2007-12-22 Thread hubble

Doncs si, al final he acabat fent servir rsync.

moltes gracies a tots

  /home/hubble/insti

  i remot:

  Los conection with the server

2007-12-22 Thread Philippe Niquet

Philippe NIQUET a écrit :

[...]
commande : lsof /dev/dsp

audio : sortie : Oss /dev/esd

A bientôt

sudo mount /mnt/cdrom y listo.

Wifi no funciona

2007-12-22 Thread Alwar
ping a 192.168.1.1 (gateway) me devuelve host unreachable teniendo

Hola:

Dec 23 02:14:09 smtp kernel: parport0: BUSY timeout (1) in

Muchas gracias.

RE: debian

2007-12-22 Thread Jens Hjalmarsson
Hej Mattias och listan,

Sökningen debian virtual domains på google.com ger bland annat följande
url:er som är vettiga i sammanhanget. De bygger visserligen mest på exim4
istället för postfix:

http://koivi.com/exim4-config/
http://www.debian-administration.org/articles/140
http://www.howtoforge.com/postfix_mysql_dovecot_dspam_clamav_postgrey_rbl_de
bian_etch
http://workaround.org/articles/ispmail-etch/
http://www.advogato.org/article/915.html
http://www.tty1.net/virtual_domains_en.html

Neste caso, você poderia tentar matar este processo.

sidestepping my questions and writing me off as a customer. oh well.

Its to do with the power management features of the drive. There is a
workaround:

sdparm --clear STANDBY -6 /dev/sd[Your device]

This question comes up a lot, especially from people who's computers
don't poweroff immediatly after that message gets posted. You see, /
can't be unmounted since the shutdown script is running off it, so it
gets mounted ro. The act of mounting ro syncs the disks. Then since
the filesystem is still mounted, the raid array can't be shut down.
However, there is no data activity at this point and the filesystem is
consistant.

In other words, don't worry about it. I haven't heard of anybody having
difficulty. Since its a generic error message (the raid system doesn't
know the system is shuting down), its too bad that the sysvinit
maintainers don't put a message in the shutdown script to Ignore the
following warning about not being able to shutdown the raid partition.

  RAID 1.

Now, I built an Array from the HD in use and know how to make it bootable,
but I suppose I have to make some changes to the boot-config before it will
run as before. Which could these be?

If you're using software RAID, the boot device will now be /dev/md?.
You will need to configure your boot loader (grub or LILO) to boot
from that partition, make sure your initrd loads all of the right
modules, and change your /etc/fstab to mount the md devices instead of
 the hard drive devices.

For Etch's install, grub can't boot from a raid array as /dev/md?. It
can read a single disk, so if its a raid1 array, both (all) partitions
are the same. My /boot is on raid1 and my Grub menu.list has entries
for /dev/sda1 and /dev/sda2. I have installed grub onto the MBR of both
disks so that I can still use a menu item to boot if one drive is
missing.

I have found this to be surprisingly tricky to get right on the first
try, so make sure you have a boot disk handy.

Creating a configuration file for the RAID devices seemed to help
mkinitrd/yaird figure out that it needed the RAID modules. grub
seemed to have better support for RAID than lilo, although it was a
bit magical and hard to debug when it didn't work properly.

At one point I found some useful instructions with google, but I can't
seem to find them now. Still, there seem to be some useful howto
guides that should get you pointed in the right direction.

Once GRUB boots, its easiest to use filesystem lables for device names
for the kernel and in fstab. Then the kernel can hunt and find what it
needs.

LVM over top of raid also works a treat.

That's why it produced exactly the same message as 'aptitude install

keyboard remapping

2007-12-22 Thread Nuno Magalhães
Greetings.

I'm running Debian unstable on AMD64. I have X and (for the time
being), GNOME. My locales are en_US.UTF-8, although i'd rather they
were pt_PT.UTF-8 by default. My keyboard map is portuguese, it has
deadkeys. In particular, the ^ key. If i press ^ and e, i'll get ê.
I'd like to do the same with 6 other letters and there are 3 ways.

- The correct one, where ^+letter would result in that same letter with ^
- the lazy one, where AltGr+letter would be used (i was previously
using this in another machine)
- the practical one: typing ex would produce ê

After using xmodmap -pke i wrote this file, called .eoklavoj:
keycode 30 = u U ubreve Ubreve downarrow uparrow
keycode 39 = s S scircumflex Scircumflex ssharp section
keycode 42 = g G gcircumflex Gcircumflex eng ENG
keycode 43 = h H hcircumflex Hcircumflex hstroke Hstroke
keycode 44 = j J jcircumflex Jcircumflex
keycode 54 = c C ccircumflex Ccircumflex cent copyright

...which is in my home. So issuing xmodmap .eoklavoj would produce
the desired effect. If i issue xmodmap -pke again, in fact those
letters appear to be changed. However, in terminal, xchat, iceweasel,
gedit, abiword, etc, etc they still have thir normal AltGr+
funtionality. C, for instance, still produces ¢ and (c), noc
c_with_circumflex.

This would be the lazy way. The output of xmodmap -pke does show all
the letters i want to change, and also the [~^] key, which is:
keycode 51 = dead_tilde dead_circumflex dead_grave dead_breve
dead_grave dead_breve
However, i couldn't find where is it defined which letters get to be
accented. I can easily produce ã, but not ~s for instance. If i want
to do it the right way instead of the easy way i'd need this
information and probably wouldn't need to fiddle with xmodmap.

