packages.debian.org
Usertags: unblock

Hi Release-Team

Please unblock package esmtp

esmtp 1.2-10 includes only a fix to the french debconf translation. It
had the wrong charset previously:

+ * Fix charset to UTF-8 for french translation
+debian/po/fr.po uses UTF-8, but was declared as using ISO-8859-1. That
+causes the debconf screen to be broken in French.
+Thanks to David Prévot taf...@debian.org (Closes: #691926)

Could you unblock esmtp 1.2-10? Attached is the debdiff.

unblock esmtp/1.2-10

Many thanks for your work,

Regards,
Salvatore

Bug#692010: unblock: raptor2/2.0.8-2

2012-11-01 Thread Jonathan Nieder
Package: release.debian.org
User: release.debian@packages.debian.org
Usertags: unblock

Hi,

Please unblock raptor2/2.0.8-2, which adds a Breaks against raptor1
versions without symbol versioning, fixing the important bug#656928:

| raptor_sequence.c:385: (raptor_sequence_get_at) assertion failed: object
pointer of type raptor_sequence is NULL.
| raptor_sequence.c:385: (raptor_sequence_get_at) assertion failed: object
pointer of type raptor_sequence is NULL.

To avoid confusion, I should mention that this update has a missing
changelog item for a minor change, unfortunately:

  * Stop passing --with-xml-parser=libxml to configure, since it is
redundant and unrecognized these days.

I provided a debdiff adding the missing changelog entry[1], but the
maintainer didn't seem interested, and I don't think that rises to the
level of NMU-worthy.

Thoughts welcome, as always.

Regards,
Jonathan

Re: Freeze exception request for intel-microcode and amd64-microcode

2012-11-01 Thread Philipp Kern
On Tue, Oct 30, 2012 at 09:14:48PM -0200, Henrique de Moraes Holschuh wrote:
 References: bugs #690285 and #690286

The versions of both intel-microcode and amd64-microcode currently in Wheezy
can trigger a nasty bug in initramfs-tools that renders the system
unbootable. The packages in unstable work around this issue.

The bug will only happen when $TMPDIR (usually /tmp) is mounted noexec at
the time update-initramfs is run. While this is quite unusual, it did hit
 one user (bug #689301).

In addition to the changes fixing that issue, the intel-microcode package
also contains a new upstream release. Intel issued a microcode hotfix for
all current i5/i7/Xeon processors in 2012-10-01. Due to the very unusual
nature of this microcode update (it is labeled 20120606-v2 by Intel, a
strong hint that it is fixing mishaps in the microcode release currently in
Wheezy), and the inclusion of microcode updates even to very high-end Xeon
E7 processors, it is likely fixing something very relevant.

The packages have been 20 days in unstable already, without any issues
 reported.

 Please consider unblocking intel-microcode (#690286) and amd64-microcode
 (#690285).

Really pretty please file an unblock bug for each package next time, thanks.

Hi,

The PTS does not show unblock requests (only actual unblocks), because
its data source (Britney) does not know about requests (only actual

Hi release team,

once again, this is a pre-upload approval request. The upload would fix
two dependency bugs (#679538 and #684714) which are not really grave (or
don't really affect Wheezy), but they are mostly harmless.

The final fixed bug is currently RC, although it's upstart related so
I'm not sure if the severity is really adequate (especially since the
fix is to completely remove the upstart job).

There's a bit of noise into the diff which is made by removing a patch
not in debian/patches/series. It's harmless too, sorry for the noise.

Debdiff is attached.

Please unblock package lightdm

The new upload renames to message catalogs from bn_IN to bn locale,
so that users of that locale are able to use the translations.

Moreover, the XML files of ISO 639 and ISO 639-3 are changed to
allow the usage of a common name instead of the official standard name
for the language Bangla (related to the above mentioned issue).

Last, there have been numerous translation updates for the other
ISO standards, including ISO 3166, which is used as a country list
in the Debian Installer.

