How can this be corrected please.

You should contact debian-mirr...@lists.debian.org to let them know - if

Yes, until you remove the module, the device is still in use.
What model wifi card is it and what module does it use?
What does "modinfo 'modulename'" say?

*Don't stress - this is easily, and simply, fixed*

kde-desktop is a small part of the KDE Desktop Environment.

Please post:-

the output of:-

By chance are you talking about the debian menus? I had a 'problem'
with LXDE when I first installed where the menu contained a bunch of
random programs that don't need their own menu entry or duplicates all
shoved into the other category. Purging menu and menu-xdg fixed the
'problem' for me.

I don't want to provoke anyone or start a flame war, but why does the
debian menu system still exist? It had it's place in the past, but all
modern DEs and panel/menu systems support the FD.o XDG application
standards. Maybe it's a little strong to say it should be dropped (I
can see uses in some special cases), but why is it enabled by default?

I understand the official timetable - I moved to Squeeze (for the most
part) earlier this year so we would have time to adapt, before official
support ended.

Given Trinity, and the amount of people reluctant to embrace KDE4, I
still wouldn't be surprised if (unofficial) support is extended. I note
that there are vendors that provide (partial) support for Sarge (and
even early releases), as they use it for their products (embedded
firewall devices etc).
It's not something I'd bank on, nor is it likely to be production grade
support.

Disabling wifi to save battery

2011-10-08 Thread Daniel Dalton
Hi,

I've recently purchased a Dell vostro 3350 laptop, and to save battery,
I was planning to disable wifi, when it wasn't required. On my old
laptop I could use the rfkill package like so:
rfkill block wifi

But it seems to have no effect on my Dell. The wifi hot key on the
laptop does not seem to work either (from the console). Does anyone have
any other ideas? If I do ifdown eth1 to bring down wifi, is it likely
the wifi will still be consuming significant battery?

Thanks for any help,
Dan

That's good - the command requires other parameters. But that message
indicates that it would work (as you demonstrate further down)

After reboot (or restarting saned) you'd probably find the epson2
parameter would fail.

Yes. Sorry - I should have suggested "# /etc/init.d/saned restart"

Glad to hear you have it working - it's a nice scanner.

OSS Research Help Needed Please - drawing for tablet computer ($500.00 gift card) for participation.

2011-10-08 Thread Lila Holt
Hello!

We are asking you for some help from the Open Source communities.

As researchers at the University of Tennessee we are interested in
discovering more about learning and interactions of members of the open
source forums. This research is conducted through the University of
Tennessee and is in no way associated with any forum organization. To
further our research we would like input from forum members. The responses
are very important to us so we can better understand what tools help forum
members learn and have a productive experience in participation.

There are two ways you can help:

1. Take a survey about the tools you use in the forum.

We are requesting approximately 15 minutes of your time to participate in
our survey.
Survey link: http://survey.utk.edu/mrIWeb/mrIWeb.dll?I.Project=FORUMLEARN

*As a thank you, upon exiting the survey you will be given an opportunity to
submit information to be entered in a drawing for a tablet computer ($500.00
Gift Card).*

2. Have a one on one interview talking about the forums, how you learn,
and tools used. *As a thank you for your interview you will be sent a
$25.00 gift card. * Email lh...@utk.edu for more information.

You may do either or both of the above. Please be assured that your answers
will be confidential. No individual’s answers will ever be identified in
any report. Should you have any questions about the project or our interest
in using the results, we encourage you to contact Lila Holt, at
lh...@utk.edu) or Vandana Singh at vand...@utk.edu.

Contact information you provide for the drawing is completely separate from
your survey answers and there will be no way to identify participants in the
actual survey responses. Nor will contact information be used for any other
purpose. The odds of being selected will depend on the number of respondents
to this survey.

I guess you mean the kde-desktop item... but once found I'm not seeing
what else to do. Its really a confusing interface. I keep getting
deeper into trouble but no clue what its doing. I think I may have to
use some other means. Ncurses aptitude is a mine field and seems only
to offer version 3.5 of kde.

