[HS] Installation Imprimante réseau (type jetdirect ?)

2010-05-01 Thread Grégory Bulot
Bonjour,

http://www.pcworld.com/reviews/product/27600/review/laser_printer_1710n.html.

Error while loading shared libraries: libpoppler-qt4.so.3: cannot open
shared object file: No such file or directory

la libreria se encuentra instalada en:
/usr/lib/libpoppler-qt4.so.3

Gracias

Proba hacer un

ldd `which cmd`

open(/usr/lib32/tls/libpoppler-qt4.so.3, O_RDONLY) = -1 ENOENT (No
such file or directory)

ln -s path_lib_instalada /usr/lib32/tls/libpoppler-qt4.so.3

http://packages.debian.org/search?keywords=libpoppler-qt4searchon=namessuite=allsection=allsourceid=mozilla-search

Re: Questions about RAID 6

On 04/26/2010 09:29 AM, Tim Clewlow wrote:
 Hi there,

I'm getting ready to build a RAID 6 with 4 x 2TB drives to start,

Since two of the drives (yes, I know the parity is striped across
 all
the drives, but two drives is still the effect) are used by
 striping,
RAID 6 with 4 drives doesn't seem rational.

We've taken OP to task already for this, but I guess it bears
 repeating.

Use multiple HW controllers, and at least 7-8 drives, I believe was
 the
consensus, given that SW RAID 6 is a performance loser and losing a
controller during a rebuild is a real ruin-your-week kind of moment.

But while some of us were skeptical about just how bad the
 performance
of RAID 5 or 6 really is and wanted citation of references, more of
 us
just questioned the perceived frugality. With four drives, wouldn't
 a
RAID 10 be better use of resources, since you can migrate to bigger
setups later? And there we were content to let it lie, until...

but the intention is to add more drives as storage requirements
 increase.

My research/googling suggests ext3 supports 16TB volumes if block

Why ext3? My kids would graduate college before the fsck
 completed.

ext4 or xfs are the way to go.

I have ceased to have an opinion on this, having been taken to task,
myself, about it. I believe the discussion degenerated into a
 nit-picky
banter over the general suitability of XFS, but I may be wrong about
 this...

 _

Seriously, ext4 is not suitable if you anticipate possible boot
problems, unless you are experienced at these things. The same is
 true
of XFS. If you *are* experienced, then more power to you.
 Although, I
would have assumed a very experienced person would have no need to
 ask
 the question.

Someone pointed out what I have come to regard as the best solution,
 and
that is to make /boot and / (root) and the usual suspects ext3 for
safety, and use ext4 or XFS or even btrfs for the data directories.

(Unless OP were talking strictly about the data drives to begin
 with, a
possibility I admit I may have overlooked.)

 Have I summarized adequately?

 MAA
.

First off, thank you all for the valuable information and experience
laden information. For clarity, the setup has always been intended
to be: one system/application drive, and, one array made of separate
drives; the array protects data, nothing else. The idea is for them
to be two clearly distinct entities, with very different levels of
protection, because the system and apps can be quite quickly
recreated if lost, the data cannot.

More clarity, the data is currently touching 4TB, and expected to
exceed that very soon, so I'll be using at least 5 drives, probably
6, in the near future. Yes, I know raid6 on 4 drives is not frugal,
I'm just planning ahead.

My reticence to use ext4 / xfs has been due to long cache before
write times being claimed as dangerous in the event of kernel lockup
/ power outage. There are also reports (albeit perhaps somewhat
dated) that ext4/xfs still have a few small but important bugs to be
ironed out - I'd be very happy to hear if people have experience
demonstrating this is no longer true. My preference would be ext4
instead of xfs as I believe (just my opinion) this is most likely to
become the successor to ext3 in the future.

I have been wanting to know if ext3 can handle 16TB fs. I now know
that delayed allocation / writes can be turned off in ext4 (among
other tuning options I'm looking at), and with ext4, fs sizes are no
longer a question. So I'm really hoping that ext4 is the way I can
go.