Bug#692036: unlock apt/0.9.7.6

2012-11-01 Thread David Kalnischkies
Package: release.debian.org
Severity: normal
User: release.debian@packages.debian.org

X-Debbugs-Cc: de...@lists.debian.org

Please unblock package apt

Welcome to another lovely episode of APT unblock-request!
Previously on the show we had 0.9.7.5, today is all about 0.9.7.6
and the diff between the two looks like this:
(minus translation updates and testcases):
 apt-pkg/contrib/netrc.cc | 56
+++-
 apt-pkg/contrib/netrc.h  |8 +++-
 apt-pkg/depcache.cc |2 +-
 apt-pkg/edsp.cc |6 --
 apt-pkg/pkgcache.cc  |   25 +++--
 apt-pkg/pkgcachegen.cc | 17 +
 apt-pkg/policy.cc| 49
++---
 cmdline/apt-cache.cc |   10 +++---
 8 files changed, 112 insertions(+), 61 deletions(-)

The version has survived now 15 days without a single report of a regression
in unstable and I have the impression that it closes an RC bug (#689519) and
implements a feature debian-cd asked for to fix an rc bug on their side so
an unblock would be nice, but more on all this in the detail rundown:
(reordered a bit for my comment-convenience)

  * apt-pkg/pkgcachegen.cc:
- ensure that dependencies for packages:none are always generated

Fixing the arch-less packages support as denoted in the previous unblock
request. Making these broken systems now potentially even more broken
but in a more consistent way (sounds nice, doesn't it?).
Getting ride of arch-less packages is still your best option out of the mess
and the support is only there to help in this effort.

- write the native architecture as unique string into the cache header
as it is used for arch:all packages as a map to arch:native.
Otherwise arch comparisons later will see differences (Closes: #689323)

Comparing architectures can be done by string comparison or by comparing
the storage-location of the string. The second one is obviously a bit faster
(not that it would matter much). Codepaths in the EDSP support assume that
the second approach works. We could just use string-comparison here, but it
might not be the only place it is done this way in APT and even if it would
other users of libapt-pkg might do it. So it's better to make the assumption
true (again) than trying to find each place this assumption is made.

  * apt-pkg/pkgcachegen.cc:
- Fix crash if the cache is remapped while writing a Provides version
  (LP: #1066445) (Closes: #690498)
- add 2 missing remap registrations causing a segfault in case
we use the not remapped iterators after a move of the mmap again

I have the impression that these two are the reason behind the unreproducible
rc-bug #689519 as both issues are pretty hard to trigger (it not only depends
on the kernel growing mmap at the right time in these codeparts but also on
the kernel growing it in a certain way (aka: moving it around as not enough
space is available after the current mmap location)). Usually APT segfaults
in cache generation then, but if we are lucky the pointer is still valid
but now pointing at the wrong place in our binary cache, so that it might or
might not crash at any given moment (depending on what is now at the pointer
location and therefore overridden with a different kind of unexpected data …).

  * apt-pkg/pkgcache.cc:
- ignore negative dependencies applying in the same group for M-A:same
packages on the real package name as self-conflicts (Closes: #688863)

There is not a single instance of this in Debian so far, but it is what the
Policy will define with the introduction of Multi-Arch in it as Russ said in
the discussion triggering the bugreport, so better to get it straight now.

  * cmdline/apt-cache.cc:
- print versioned dependency relations in (r)depends if the option
APT::Cache::ShowVersion is true (default: false) as discussed in
#218995 to help debian-cd fixing #687949. Thanks to Sam Lidder
for initial patch and Steve McIntyre for nagging and testing!

It's a feature, but very small, disabled by default and it is blocking the
fix for a serious bug against debian-cd, so it's hopefully okay.

