Re: Los tcp wrappers [Solución]
Hola, [ Me acabo de convencer... ¡KMail es basura! ¡¿text/x-java?!
Luis. -- Luis Francisco Gonzalez [EMAIL PROTECTED] PGP Fingerprint = F8 B1 13 DE 22 22 94 A1 14 BE 95 8E 49 39 78 76

Re: How to installation linux on win 98
Having had Win98 and Linux installed on the same disk drive and Win95 and Linux before that, I feel pretty confident that it works the same in either case. Re: Failure to recompile a system library (pthreads) under Debian 2.0
Thanks for the responses! The hint that the glibc2 distribution contained linuxthreads was what I was missing. What I did is change SIGUSR1 to SIGUNUSED and SIGUSR2 to SIGSTKFLT in internals.h in the linuxthreads directory and recompile (this was based on a suggestion from [EMAIL PROTECTED] who pointed out that LAM/MPI used SIGUSR1). I recompiled the library from source and successfully compile and ran the checks. I then replaced the libpthread.* libraries in the hamm distribution. After recompiling LAM with D_REENTRANT, all seems well and MPI now works together with POSIX threads. I need this so that I can take advantage of SMP on dual boxes in our network (Beowulf) cluster. --Martin Regarding your message dated: Sat, 12 Sep 1998 21:06:24 +0300 Besides pthread library is included with glibc2.0. There are many meanings for the t permission (usually referred to as the sticky bit). Originally the sticky bit was applied to frequently run programs so theyt would always be hanging around in memory (or at least in swap). However, setting the sticky bit on a directory means that only the owner of a file within that directory may delete it. This solves a thorny issue with /tmp: the directory must be world writable in order for all users to write files in it, but write permissions on a directory allow any user to delete any file, regardless of the file's permissions. Therefore the sticky bit, when applied to a directory, was interpreted as a special case. Now any user may create a file im /tmp and have reasonable assurance that another user will not be able to delete it. (There are still some exploit problems with /tmp, however). Any decent UNIX book will have a better explanation of this. : What this means !? /tmp directory isn't on any swap device ! : : It's a good policy for /tmp directory to have 777 permissions !? : With such permissions any user could write on that directory until even : there's no more space on device, rigth !? Most of my multiuser systems have many filesystems, with different quotas in place: brahe:~ $ cat /etc/fstab # /etc/fstab: static file system information. # # file system mount point type options dump pass /dev/sda1 / ext2defaults,errors=remount-ro 0 1 /dev/sdb7 none swap sw,pri=1 /dev/sdb8 none swap sw,pri=1 proc/proc procdefaults /dev/sda4 /usr ext2 defaults 0 2 /dev/sdb2 /home ext2 defaults, nodev, noexec, nosuid, usrquota 0 2 /dev/sda3 /var ext2 defaults 0 2 /dev/sdb3 /tmp ext2 defaults,usrquota=/var/state/quotas/tmp.quota 0 2 /dev/sda5 /var/log ext2 defaults 0 2 /dev/sdb5 /var/tmp ext2 defaults,usrquota=/var/state/quotas/vtmp.quota 0 2 /dev/sda6 /var/spool/mail ext2 defaults,usrquota=/var/state/quotas/mail.quota 0 2 /dev/sdb6 /var/spool/mqueue ext2 defaults 0 2 /dev/sda7 /var/spool/pop ext2 defaults,usrquota=/var/state/quotas/pop.quota 0 2 Some lines are broken, but you get the idea. A typical user's quota looks like this: brahe:~ $ sudo edquota webgod Quotas for user webgod: /dev/sdb2: blocks in use: 3529, limits (soft = 5120, hard = 7680) inodes in use: 206, limits (soft = 1280, hard = 1920) /dev/sdb3: blocks in use: 0, limits (soft = 49152, hard = 49152) inodes in use: 0, limits (soft = 12288, hard = 12288) /dev/sdb5: blocks in use: 0, limits (soft = 49152, hard = 49152) inodes in use: 0, limits (soft = 12288, hard = 12288) /dev/sda6: blocks in use: 0, limits (soft = 10240, hard = 15360) inodes in use: 1, limits (soft = 5, hard = 5) /dev/sda7: blocks in use: 0, limits (soft = 25600, hard = 25600) inodes in use: 0, limits (soft = 5, hard = 5) Our users get 5 MB home dirs, 10 MB mail spools, and at least three of them have to collaborate to fill /tmp or /var/tmp (each filesystem is 128 MB). This makes it easier to kick idiots off the system. You going to hear that most of the things you've suggested are being address or 'in the works.' The reason for this is that Debian Linux are from the Unix background. 