I'm also hoping that a cpu/motherboard with suitable grunt and fsb
bandwidth could reduce performance problems with software raid6. If
I'm seriously mistaken then I'd love to know beforehand. My
reticence to use hw raid is that it seems like adding one more point
of possible failure, but I could be easily be paranoid in dismissing
it for that reason.

Regards, Tim.

Try another drive (best would be a dvd burner).

Apart from that, you could try ddrescue and just plain copy the whole

Most of the cheap in built audio cards could only support 16bit 44100Hz/48000Hz
So just see the specification of your audio card.
But audio players could down sample them to 16bit 44100Hz/48000Hz,
windows player may be doing that. But of course, that reduces the
quality.

Most of the cheap in built audio cards could only support 16bit
 44100Hz/48000Hz
So just see the specification of your audio card.
But audio players could down sample them to 16bit 44100Hz/48000Hz,
windows player may be doing that. But of course, that reduces the
 quality.

Ah, okay. So the decoding is being done on the sound card? In what sense
does the sound card need to support the file type?

OK, I think I understand a little bit better how this is supposed to be
working now. Try to add your touchpad options to the InputClass section
of the file /usr/lib/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-synaptics.conf as a first test.

I am curious to hear if this actually works because I cannot try it
myself. (My up-to-date Sid desktop does not have a touchpad.)
Hi Florian,

The new xorg version migrated to testing today, and indeed contains the
file /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/50-synaptics.conf. Setting the options
there enabled my special touchpad-tricks again. Thanks!

NVidia MCP61, no sound...

2010-05-01 Thread Andrea Giuliano
Hi,

I'm running Lenny on a brand new AMD64, and just one thing is not
working at all: the sound card.

I mean, it seems to be perfectly detected, I get no errors at all from
any sound application, but I can't get sound from any jack I connect my
speakers (or headphones) to.

Here are lspci for the card:

00:05.0 Audio device: nVidia Corporation MCP61 High Definition Audio
(rev a2)
Subsystem: ASRock Incorporation Device 0397
Control: I/O- Mem+ BusMaster+ SpecCycle- MemWINV- VGASnoop-
ParErr- Stepping- SERR- FastB2B- DisINTx-
Status: Cap+ 66MHz+ UDF- FastB2B+ ParErr- DEVSEL=fast TAbort-
TAbort- MAbort- SERR- PERR- INTx-
Latency: 0 (500ns min, 1250ns max)
Interrupt: pin B routed to IRQ 22
Region 0: Memory at f9ef8000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable)
[size=16K]
Capabilities: access denied
Kernel driver in use: HDA Intel
Kernel modules: snd-hda-intel

I already ran alsaconf, which finds the card and configures it saying
enjoy too!

Could it be that all external jacks are disconnected at all due to some
mistakes during the assembly of the whole box? Clearly front connector
must be connected manually, but I really don't think that the rear ones
must be enabled with jumpers or such.

Any hint would be very much appreciated.

Best regards.

* Native capability of sound card can be found from
cat /proc/asound/card0/pcm0p/sub0/hw_params

* Decoding is done by the player itself, most probably the decoder
output format in your case would be 96khz, 24 bit little endian. If
the native rate of your card is only 44100Hz/48000Hz, it can not
support this.

* In order to play this format this has to be downsampled. The
downsamping could be done either by 1) the player itself, but it
completely depends upon the features and capabilities of the player or
2)by the (alsa) driver.

So these are your options.
* Try out different players as Camaleón suggested.

* Many players allow you to specify the output audio device.
Try plughw:0,0 instead of the default one. This is a special device
given by alsa to do audio processing.

make sure that the module is loaded correctly.

Also open the mixer using alsamixer/kmix/gnome-volume-control or any

Front connector has to be manually plugged, yes. But embedded sound
chipset has also to be enabled in the BIOS in order to work (which is the
default) and as you already tested, it is detected by the system, so I
don't think this is the problem here.