  * apt-pkg/edsp.cc:
- include reinstall requests and already installed (= protected) packages
in the install-request for external resolvers (Closes: #689331)

Usage of external dependency solvers isn't common, but if you do use it
is quiet important to provide the correct information to the solver or
otherwise bad things may happen.

  * apt-pkg/policy.cc:
- match pins with(out) an architecture as we do on the commandline
(partly fixing #687255, b= support has to wait for jessie)

Fixes the inconsistency between commandline and the preferences file
about how to interpret Package: pkgname. The commandline assumes
pkgname:native while the preferences file used pkgname:*.
This not only makes preferring certain architectures of

Bug#692011: unblock: taxbird/0.18-1.1

2012-11-01 Thread Toni Mueller

Hi,

On Thu, Nov 01, 2012 at 02:35:26AM -0700, Jonathan Nieder wrote:
Actually, including taxbird in wheezy might not be very useful anyway.
Its website says: Taxbird ist tot! ... lang lebe Geierlein. So
another option to consider is removal.

the typical use case is imho to have such software around for months to
be able to file taxes, or correct tax statements, up to several months
after the due date. The statement only means that the original taxbird
software will no longer be developed by its author, so it will stop
being useful after you need to file tax statements for 2013. He also
explains that the successor project is a complete rewrite, using a
vastly different technology (XUL, HTML5 and Node.js instead of C and
GTK+), so I guess it will take some time until the dust settles on that
one.

Kind regards,

Fixing pyatspi upgrades from squeeze

2012-11-01 Thread Josselin Mouette
Hi all,

as mentioned in #691160, in some cases APT fails to provide a clean
upgrade path from python-pyatspi to python-pyatspi2.

Since both packages are binary-compatible, the python-pyatspi2 package
should never have existed in the first place, but it’s a bit late for
that. I think the easiest way to make APT’s job easier is to remove the
current python-pyatspi package. Hence we can have 2 scenarios.

A:
 1. Make python-pytaspi an empty package depending on
python-pyatspi2.
 2. Make the conflict a versioned one.
 3. Remove the Provides in python-pyatspi2.

B:
 1. Remove python-pyatspi from the at-spi source package.
 2. Rename python-pyatspi2 to python-pyatspi.
 3. Make python-pyatspi2 an empty package depending on
python-pyatspi.

In both cases this needs a synchronized upload of at-spi and pyatspi2.

A11y maintainers: what are your thoughts?
Release team: would you accept such a change for wheezy?

Cheers,

Please unblock package apt

Welcome to another lovely episode of APT unblock-request!
Previously on the show we had 0.9.7.5, today is all about 0.9.7.6
and the diff between the two looks like this:
(minus translation updates and testcases):
 apt-pkg/contrib/netrc.cc | 56
+++-
 apt-pkg/contrib/netrc.h  |8 +++-
 apt-pkg/depcache.cc |2 +-
 apt-pkg/edsp.cc |6 --

 apt-pkg/pkgcachegen.cc | 17 +
 apt-pkg/policy.cc| 49
++---
 cmdline/apt-cache.cc |   10 +++---
 8 files changed, 112 insertions(+), 61 deletions(-)

The version has survived now 15 days without a single report of a regression
in unstable and I have the impression that it closes an RC bug (#689519) and
implements a feature debian-cd asked for to fix an rc bug on their side so
an unblock would be nice, but more on all this in the detail rundown:
(reordered a bit for my comment-convenience)

  * apt-pkg/pkgcachegen.cc:

  * apt-pkg/pkgcachegen.cc:

  * apt-pkg/pkgcache.cc:

  * cmdline/apt-cache.cc:
- print versioned dependency relations in (r)depends if the option
APT::Cache::ShowVersion is true (default: false) as discussed in
#218995 to help debian-cd fixing #687949. Thanks to Sam Lidder
for initial patch and Steve McIntyre for nagging and testing!

It's a feature, but very small, disabled by default and it is blocking the
fix for a serious bug

Please unblock package debdelta.