I don't think it's a matter of politeness, and I doubt that Tony is
offended, but its usage in Britain is usually by, how can I put this,
lazy people who can't be bothered to speak clearly, who might say 'fink'
rather than 'think', because the 'th' sound is slightly harder to make.
'Dunno' is the vaguely sullen one-word answer that a small boy might
give when asked 'who broke the window?', while looking down and kicking
the ground.

In print, they might splatter their text with 'ur' for 'your', and '4'
and 'm8', the sort of abbreviations we see in Windows forums. A bit
more than just 'casual', but certainly not offensive.

We all build up a sort of picture of each other, and all we have to go
on is the style of writing: your English (and abbreviations) are
generally of a much higher standard, and if someone were speaking to me
face-to-face in your usual writing style, and dropped in 'dunno', it
would sound strange. A bit like the Queen saying it in her Christmas
message.

But it's no big deal, you're not being rude to anyone.

Since you are apparently unable to discern on your own what is and is
not on topic, do you require someone to write a detailed list of
everything possibly discussed on this planet, with a little star next to
each that is on topic?

how to gather info for reporting problem

2011-10-08 Thread Harry Putnam
Attempted to install a full kde setup today but landed in the soup
once it was done.

I just get a black screen with a terminal emulator running, no menus
are available with mouse clicks or anywhere on the screen in terms of
an icon. Just the terminal. Any apps I open are slapped up into the
top left corner where the title bar becomes inaccessible. If I open
anything else it covers the previous app, then I have two with the one
under inaccessible. Can't even be raised back to top.

So it clear enough something or things are boogered up.

I want to report what has happened and maybe get a
leg up on fixing things back up.

How can I determine what pkgs were installed and which removed during
the kde install?

I was prompted a few times about uninstalling and installing
things. And I remember one prompt that asked me if it was ok to leave
a list of dependencies unmet.

I just don't know debian well enough yet to competently find that kind
of info and summarize for a discussion here.

There must be common ways of finding that kind of info.

It's a pity that's not the case, as I sometimes have a question
regarding firewalls, etc and take it to the firewall list, yet the
number of questions regarding firewalls I have seen on 'debian-user'
probably far out-number those on 'firewall'.

This probably means that the answer to a searcher's question exists,
but they have been looking where the answer isn't.

d-community-offto...@lists.alioth.debian.org

The official Debian archive of support information would be left cleaner.
Filtering into separate or joint mailboxes gives sharper organization than
depending on OT in the header. The varying needs for social environment
would be satisfied along with the need for a positive signal to noise ratio.

Actually I am not one of " true believers in off topic posting",
neither have I "so vigorously defended" it.

Out of the increased volume over the last several weeks, I have had a
great deal of enjoyment and- dare I say it on a apparently would be
totally serious, and solely, and only to the point, one true Debian
list- I have learned a great deal whilst so doing.

Yes, the OT topic wandered: I enjoyed the discussion on English and
it's variations, found the values of units we use so casually
informative, and the discussion of the costs/benefits of AC v. DC
electrical distribution most educational.

What's not to like?

If I do not like a thread, or have no interest in it, I merely delete
it at the same time I delete other lists and other threads. It takes
little or no extra time, and I would be very much surprised that those
who cavil at such threads read all and each message on each "on topic"
thread.

So when they delete the "on topic" messages in which they have no
interest, would it take them much more time to delete the "off topic"
messages at the same time.

Or does it take less time to compose and post a message complaining about them.

As for the merely silly latter suggestion, well, it surely does not
deserve the dignity of a reply.

Terence

Looks like the mirror has a problem as it serves a Release file with an
entry like: Valid-Until: Sat, 08 Oct 2011 02:24:48 UTC

not done already. For time being you could flip to another mirror.

This means the mirror in question did not update for quite some time.

To be more specific: The Release-File has a 'Valid-Until'-field. If
the date in this field is expired, you get the above warning.

Consider using another mirror or try again later to see if the mirror
has catched up again.

I didn't know using "dunno" was incorrect, I mean, when using a casual
language like the one it happens on a mailing list such this :-?