I would go for a software problem configuration as d.sastre.medina
already pointed out (sound levels muted -or very low-, or sound card
model wrongly recognized by alsa and so the number and position of the
inputs/outputs).

Anyway, you can always load any LiveCD to check if sound is workimg from

my sig was asking people to perform an action - change their habit -

glXCreateContext failed in Squeeze

2010-05-01 Thread Jason Filippou
Hello,

I recently switched back to the GNOME desktop environment from KDE and I'm
interested in running Compiz Fusion,
which I remember playing with when I was using the Ubuntu distribution.
First thing I did was follow the instructions
outlined here:

http://wiki.debian.org/Compiz

And everything was going smoothly up until the compiz --replace command,
which outputs:

ja...@debian:~$ compiz --replace
compiz (core) - Fatal: glXCreateContext failed
compiz (core) - Error: Failed to manage screen: 0
compiz (core) - Fatal: No manageable screens found on display :0.0

Launching fallback window manager

Which is obviously metacity. I googled a bit but almost all forum posts I
found regarded the Fedora distribution. Here's one that didn't:

http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=116895

However, I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do to uninstall the NVIDIA driver
(which I've installed with the NVIDIA installer),
since that guy says to do so in the sentence:

I uninstall NVIDIA driver have installed Nvidia way - not Debian way.

So I'm still stuck. I ran the compiz check script hosted on Forlon's
blog (http://forlong.blogage.de/entries/pages/Compiz-Check)
and here's the output:

ja...@debian:~$ ./compiz-check

Gathering information about your system...

 Distribution: Debian GNU/Linux (squeeze/sid)
 Desktop environment: GNOME
Graphics chip: nVidia Corporation GT216 [GeForce GT 220] (rev a2)
 Driver in use: nvidia
 Rendering method: Nvidia

Checking if it's possible to run Compiz on your system...

 Checking for texture_from_pixmap... [FAIL]
Checking for non power of two support... [FAIL]
Checking for composite extension... [ OK ]
Checking for FBConfig... [ OK ]
 Checking for hardware/setup problems... [SKIP]

At least one check had to be skipped:
Error: Unable to detect maximum 3D texture size

ja...@debian:~$

This is an obvious problem, because after reading a little about
compiz-fusion I understood that it's practically based on the
openGL extension texture_from_pixmap which I, for some reason, lack.

Before going ahead and doing something that might eliminate my ability to
launch an X session, I thought I might resort to this list
for the most up-to-date information as to what I should do. I am attaching
my /etc/X11/xorg.conf, /var/log/Xorg.0.log as well as the full output of
glxinfo so as to not clutter this message any further with their data. In
xorg.conf you will notice that I have added dummy
Identifier strings to all the xorg.conf sections that the wiki.debian
article I linked to suggests that I add. This was done because my
xorg.conf would not be parsed otherwise and I would be stuck with a terminal
interface. The startx command complained about xorg.conf sections lacking
Identifier strings.

Thank you very much for your time and interest,
Jason

Re: glXCreateContext failed in Squeeze

2010-05-01 Thread Andrea Neroni
 Hello,

I recently switched back to the GNOME desktop environment from KDE and I'm
 interested in running Compiz Fusion,
which I remember playing with when I was using the Ubuntu distribution. First
thing I did was follow the instructions
 outlined here:

 http://wiki.debian.org/Compiz

And everything was going smoothly up until the compiz --replace command,
 which outputs:

 ja...@debian:~$ compiz --replace
compiz (core) - Fatal: glXCreateContext failed
compiz (core) - Error: Failed to manage screen: 0
compiz (core) - Fatal: No manageable screens found on display :0.0

 Launching fallback window manager

Which is obviously metacity. I googled a bit but almost all forum posts I
found regarded the Fedora distribution. Here's one that didn't:

 http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=116895

However, I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do to uninstall the NVIDIA driver
(which I've installed with the NVIDIA installer),
since that guy says to do so in the sentence:

I uninstall NVIDIA driver have installed Nvidia way - not Debian way.

