at et alias

2011-01-13 Thread TISSET Mathieu

monfichier.sh now',

Merci d'avance,

Magic SysRQ + Xen + screen + Putty

2011-01-13 Thread Jean Baptiste Favre

[HS] Load Balancing Disques Durs

2011-01-13 Thread Kevin Hinault

A priori

ya se hacerlo, he buscado en internet y he conseguido y he probado algunas

Linux agpgart interface v0.103
[drm] Initialized drm 1.1.0 20060810
[drm:i915_init] *ERROR* drm/i915 can't work without intel_agp module!

instalados sao:

:~$ dpkg -l \*nvidia\* | awk '{print $2}'

libgl1-nvidia-alternatives
libgl1-nvidia-glx
libglx-nvidia-alternatives
nvidia-glx
nvidia-kernel-2.6.32-5-686
nvidia-kernel-2.6.32-5-686-bigmem
nvidia-kernel-common
nvidia-kernel-dkms
nvidia-settings
nvidia-vdpau-driver
nvidia-xconfig

terras sombrias do tio Portões.

Maravilha.

(compose:rwin,nbsp:level3n), não funcionam no X, me forçando a voltar

Obrigado antecipadamente!

Ubuntu is a debian based distribution of Linux, but they add a lot of
their own things. One thing that they add is called Wubi. Wubi was
written by the Ubuntu team. Wubi is a Windows program that allows you
to install Ubuntu within Windows. When you install Ubuntu with Wubi it
does not create a separate partition, that is, it is all inside the
Windows NTFS file system.

It is very easy to uninstall because all you have to do is uninstall
the Wubi program. When you uninstall the Wubi program it also
uninstalls Ubuntu.

After you uninstall the Wubu program you can just reinstall it the same
way you did the first time. But when you reinstall it I suggest you
write down the password someplace where you will not lose it. :)

On my laptop, running debian (same problem with ubuntu and al)
the CAPS key is enabled I can't disable it, to do it , I go to the text
screen, (ctrl+alt+F1), to disable it, after that I come back to the
graphical interface.
What is the problem ??

It sounds like the problem is a BIOS setting. I say that because you
said it happens with Ubuntu and Debian, so the problem is not likely to
be in the kernel.

I would suggest getting some live CDs of other Linux distributions -
like Fedora, Knoppix, Mint, among others. Boot to the live CDs and see
if you still have the caps lock key problem. If you do, it is surely a
BIOS setting.

If it does not happen with other live CDs, then come back and maybe
someone can give you other suggestions.

Ubuntu is installed on the windows parition (C:\ubuntu iirc). The linux
filesystem is located in a container file that you can mount as loopback. I
guess the file command should identify the container file if you can't find it
(should be easy, it's the large one...)

Re: need help making shell script use two CPUs/cores

2011-01-13 Thread Stan Hoeppner
Bob Proulx put forth on 1/12/2011 2:48 PM:

That makes a lot of sense to me. And also when cpu time divides by
1/N where N is the number of processes then if you have more convert
processes running then effectively that task will get more total time
than will the other tasks. A little bit more here and a little bit
less there on the other tasks running. If you had two converts
running and one mail task then the mail task would get 1/3rd and the
two converts would get 2/3rds. As opposed to one convert and one mail
 task with 1/2 and 1/2.

The math isn't quite that simple as it's a 2-way SMP box, and Linux can't
perfectly schedule compute intensive and non compute intensive processes across
CPUs.

And context switching on a 550 MHz CPU with only 128K L2 cache is
going to be expensive when two compute intensive tasks are running.

I commend you on keeping that machine running. My main mail and web
server was, until the motherboard died very recently, a 400 MHz P2. I
was sad to see it go since it had been such a good performer for so
 many years.