When I'm not sure about a word (which happens more times than I'd like),
I query several sources, like "Google translate" or the Oxford dictionary
and in both appears as a proper/valid term:

http://translate.google.com/#en|es|I%20dunno

But I'm always willing to learn, so may I ask why you find its usage
ofensive or not appropiate? I'm curious.

This is not my experience, and likely the same for others. Most off
topic noise is injected into legitimate threads as "conversation drift".
Most off topic content isn't contained within posts that begin with an
[OT] tag because most people aren't that considerate of others. I'm not
talking about this list specifically, but all lists.

For instance, you search and Google hits on the first post in a relevant
thread. You read the first few posts and don't have the answer yet.
Then the next 20 posts contain mostly off topic drift peppered with some
on topic information. Finally toward the last few posts you might find
the actual answer you're looking for as the thread comes back on topic.

Maybe my experience here is different than others because I'm usually
searching for things that are very new or simply obscure, and again, not
necessarily specific to Debian.

If you all are true believers in off topic posting, as you have so
vigorously defended, why don't we _all_ commit ourselves to making one
OT post per day and see where that leads?

Soshould I fdisk the drive, delete what appears to fdisk to be an NTFS
partition, create an ext4 and reformat it? (I'm guessing that this is why I'm
getting errors from my backup program)

Did you use fdisk (or similar) to change the partition type before
reformatting? I'm guessing not.

The partition type values that fdisk sees are the one set by fdisk or
another partitioning tool. The actual filesystem details depend on what
you formatted it as. The two don't have to agree, but it's a good idea
to keep them in sync.

Use fdisk and change the partition type. No need to delete/recreate the
partition, or reformat it.

You don't say what errors you are getting from your backup program.
Could you enlighten us please? Give examples of the errors and the name
of the program you are using.

Weird, indeed.

What does gparted/cfdisk say? Just to have another opinion ;-)

"fdisk" (as its own man page states) is not the recommended tool for
making partitions, but parted or cfdisk, I would try with any of those.

I did intend to include that but forgot it in the end.

http://pkg-kde.alioth.debian.org/kde3.html

Note is says but kde3 but its really up to 4.4 on the page cited.

I found better advice here:
http://pkg-kde.alioth.debian.org/kde4.html

But so far having a poor experience with KDE. When I get logged in
there are no menus/panels or anything other than a black screen.

I got an xterm running because I had some key combos using xbindkeys.

Anything I start slams up into the top right corner. The title bar is
just out of reach so it cannot be moved. If I open something else,
then it slams into the right corner.

When I did aptitude install kde-full there were dozens of pkgs
installed and maybe 12-20 removed. Installs came to over 100 and yet
with all that muck installed KDE will not start and run normally.

So I'm back in fluxbox wondering what to do about it all. I didn't
really want to tackle a whole lot of huffing and puffing. Someone
told me you could zoom into your screen and there by end up with a
large pannable space to work in.

So far its just a silly non-working mess. I'm now wondering how to
get rid of all the useless junk that got installed.

None of it will be usable on a desktop that piles everything in the top
left corner and renders it non-movable... means you can only see one
app at a time

Yes. One needs to distinguish the kernel version from the package
version. When running the stable release (Squeeze right now), the
kernel version will normally not change. But the package version
will change with an update. To see the package version, enter the
command

   dpkg-query -l linux-image-2.6.32-5-amd64|grep ii

This will display the package version, which right now is
2.6.32-35squeeze2. This changes with each update.
>
> linux-headers are kernel updates right?

No. linux-headers-* packages are not kernel image packages, they
are kernel headers packages. Kernel headers packages are a portion
of the kernel source code. They are data declarations needed to
compile out-of-kernel-source-tree kernel module source packages
when the kernel source code is not installed.

AFAICT, the default desktop pattern is US English, you will only need the
corresponding "kde-l10n-XX" language packages to get additional

So I just tested it - instead of taking Ralfs assumption unproved -, it
may use Dolphins file/directory view, but you can *still* create as many of
them as you like, not only two side by side as in Dolphin.

So I don´t see the point there. Switch Konqueror to file management as
Scott said and it seems to work (almost) like in good old times. There
might be some integration glitches here and there, but should you observe
some best would be to file a bug report with bugs.kde.org if not already

Re: Re: HD Data Recovery

2011-10-08 Thread Ad L.
Silently seconded. But I guess it's human nature to simply not listen
until it turns out that was a wrong choice. And plenty never learn
afterwards either.

