adulte (http://download.ooo4kids.org/fr/pre-version-ooolight-fr).

/usr/bin/gksudo pcmanfm --mount
'/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/volume_uuid_639E_C2E9'

# aptitude remove --purge $(dpkg-query -l | grep gnome- | grep ^i |
awk '{print $2}' | xargs)
# aptitude install gdm iceweasel

# dpkg-query -l | grep gnome- | grep ^i
ii gnome-keyring 2.22.3-2
ii libgnome-keyring0 2.22.3-2
ii libpam-gnome-keyring2.22.3-2

$ rm -fR ~/.*

# /etc/init.d/gdm restart
[login]

/usr/bin/sudo -H -S -p GNOME_SUDO_PASS -u root -- pcmanfm
--mount /org/freedesktop/Hal/device

Bonne journée et bon WE

corregidme si me equivoco.

rsa/keys/crl.pem:

revoke-full usuario

 http://www.x.org/wiki/radeonBuildHowTo#Kernel-basedModeSetting

I invite anyone to talk about the possibilities that may present

I would like any help the community feels it can offer, even if this is

This thread was started by Daniel, looking for a survey software in

to vote in your survey, completely unrelated to Debian.

Hijacking a thread is considered rude and it doesn't help your cause
because:

1. people will associate your cause with your rudeness
2. your invitation is buried in an unrelated thread in an unrelated
list.

IMVHO at the very least you should apologize to Daniel for making it
impossible for him to get a solution for his problem in this thread. He
will very likely have to start a new thread because of your actions.

If you really insist on sending mails on unrelated topics please start a
new thread with a relevant subject (including [OT]) so that people who
are not interested can ignore it easily. Beware though that it will very
likely be classified as spam and you might be reported to the

I am having a really weird problem with my RTL-8187L usb card, it is
used during the installation without any problem, but after that, it
stop working correctly, it stops connection and shows as if it were

I did a test with older kernels and it works without interruptions.
Does somebody know what is going on?

I am using Squeeze updated. Thanks

If you really insist on sending mails on unrelated topics please start a

Neither strace nor '-v' options (tried multiple to 4-5) provide any more

E: Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old
 ones used instead.

(I'd added the debian-ports archive a week or so back to try to install
a package since removed from the main archive).

Obvious short-term fix is to remove debian-ports from
/etc/apt/sources.list, but it would seem aptitude's error handling
 should also be improved.

Anything else I should note before filing a bug?

This has been reported already: http://bugs.debian.org/563887.
Unfortunately, aptitude's main (i.e. only) developer seems to have
 disappeared. :-(

Re: apache2 ftp password

2011-01-29 Thread Waqqas Dadabhoy
I think you should mention the name of the ftp server software you are
using. If you are using ftp to upload files to /var/www, I don't think
it will have anything to do with Apache (as far as security or upload
management is concerned).

If have not installed ftp server software yet, a quick search on
Debian Packages led me to proftpd. If you wish to use SSL to protect
the password, then you might want to look at ftpd-ssl.

Where in the apache configuration may this password be set?  And is
there any difference between the account/password for the apache

I have not encountered this question before, inasmuch as the web

If available-old does not help, you can:

    1. apt-cache dumpavail /var/lib/dpkg/available

dumpavail prints out an available list to stdout. This is
suitable for use with dpkg(1) and is used by the dselect(1)
       method.

    2. dpkg --update-avail /var/lib/dpkg/available

Update dpkg's and dselect's idea of which packages are available.
With action --merge-avail, old information is combined with

A simpler one-shot command to retrieve and update the available

 OR (alternatively)

    1. rm /var/lib/dpkg/available

It is moderately annoying as I use my Gmail account with POP3, set to
download and remove all messages from the server. I am also using the
Gmail SMTP server, and it appears that mail sent goes to the webmail's
Sent folder - and there is no option in the Gmail interface to disable
Google saving a copy when I deliver mail via SMTP.

Yes, and it is one of those documented features of Gmail:

***
http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=enanswer=82454#Bounce

Finally, if you're sending mail to a mailing list that you subscribe to,
those messages will only appear in 'Sent Mail.' This behavior also occurs
when sending to an email address that automatically forwards mail back to
your Gmail address. To test forwarding addresses or mailing lists, use a
different email address to send your message.

Another bypass to jump this feature and still keep using your Gmail

service for sending e-mails instead using Gmail's one. Some e-mail
servers will allow to relay the e-mail if you provide the right
credentials for authentication.

I don't think why. Most of the tera-large hard disks are now using that
4K alignment. Though the answer will vary if you are planning to share
the disk between old OSes that can have problems with the new aligment or
a raid based setup.