It corrects a nasty bug that occours with many KDE packages: those
contain a broken symlink, and 'debdelta-upgrade' would consider them
damaged, and not update them.

I also enabled the hardening flags.

I attach the debdiff.

PS looking at the debdiff I noted that a file tarpu.py seems
disappeared: I just deleted an useless symlink.

Thanks!

Re: Bug#691928: Bison: Downgrade to version 2.4 until wheezy is released?

2012-11-01 Thread Chuan-kai Lin
I am planning to downgrade bison in unstable by uploading an older
bison package with a higher epoch number. This approach seems to be
the path of least resistance, unless the release team wants to get
involved.

Felipe, is it really necessary to downgrade the unstable version all
the way back to 2.4? Testing has bison 1:2.5.dfsg-2.1, which was
uploaded about a year ago and not affected by #689700. Unless anyone
objects, I will bump the version number of bison 1:2.5.dfsg-2.1 to
2:2.5.dfsg-3 and upload it to unstable tomorrow.

Note that this downgrade is a temporary measure intended to
accommodate the special circumstances of the freeze. Once wheezy is
released and the freeze lifted, I will again upload the latest version
of bison. The broken packages will have to support the new behavior
(or alternatively convince bison upstream that they new behavior is
broken).

 Dear release team,

I'd like to point you to this bug in bison. Certain new features of
Bison 2.6 have caused incompatibilities with 2.4. This has resulted in

I have set the severity to serious, because it causes other packages
to FTBFS. Please advise with how to proceed for packages that
build-depend on bison (eg, see #689988).

Yes, sorry. I mean the version currently in testing. For some reason I

Yes, my upstream has fixed the issue, but the patch apparently got tangled
with other stuff and had some trouble backporting it.

libpam-ssh was removed because some easy to fix RC bugs persisted due
 to its unofficial orphan state.
This pacakge is already in Squeeze, and bug reports have been filled
to request its reintroduction to ( #664177 ).

It's not been in the archive for 11 months now. You might find that
someone else on the team disagrees, but I think several months in to the
freeze is too late to be reintroducing packages which aren't even in
unstable.

On a related note, I don't think that the package making it in to the
release should be being used as a benchmark for whether it should be
reintroduced to unstable.

You're right, it misses the explanation.

Because the test which was patched in use_system_crypt_fixes.patch
is correct again after extended DES was fixed. The crypt() should fail
when the salt starts with '_', but doesn't contain correct salt.

Anyway the tests are still not used to check whether the build should
fail or not, so it's purely cosmetic anyway.

Please unblock package php5

Hi,

this is the beast with ten horns :-/.

The -8 update fixes:

 - one security related bug (extended DES not detected when salt
   didn't have lenght == 9)
 - one security RC bug (PHP files exposed due typoed IfModule
   directive in apache2filter SAPI)
 - fixes libphp5-embed, so it can be used by external applications

The -9 update fixes:

 - adds more text about the mess created by php5 mime types removed
from mime-support package, there could be another update coming,
but there is still no agreement what solution would be the best.
 - adds logrotate script for php5-fpm so the log file doesn't fill
   up the disk.
 - adds Breaks: php5-suhosin, so it's explicit that php5-suhosin
   doesn't work with php5.4.

Re: Bug#654805: RM: hybserv -- RoQA; unmaintained, dead upstream, unused, no ipv6 support

2012-11-01 Thread Dominic Hargreaves
[please CC me on replies]

On Thu, Jan 05, 2012 at 10:25:23PM +0100, Moritz Muehlenhoff wrote:
Please remove hybserv. It hasn't seen a maintainer upload since
2006, the package is virtually unused in popcon and it lacks IPv6
 support (#629262)

Hello,

I use hybserv in squeeze and would like to continue using it after
wheezy comes out. I'd like to suggest that I take over this package
and re-introduce it into Debian (it looks Aurélien's other packages have
been orphaned (eg #677763). The package works with hybrid-ircd which
I have just adopted.