I'll be _very_ sad when this one dies. The Abit BP6 is the only dual Celeron
motherboard ever made. It is legendary among over clockers due to the SMP
nature, the fact that Celerons were 1/3rd the price of PIIs at the time, and
that 333s were easily bumped to 500, and 366s easily bumped to 550--a 50%
increase in clock speed, usually achievable with stock heat sinks. No modern
chip will do that AFAIK. Thus, you got _more_ performance than an equivalent
dual PII workstation which topped out at 450 MHz, for less than 1/3rd the price.
This single board prompted Intel to disable the SMP circuitry on all future
Celerons. They'd left it enabled assuming no one would actually build such a
board. Abit did, and using the venerable Intel 440BX northbridge no less. :)

The BP6 also has a lot of features most other boards were lacking at that time
(1999), including jumperless BIOS configuration of CPU FSB and multiplier,
independent CPU voltage adjustment, a Winbond voltage, thermal, and fan speed
monitoring chip, a dual channel 4 port HighPoint UDMA/66 chip yielding a board
with 8 HDD capability with 4 at UDMA/66 which no other board offered, and an
SMBus header, which _NO_ other consumer board had at that time.

The BP6 was the most exotic high end board on the market for at least a couple
of years. It used a low end chip, but was faster than anything else at the
time. Too bad Abit is no more:

If you had a kernel panic or oops it should have been logged under /var/

You can report these errors to Debian BTS against the kernel package

I would contact the Debian mailing list admin

I just did that.

In the meantime, you can try to use another e-mail account (aka: another

As you see, the Gmane suggestion worked. Thanks again.

Grub2 reinstall on raid1 system.

2011-01-13 Thread Jack Schneider

I have a raid1 based W/S running Debian Squeeze uptodate. (was
until ~7 days ago) There are 4 drives, 2 of which had never been
used or formatted. I configured a new array using Disk Utility from a
live Ubuntu CD. That's where I screwed up... The end result was the
names of the arrays were changed on the working 2 drives. IE: /dev/md0
to /dev/126 and /dev/md1 became md127. Strangely the md2 array which I
setup on the added drives remains as /dev/md2. My root partition is/was
on /dev/md0. The result is that Grub2 fails to boot the / array. I have
tried three REINSTALLING GRUB procedures from Sysresccd online docs
and many others GNU.org, Ubuntu etc. The errors occur when I try to
mount the partition with the /boot directory. 'Complains about file
system type 'linux_raid_member' This machine has worked for 3 years
flawlessly.. Can anyone help with this? Or point me to a place or link
to get this fixed. Google doesn't help... I can't find a
article/posting where it ended successfully.
I have considered a full reinstall after Squeeze goes stable, since this
O/S is a crufty upgrade from sarge over time. But useless now..

TIA, Jack

Or you can also try with hp-plugin -i command.

Greetings,

Yup. My experience with several different multi-function devices from HP
in Debian is that it works best to run

# hp-setup -i ip address of multi-function device

This leads through a rather ugly CLI dialog. You just answer the
questions as you go along, and hp-setup configures the printer / fax /
scanner. Trying other approaches has sometimes netted me no results at
all, and sometimes it has given me the printer functionality, but not
the scanner functions. (SANE couldn't find the scanners until hp-setup
was run in interactive mode.)

Note that it is _important_ to delete any instance of the new printer /
fax from the CUPS localhost:631 location before attempting to run
hp-setup. After hp-setup has been run you should see both the printer
and the fax device (if any) in the CUPS printers page.

I hope this is helpful. I won't pretend to be an expert on this at all.
I just know that it has worked for me for every support HP MFD I've had
to install.

Best regards,
Gilbert

Yup. My experience with several different multi-function devices from
HP in Debian is that it works best to run

# hp-setup -i ip address of multi-function device

This leads through a rather ugly CLI dialog. You just answer the
questions as you go along, and hp-setup configures the printer / fax /
scanner. Trying other approaches has sometimes netted me no results at
all, and sometimes it has given me the printer functionality, but not
the scanner functions. (SANE couldn't find the scanners until hp-setup
was run in interactive mode.)

Note that it is _important_ to delete any instance of the new printer
/ fax from the CUPS localhost:631 location before attempting to run
hp-setup. After hp-setup has been run you should see both the printer
and the fax device (if any) in the CUPS printers page.