The ST32000641AS is sata3, but will be connected to an sata2
motherboard, so, can have any problem for this in Squeeze?

Sata600 should be fully compatible with sata300, just it will auto-slow
to the available speed the same it happens right now with sata300 disks
and sata150 ports.

One side note on Seagate hard disks. If you are planning to use both
disks in a server environment, you should look at their enterprise
products as they tend to have higher MTBF values and are labeled as
ready for 24x7 usage.

OTOH, I was told in many times that beyond the 500 GiB. barrier you can
see many of these non enterprise sata disks diying very quickly because
they are not very well suited/prepared for intensive tasks and it is
better going with sas or scsi devices.

Apache is not the program where to look, but the ftp server, as Waqqas

You can instruct ftp server to use system users or virtual users, with no
shell access at all. After that, you will have to disable anonymous

var/www/site1.com/) and play with local_umask and
file_open_mode (name of these values may vary, those are for Vsftpd)
parameters to get the desired behaviour.

To avoid sending text clear login information (username and password) you
can also add SSL/TLS (FTPS).

Basic(?) network help, please...

2011-01-29 Thread Mark Neidorff
Since I don't do this often, what may be very easy is confusing me.

I have switched from DSL (static IP) to cable internet (5 static IPs).  I have
a sort of network diagram (in a format that I hope can be easily
viewed) available at neidorff.com . Below the line there is a link that says
Network Diagram.   Some things are not quite right.

Under the DSL setup (old) the router provided me with a translated set of
addresses, so that I could use the 192.168.2.* range to connections to the
router.
With cable, I have 5 static IPs, but the cable modem only provides ports for
the static IPs.  I changed the configuration of the NIC that connects from
the server to the cable modem to match a static IP.

I can't get PCs on the local LAN (192.168.1.x) to connect to the net using the
cable provider's nameservers.  If I use the nameservers of my old provider
(which are still active for me, for now) they can connect to the net.  Why is
this?  How do I correct it?
Here is the routing table
$route -n
Kernel IP routing table
Destination     Gateway         Genmask         Flags Metric Ref    Use Iface
108.58.151.192  0.0.0.0         255.255.255.248 U     0      0        0 eth0

I think it is one year.

A longer term solution would be to use Trinity-KDE,continuing KDE3 development,

If you use the KDE3 DE, are happy with it, don't want to change, this works

well in Squeeze, and Lenny.

Thanks, Wayne. That's in the manpage. I am not backing up, I want to

gateways with no routing capabilities and act in the same way like the
old dial-up serial modems: they connect your machine (the one to which is

maybe you don't want all your machines are also acting in that way, like

So, dependending on what you have in mind, you may also need to have a
router with nat capabilities that:

1/ Hide your internal network machines (so you can use 192.168.0.x
addresses) and keep them out of the Internet.

2/ Provide addictional DHCP/DNS functionalities, in the event the cable-

During the 'net-install' when the choose
mirror screen appears you need to
scroll to the top of the list, choose manual
entry or some such, point it
at a local url, proxy etc.

I tried that, entering 192.168.0.200 (the LAN address of my approx
server) as the Debian archive mirror hostname

That's right.

and
/var/cache/approx/debian as the Debian archive mirror directory.

That's wrong. You probably just want /debian or whatever the name of
the remote repository mapping you've set up on that approx server.

Inspecting the installation log with F4, I saw the following error
message:

   choose-mirror[30711]: DEBUG: command: wget -q
   http://192.168.0.200/var/cache/approx/debian/dists/squeeze/Release
   -0 - | grep -E `^(Suite|Codename:`

choose-mirror[30711]: WARNING **: mirror does not support the
   specified release (squeeze)

As you can see from this error message, the URL that apt will us is
something like http://$DEBIAN_MIRROR_HOST/$DEBIAN_MIRROR_DIR

So, if you have a live system that has a line like:
deb http://192.168.0.200/debian squeeze main
in its sources.list, then for a new install you'll answer the first
question with:
192.168.0.200
and the second question with:
debian

I think it is one year.

Depends on what you mean by support. From what I understand, Lenny will
stop receiving normal point releases to fix RC-bugs after Squeeze is
released. Security updates will continue to be provided for Lenny via the
security archive until support for Lenny completely ends. There is usually
at least one point release is this transitional support period that takes
the updates from the security archive and includes them in the master
archive.

Lenny will be entirely unsupported either 1 year after the Squeeze release
or immediately after the Wheezy release, whichever comes first.

You can use (internal) rewrite rules to make one URL effectively be treated
as another. For example, this is used to make
http://wiki.freegeekarkansas.org/fgar be treated as
http://wiki.freegeekarkansas.org/mediawiki/index.php

However if you rewrite a request for http://www.example.com/ into
http://www.example.com/users/login you can't at the same time also rewrite
http://www.example.com/ to http://www.example.com/some/other/object.