So I'm still stuck. I ran the compiz check script hosted on Forlon's blog
 (http://forlong.blogage.de/entries/pages/Compiz-Check)
 and here's the output:

 ja...@debian:~$ ./compiz-check

I am attaching my
/etc/X11/xorg.conf, /var/log/Xorg.0.log as well as the full output of
glxinfo so as to not clutter this message any further with their data. In
xorg.conf you will notice that I have added dummy
Identifier strings to all the xorg.conf sections that the wiki.debian
article I linked to suggests that I add. This was done because my
xorg.conf would not be parsed otherwise and I would be stuck with a terminal
interface. The startx command complained about xorg.conf sections lacking
 Identifier strings.

Thank you very much for your time and interest,
 Jason

This happened to me many times and I fixed it reinstalling the driver.
Seems that you are using official nvidia driver.
If it is you have a .run install file. What I usually make is to go to a shell,
stop grphic session,
uninstall the driver, reinstall the driver and everything go smoothly.
So:

ctrl+alt+f1// for a shell
log in using root
go to the place where you have the .run file (for me is /usr/src)

cd /usr/src
/etc/init.d/gdm stop
./name_of_driver.run --uninstall//uninstall driver
./name_of_driver.run -N//reinstal driver
/etc/init.d/gdm start

If the installation complain about the gcc compiler version used to compile
your kernel
abort installation and:

export CC=/usr/bin/gcc-4.3

using the correct number version. If you are using Squueze up-to-date I think
gcc-4.3
should be fine.

migrate with a cyrus tool which is not working atm,
./mailboxes.db: Cyrus skiplist DB (which it has a different name
simply mailboxes, without the .db extension)
./annotations.db: Cyrus skiplist DB (which is not mentioned in the
 tutorial)
So far im focused in trying to get this DB to the proper format
version 9 in the standard Lenny install, and see what happens,
 without much success.

db*_upgrade will upgrade (NOT DOWNGRADE) a berkeley database. Run it from
the main environment directory. It is in the db*-util packages. Use the
correct target version (for cyrus, see the package dependency list to know
which libdb it uses).

Just delete tls_sessions.db. It is the TLS session cache.

You can consider deleting deliver.db. It is the cache used for duplicate
suppression and to avoid sending vacation messages to the same recipient
twice. There will be very little harm done (if any) should you delete it.

Consider reading the documentation for berkeley DB, especially the stuff
prepared by OpenLDAP and samba (look in their web pages). Screw that up,
and your performance goes downhill.

Consider reading the archives of the cyrus users ML, hunt down from any
posts from @fastmail.fm and read them. They _REALLY_ know their stuff.

All skiplist DBs are auto-upgraded by cyrus on access. If one wasn't,
chances are it is corrupt and you have a big problem.

After you manage to start cyrus, run cyrquota and cyrreconstruct over *ALL*
mailboxes. I mean *ALL* of them. And this _will_ take time. You could do
it with the system in use, but since it is a safety measure to insure there
is no inconsistent data, well, it is best done before any read or write
access is done to the mailboxes.

And do remember cyrus has databases stored in the user dirs as well. Debian
packages should have them skiplist or plaintext, which don't require manual
intervention, but check it (seen database).

Sieve requires conversion of _all_ scripts on all spools. Look for the
massievec script and run it on every sieve script.

This is _all_ in the cyrus documentation, although probably not organized
like that...

So the codec is VIA ID 397. Maybe quite new for your alsa version.

Mmmm... A quick Google search¹ seems to indicate the codec is supported
since ALSA 1.0.19 and as you are running Lenny I'm afraid you'll have

Just to be sure, try a LiveCD of any distribution that includes a newer

Re: Can't play 24bit/96kHz flac files

2010-05-01 Thread James Stuckey

Another possibility would be to down-sample the file and then play it with
mocp. How does one down-sample a .WAV file?