I hope this is helpful. I won't pretend to be an expert on this at
all. I just know that it has worked for me for every support HP MFD
I've had to install.

Keyboard freezing/repeating endlessly

2011-01-13 Thread Joe Riel
First post to Debian-Users; I hope this isn't inappropriate.

In December I upgraded Ubuntu 9.04 to 10.04. The keyboard and mouse
would then freeze after about five minutes of use. At that point I
installed Debian 6 (another machine uses Debian, but this computer had
come with Ubuntu 9.04 installed, so I used that for a year with no
problems). Alas, the same thing happened with Debian 6.

I have a PS/2 mouse and keyboard. I noticed that an added USB mouse
would continue to operate, so replaced the mouse with that. The
keyboard lockup continued, but decreased in frequency to about one a
day. That is still unacceptable, but temporarily manageable.

There are no indications of anything wrong in any of the logs.
The O/S is fully functional; I can log into it from another machine
and restart it that way.

When the lockup occurs, most of the time the keyboard continually
repeats a key, but not always the same key. I've seen the escape key,
the l, the k, and others. Pressing the same key (to get the driver
to see the release does not stop it). Other times it appears as
though no key is repeating (at least nothing happens when the mouse
is placed in a client).

I've searched google and found quite a few descriptions of what
appears similar behavior, with no solutions.

Any suggestions on what I can do? Replace the PS/2 keyboard with a
USB?

Something I recently noticed is that

$ setxkbmap -print

indicates that X thinks I'm using a pc105 keyboard when in fact I have
a pc104. I changed that, from the command line, with

$ setxkbmap -model pc104

That didn't improve anything (I still get lockups) nor did it change
the keyboard operation, as far as I can tell. However, I'm wondering
why X is using the wrong keyboard model. Maybe I entered the wrong
model during the installation. What sets the default value (there is
no xorg.conf file)?

Thanks for any suggestions.

 Maybe this helps:

 Q1.8.8: Does XEmacs support Unicode?
 http://www.xemacs.org/Documentation/21.5/html/xemacs-faq_2.html#SEC72

Yes, that helps; thanks Camaleón.

After a little searching, I concluded that the problem was unicode.
Then I discovered the Debian package uni2ascii, which helps -- but
still leaves me with some coding to convert with search-and-replace.

I have been installing the NOMULE version of XEmacs.

Re: Keyboard freezing/repeating endlessly

2011-01-13 Thread Joe Riel
A few details I omitted.

Once the freeze occurs, the only way I've found to release it is to
restart the machine. Restarting gdm3 (via a remote computer)
does not help, it brings up the login screen, but the keyboard
is not operational.

The problem also occurs in a virtual terminal (though I've
never been in a virtual terminal when it started).
To get to a virtual terminal with the keyboard dead/repeating,
I added a menu entry, accessible via the mouse,
that calls chvt, and modified the sudoers permission to allow
me to run that. In the virtual terminal I don't see the
key repeating, but the keyboard does nothing.

I normally run fvwm, but the problem also occurs in Gnome.

If there isn't a fix, are there any ideas on how to at least
clear the fault once it occurs (without restarting the machine)?
As mentioned, typing the key that is repeating does not help.

There are some HP printers models out there (mostly multifunction
devices) that besides the PPD file require additional blob code (closed
firmware or plugins, or whatever HP name it :-P) to properly run and
therefore CUPS cannot help here because it cannot download the required
code to get the device up and working ;-(

Best (and easiest) to setup are PostScript based printers, beyond that
the linux support for each printer brand and model varies a lot!

Are you sure the keyboard is good?

No, but it would be quite the coincidence that the
keyboard works fine for a year and fails within
five minutes of installing a new O/S. However,
to remove that possibility, I just now replaced
it with another PS/2 keyboard. I'll respond
when this locks up (though this old keyboard is
a pain to type on).

A useful suggestion, thanks.