This is xev's output when i press AltGr+s:

Use command line utilities like apt-get and paste the error on your screen.
Also please give the contents of your /etc/apt/sources.list and the details

To combine pdf files use pdftk.
pdftk in1.pdf in2.pdf cat output out1.pdf

To combine eps files use psmerge.
psmerge -ocombined.eps file1.eps file2.eps file3.eps file4.eps

More info can be found in their man pages.

Depending on the sizes of these pdf/eps/ps files, you can also open up a
word processor (oowriter or texmacs), insert these files and then export
the resultant file into a .pdf file. This works well if the files are small
or if multiple images can be fit into a single page etc.,

Something is moving my saved mail

2007-12-22 Thread Alan Chandler
My home server, running etch has a mail server that is based around
exim. I have set it up to copy all outgoing mail from local users to
~user/Maildir/.Sent directory.

What is really strange however is that about monthly mail is moved from
this .Sent directory and copied into some maildir formated directories
called .Sent..MM-mmm (where is the four digit year, MM the two
digit month and the mmm is the three letter abbreviation for month).
This makes the sent mail appear in an imap world to sit in yearly
directories and then monthly directories in a tree below Sent mail.

I have searched all the cron scripts I could find to see how this mail
gets moved.

My wife and I both use pop3 access to retrieve our inbox. I use imap to
access the imap account buy my wife doesn't.

I also use sqwebmail a lot, my wife not at all. my children have only
occassionally used e-mail from home - other than some access from
sqwebmail.

But I am the only one with a regular copying of this mail. The rest of
my family have only sporadic mail entries. of archived mail.

It is almost as though using something like sqwebmail causes the e-mail
to get archived, but it might be accessing the mail through my
courierimap server that does it.

Can someone put out my misery and tell me how it is done

I want to use the TV screen to watch films.

When I play a video on the first screen, the video is fine. But I want

the 16:9 aspect ratio in gmplayer, the video is shifted to the up of
the screen. It mean I see a black rectangular area on the bottom of

Is the problem related to gmplayer or to xserver-xorg-video-ati?

Any ideas are welcomed.

Thanks in advance.

This *sounds* like you're having a problem where the screens have a
different vertical resolution and since X deals with a rectangular
virtual desktop [0] there is dead space above the second screen but the
video output is centered vertically on the virtual desktop not the
resolution of the screen.

You can probably tell mplayer to move things down, or you could get your
second display to center on the virtual desktop using something like

   Option CRT2Position LeftOf 176
in your xorg.conf if you're using MergedFB, instead of 176 you'd use
half the difference in vertical resolution between your primary and
secondary displays.

Good luck and let us know how it goes, if you have more questions post
here but you may want to include more details.

[0] I think this the true irrespective of weather your using MergedFB,
XRandR or Xinorama and probably TwinView

need help on getting CD-Writer working in etch

2007-12-22 Thread Serena Cantor
I attach a CD-Writer(hdb) after installing etch on hda

According to /usr/share/doc/wodim/README.ATAPI.setup:

If you have just one CD writer in your computer, CD-writing should
work out of the box. There should be a symbolic link /dev/cdrw which
points to your actual CD-Writer's device (e. g. /dev/hdb). If the link
is not present (eg. the system is not using udev/devfs) or if you want
to use a different device as default, you can configure the device in
/etc/wodim.conf:

  CDR_DEVICE=/dev/hdd

Surely it isn't that simple.

If I attach CD-Writer before installing etch, maybe it will be
configured correctly.

During boot, I see CD-Writer detected as hdb, I know it should be
ignored and use scsi-emulation. I just don't know how to do it.

However, I can't find it in xfontsel until I manually add the
fontpath by the command:

$ xset +fp /usr/share/fonts/X11/myfonts

Actually, I have added the folder into the font search list by
configuring the following two conf files:

1) /etc/fonts/fonts.conf:
 !-- Font directory list --
   dir/usr/share/fonts/X11/myfonts/dir
2) /etc/X11/fs/config
  # paths to search for fonts
  catalogue = /usr/share/fonts/X11/myfonts/,

But it seems doesn't work adding the font path automatically. When the
system is rebooted, I have to manually add the fontpath by xset +fp
command to make the font path available to xfontsel.

Any one have idea about it?

Thanks a lot!

I have a Buffalo router that connects to my WAN and then one of the LAN
ports on this router connects to my IPCOP firewall that is running on a PII
-- 400 MHz box with 64 MB of RAM.

When I do a speed test from my box behind my IPCOP firewall, I get about
 10K Mbs up/down.

If I move the connection to one of the Buffalo router LAN connections, I
get the advertised 15K Mbs up/down speed.

So routing traffic thru the IPCOP firewall slows things down quite a bit.
Is this to be expected? I was thinking of changing the firewall to a
debian box running shorewall, and was wondering if I could tweak the
firewall/router to not slow things down appreciably like the ipcop box is
 doing.

 Thanks,

 John Schmidt

To follow up on my issues with network speeds coming out of my firewall, I am
a bit embarrassed to admit that I had an old ISA 10 Mbps card connecting to
my LAN which was the culprit.

During the process of figuring things out, I removed my IPCOP configuration
and installed Etch + shorewall + faster NIC on the same box and am now seeing
roughly 15 Mbps connections like I am supposed to from my firewalled
connections.

I had to learn a bit about shorewall configuration and ensuring that my 2 NICS
were consistently labeled via udev (which fortunately happens automatically).
I am much more comfortable with my debian setup than messing around with
ipcop's web browser configuration.