I tried mplayer -ao plughw:0,0 file.mp3 but I got:
No such audio driver 'plughw'
No such audio driver '0'
Could not open/initialize audio device - no sound.
Audio: no sound

Both locale and ldconfig were shifted from libc6 to libc-bin going
from Lenny and Squeeze; my guess would be that you upgraded to the
Squeeze version of libc6, but you did not yet complete the installation
of libc-bin, so now these important commands (and others) are missing on
your system. (The libc-bin package does not exist for Lenny.)

If dpkg still works then you can try to download libc-bin for your
architecture from http://packages.debian.org/squeeze/libc-bin and
install the .deb with dpkg -i ..., see here:

Try another drive (best would be a dvd burner).

Apart from that, you could try ddrescue and just plain copy the whole
disc to an iso imagefile.

ddrescue or gddrescue?

Also, check out vobcopy, it's my fav
application to backup dvds.

I'll try that.

aptitude in lenny: cmdline queueing of packages

remove, etc) by use of 'aptitude install', with no arguments.

How does one queue packages using only the command line? I'm looking to

sudo aptitude

Q

Standard information sources (README, usd/aptitude, etc) were no-go as
to getting the information.

Any pointers would be appreciated.

Actually, the x permission on a directory means search (i.e. find
a file in) the directory. If you already know the name (or have
guessed it) of a file in the directory and you have --x (no-read, no-
write, yes-search) on the directory and 'r--' (read-only) on the file,
you can read the file even though you can't read the directory.
That's a feature, and it dates back to early days in UNIX.

What you are seeing is a corner case caused by that feature. If you
have r-- on the directory you can read it, but you can't find any of
the files whose names you can read. So you can't get those files
permission bits or mod-time's etc. So ls fails in the bizarre way
you are seeing.

So you can read the directory without the x bit, but it doesn't do
you a fat load of good.

Enjoy!

the native rate of your card is only 44100Hz/48000Hz, it can not

 * In order to play this format this has to be downsampled.  The

completely depends upon the features and capabilities of the player or
 2)by the (alsa) driver.

 So these are your options.
 * Try out different players as Camaleón suggested.

 * Many players allow you to specify the output audio device.
Try plughw:0,0 instead of the default one.  This is a special device
given by alsa to do audio processing.

You have that option always. Decode it user flac decoder to wave
file, then downsample it. You could encode it back to mp3/ogg etc.
There are many programs to do downsampling. I think even the
lame/oggenc support downsampling.
Otherwise install the package samplerate-programs and sndfile-resample

support outbound SSL / TLS connections, and indeed, that was a primary
design goal, since I need to push mail out through Gmail's SMTP
servers, which require SSL / TLS.

I've usually used qpsmtpd to process mail then either:

 * Reject it at SMTP time.
 * Accept it for delivery and write the mail directly to Maildir folders.
 * Accept it for delivery and pass to exim4 for final delivery.

(ie. I've never tried to re-deliver to a remote machine via qpsmtpd,
  only via passing to exim4.)

Got it. The O'reilly discussion that I saw also mentioned that qpsmtpd
was primarily meant to be used in conjunction with a normal MTA, and
not to replace one.

Re: Mounting DVD. What am I doing wrong?

2010-05-01 Thread Zoran Kolic
Your perms are missing the x flag for the owner so no access is
allowed. I recall a similar situation in another mailing list...

I don't want to *execute* the files, I want to *read* them.

You already got the answer. Directories have to have x
flag to let user in. I assume your dvd was written with
original permissions. Try out to have it on hdd and make a
little experiment. Change flags on/off. That way you will
learn what works and what does not.
Best regards

   Zoran

apt-show-versions |  grep unstable

 aptitude search ~Aunstable~i

That'll show packages that are available from sid and that are
installed on your computer.  That could include packages you installed
from testing, but that are also available from sid.  If you want to
check that the installed version is also available from sid, you'll need
 to wrap it in '?narrow':

 $ aptitude search '?narrow(?archive(unstable), ?installed)'

Many thanks. I have finally understood the purpose of narrow (and had
my misunderstanding of and corrected!).