1) Supported by volunteers. The volunteers are usually building stuff they find useful and donate it back to the public. 2) These volunteers have been in a highly technical environment. You'll see solutions there first. Unix was used for 'big' machines. Now that it is being used more on a desktop level, you'll see more 'hold your hand' or 'management' type software come available. I seem to be having the same problem as you are with my new 2.0 distrib. I know it's not too fruitful to receive another I have that problem too response, but perhaps we could colaborate until someone with a definite fix answers on the list. I have a Diamond Viper V330 card which is supported in the SVGA server and 4megs of vram and all of my other hardware works. My situation is similar, but on much more modest hardware. I'm installing to an old ThinkPad 701CS with 1024K video. I've noticed that I had to create my own symlinks from /usr/X11R6/bin/X - /etc/X11/X and from /etc/X11/X - /usr/X11R6/bin/XF86_SVGA. That was a little unusual I thought (having to create them, I mean). I also thought it was weird that the error would say no screens found when the XF86config clearly has them. I did try other XF86config files just for fun, and I wonder if the syntax hasn't changed from XFree 3.3.2 to 3.3.3. The error with the 3.3.2 config says it can't find an accel display configured, even though there is an Accel configured beautifully. I'm wondering if one of the following scenarios explains our problems: a) There's a new XF86Config syntax that XF86Setup doesn't fully know about. b) Something has changed from 3.3.2 to 3.3.3 such that symlinks don't get created properly or aren't used similarly, and such that configuration of the new version is different (trickier) than configuration of the old version. c) There's something really basic one or both of us overlooked because of a 2:00am brainfart that clouded our vision. Q: Why Midhight Commander stopped working on text console?
Hi! Who can tell my why my Midnight Commander stoped working on text console? When I type 'mc', screen goes blank and after couple of seconds only one character appears, in upper right corner of screen - usually it is '|', but sometimes it is '/'. When I'm starting Midnight Commander from under X11 (from various flavours of xterm), it works OK. I'm using Debian 2.0, but have upgraded a lot of packages from unstable distribution. Actually, I had upgraded Midnight Commander itself from unstable distribution, but that did not help. alex

Help AOL is silently rejecting my mail!
It seems that AOL is silently rejecting my emails that I send to users of the service. My setup is hamm with exim sending over a dial-up dynamic address to smarthost via smtp. I have header rewrite rules set to change the outgoing headers to correspond to that of the smarthost but I think I am missing something. I would guess AOL is rejecting it like spam that has bogus headers. My local machine name is brian.servis.snet which of course is a fake name. I have noticed in mails to this list that the Message-ID header is not being re-written(is it supposed to?), i.e. it still shows something like Message-ID: [EMAIL PROTECTED] My rewrite section of exim.conf is [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] Ffsr [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] Ffsr The above gives: % exim -brw [EMAIL PROTECTED] sender: [EMAIL PROTECTED] from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] cc: [EMAIL PROTECTED] bcc: [EMAIL PROTECTED] reply-to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] env-from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] env-to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] I didn't select to rewrite all headers because I want the inbound headers to reflect the local machine name. diald and kernel problems
Hi, I trying to set up diald. I had to recompile my kernel to enable slip support. I made it a module.