As far as I can tell from the bugs that were closed when it was removed,
this package did not have any serious issues outstanding; it's true
that there has not been a new upstream release for a while, however.
On the subject of IPv6 support, I do not believe that this is significant
in that the only direct network connection used is to the IRC server; I
imagine that most of the time this is on the same host.

Note that there are likely alternatives to this package, but they
are not available in wheezy (or compatible with the ircd-hybrid in
wheezy AFAIK). Once ircd-hybrid 8 has been packaged then there will
be more options available for ircd-hybrid users, I believe.

So, any feedback from the QA team and the release team about whether
I can reintroduce this package into sid and/or request it be migrated
to wheezy?

Thanks,
Dominic.

Bug#692074: unblock: procps/1:3.3.5-1

2012-11-01 Thread Craig Small
Package: release.debian.org
Severity: normal
User: release.debian@packages.debian.org
Usertags: unblock

Please unblock package procps

procps 3.3.5-1 is blocked because libproc1 is new. The problem is that
the oldest libproc0 will not work with 3.3.5-1 because the API changed.
This means current if you install procps 3.3.4 with libproc0 3.3.4 you
have an unbootable system. Critical bug 691847 is against procps 3.3.4
but I'd like this cleared up.

Bug#691065: unblock (pre-approval): network-manager-openconnect/0.9.4.0-8

2012-11-01 Thread Mike Miller
retitle 691065 unblock: network-manager-openconnect/0.9.4.0-8
thanks

 Dear Release Team,

I would like to upload a new network-manager-openconnect that fixes an
RC bug (#687557 and duplicates). Without this fix the gnome-shell window
manager crashes and the VPN connection fails, unreliably but somewhere
 between occasionally and frequently.

Just updating status: I have gone ahead and uploaded the proposed
package to unstable, debdiff remains the same. I hope you will consider
allowing this into the wheezy release, thanks for your time.

Bug#692074: unblock: procps/1:3.3.5-1

 Please unblock package procps

If I understand correctly this involves a small transition:

  Reverse-Depends: open-vm-tools 2:8.8.0+2012.05.21-724730-1+nmu1: libprocps0

  Reverse-Depends: xmem 1.20-27.2: libprocps0 (= 1:3.3.2-1)

That is, source packages open-vm-tools and xmem would need to be
rebuilt.

[...]
procps 3.3.5-1 is blocked because libproc1 is new. The problem is that
the oldest libproc0 will not work with 3.3.5-1 because the API changed.

I think including libprocps1 in wheezy would be good, but would it be
possible to back out the ABI break in sid in the meantime?

Thanks,
Jonathan

Re: Freeze exception request for intel-microcode and amd64-microcode

I did! The bug numbers mentioned in the please consider unblocking
sentence are the bug numbers of the unblock request bugs (#690285 and #690286).

I am sorry I was not sufficiently clear about it in the message.

If the main problem was in the name of the script, why is this still needed?

Because udev is not present in the hook level intel-microcode and
amd64-microcode runs (init-premount), it belongs to a hook level that runs
BEFORE that (init-top).

Therefore, that PREREQ was an error, and since I was already fixing breakage
in the interaction with initramfs-tools, I decided it was better to remove
the bogus PREREQ in case someone backports the package to a system with a
much older initramfs-tools (which doesn't support missing prereqs), or a
future version of initramfs-tools decides to not ignore the bogus PREREQ
anymore.

Tell me how to do it (not the API change, but more around the what
version etc) and I will.

I assume its making a 3.3.4-2 with a debian patch to reverse the API
and then do.. something.

I think the steps are:

 1. prepare 3.3.4-2 backing out the ABI change,
ask ftpmasters to reject 3.3.5-1 from NEW
 2. upload 3.3.4-2
 3. coordinate with the release team on the next step (probably
that means scheduling a transition to libprocps1)