Does you mirror have 'Testing' or 'Squeeze? or missing symlink, if
 applicable.

The directories are:

   /var/cache/approx/debian/dists/squeeze/...
   /var/cache/approx/debian/dists/lenny/...

the structure after /approx having been added by approx.

What is the proper symlink, and where would I add it?

Help with Squeeze on Acer Aspire D250

2011-01-29 Thread david wildgoose
Hey everyone,

I've created a USB installer stick and I am trying to install squeeze
on my Acer Aspire D250.

The system boots off the USB stick and brings me to the Installer boot
menu, but the internal speaker beeps and the system freezes.

Below is how I'm setting up the USB install stick:

Downloaded the following files
http://ftp.ca.debian.org/debian/dists/squeeze/main/installer-i386/20110106/images/hd-media/boot.img.gz
http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/squeeze_di_rc2/i386/iso-cd/debian-squeeze-di-rc2-i386-netinst.iso

Extracted boot.img.gz using the following command: gzip -dc
boot.img.gz /dev/disk1

Copied the iso image to the USB stick.

Any ideas why the installer is freezing?

Re: How to debug: INIT: PANIC: segmentation violation at 0xb776c417! sleeping for 30 seconds.

2011-01-29 Thread Arturo R.
I hate to bump my own message, but I'm making some progress and I'm
wondering if anyone can help me further debug.

My initial message:

 Hi all.

Per the title, I'd love to get your input on how to debug/fix this
particular issue. A description of my setup:

 Asus UL30A-X5 Laptop
 1.3GHz Intel SU7300 Core 2 Duo
 4GB of DDR3 RAM
 500GB SATA
 Intel GMA 4500MHD

Running Debian sid on a coLinux 0.7.8 (uname -a: Linux colinux
 2.6.33.5-co-0.7.8 #1 PREEMPT Wed Sep 1 22:49:51 UTC 2010 i686
GNU/Linux) inside of Windows XP Pro SP3. The error is reproducible
100% of the time. When the machine goes into standby, either
automatically or manually, init (or something else? see below),
crashes and takes the system down with it.

I've read that gdb can't attach to init by design, so I tried strace.
 Output is attached as strace.log

Now, since I assumed the problem was with init, I switched to upstart,
but that's not working either. See upstart.log, attached.

I've also ruled out coLinux (and with it, its kernel) by trying one of
the filesystem images they provide. When using that, there is no
problem bringing the machine in and out of standby repeatedly.

Does anyone have any idea of how I could further narrow down where the
problem lies, or point me in the direction of the proper mailing list
 to direct my question?

My apologies if I've left out any important detail. Please let me know
 if you have any questions.

I've since followed the advise of a poster to colinux-users and built
init and all the libraries it depends on with debugging symbols. I'm
able to get a backtrace of the crash (see gdb.log, attached), but I
still don't know how to pinpoint why the system crashes.

I've commented out the apparent offending function in init.c and the
error is indeed suppressed, but the system still hangs (no core
dumped).

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Testing a network card

2011-01-29 Thread logb
Hello,

Is there anyone know how to test PPS (packet per second) of a nic?
I tried to googled it, only found how to test the bandwidth using
iperf or netperf. None found for PPS.

Any hint are welcome.

TIA.

Error for wireless request Set Mode (8B06)

2011-01-29 Thread vr

I'm playing with a laptop that has an Atheros AR2413 based (badged as
Dynex DG-WGNBC) pcmcia card and a wired NIC using Debian Unstable,
current as of a few hours ago. I'd like to make an access point.

lspci | grep -i atheros
06:00.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications Inc. AR2413
802.11bg NIC (rev 01)

This page says the wireless card should be using the ath5k driver.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_open_source_wireless_drivers

and also says master mode is supported in that driver.

I've confirmed ath5k is loading with lsmod | grep -i ath
ath5k 104074 0
mac80211 123574 1 ath5k
ath 6014 1 ath5k
cfg80211 87661 3 ath5k,mac80211,ath
led_class 1757 1 ath5k

I've defined wlan0 in /etc/network/interfaces as:
auto wlan0
iface wlan0 inet static
 address 192.168.1.2
 netmask 255.255.255.0
 network 192.168.1.0
 broadcast 192.168.1.255
 wileless-channel 7
 wireless-essid wifitest
 wireless-key1 s:86753
 wireless-mode master

but at ifup wlan0 this error occurs:
Error for wireless request Set Mode (8B06) : Set failed on device
wlan0 ; Invalid argument.

How can I make that card the master it needs to be?