Anyway, on topic:

Most tools allow you to tell the Linux kernel the amount of sectors,
heads and cylinders the disk has. It should simply be on the label,
and some additional information, such as the use of LBA48, which is
the case for most newer disks.

If you're too lazy to find a proper backup program etc., put down some
more money and buy the new harddisk... twice!
Attach them on 2 separate channels (would be appropriate in the case
of IDE disks) and you'll have an increased reading speed in the
meanwhile.
Then use Linux' software RAID capabilities to use partitions on both
disks as a RAID1 array. You may have to use expert install for that.
If one disk fail in the future, you still have the other one. Using
mdadm you can replace the failed one with a new device.
Possible partition setup (equal on both disks):
Primary #1: Normal Partition, e.g. ext3, mounted as /boot (just feels
safe in case of older boot managers that don't support sRAID)
Primary #2: Linux swap (Note: swap on both disks means a swap area of
DOUBLE the size of this partition, so 512MB-1GB should be great)
Primary #3: The rest of the space, mounted as / (will be /dev/md0)
-OR- ~20-60GBytes
Primary #4: None -OR- the rest of the space, mounted as /home (will be
/dev/md1), so you can re-install the OS without touching your own
files

Never mind I was on the kde 4.4 page I found out about kde 4.6 where
I'm told to install kde-full if I want it all, and goes and tells how
to start small and build up too.

Install kde-desktop on existing debian install

2011-10-08 Thread Harry Putnam
Looking at what is listed like this in google:
How to install KDE on Debian - The Debian KDE maintainers website

I find this apparently out of date information:

install KDE on your existing Debian system

If you already have Debian Lenny installed and you want a complete KDE
desktop, install the "kde-desktop" task:

aptitude install kde-desktop

But of course there some 62 pkgs with that in there name. Further
none of them appear to be English or en, so how does an English
speaker install a kde-desktop?

Twice? :-)

I saw no bug for Debian.

The driver seems to be available for sid so I guess soon will reach

Then go ahead and try to "fool" the installer: if it compiles and works,
fine; if it fails, you have nothing lose as you can always return back
to nouveau ;-)

Is not a fix "per se" but an adaptation to the new kernel.

Why is this "Very Important"?

Try starting it (X + KDE) from a shell and see what happens.
Does it work with a new dummy user?
Are you using an xorg.conf file?

I am so ashamed! It is just because on my work I build many used computers

Well, to my problem: The legacy driver cannot be build, as it mourns the wrong

I took a look in the "Makefile", and suppose, this is the problem:
# Check for kernel versions that we don't support.

BELOW26 := $(shell if [ $(VERSION) -lt 2 -o $(PATCHLEVEL) -lt 6 ]; then \
 echo y; fi)

ifeq ($(BELOW26),y)
$(error Only 2.6.x and later kernels are supported \
 ($(VERSION).$(PATCHLEVEL).$(SUBLEVEL)))
endif

Maybe I could change this for fast testing? Or just commet this check out?
What do you think?

I think you are right. This test looks wrong to me for a 3.x kernel.
Just comment it out for now.

It's failing because the PATCHLEVEL is 0 on 3.0. It should really be
checking "if [ $(VERSION) -lt 2 -o ( $(VERSION) = 2 -a $(PATCHLEVEL)
-lt 6 ) ]", although I'm unsure of the exact syntax.

Hi Mark,

in synaptics you can look into the history. Look at File > History.

Then choose the correct date. There you can see, which packages are updated. I
suggest, to write down, which packages you want to downgrade, with version
etc. and then use aptitude to downgrade manually.

A good idea for the future is, to save the installed package list from time to
time in a file. When you have a crash,m you can reread this file and revert
easily back. Synaptic is offering this option.

Also you may try reverting back to a state using synaptic instead of aptitude,
but I do not know, if this is working.

Hope this helps.

Good luck!

Hans

[VERY IMPORTANT] How to undo updates....

2011-10-08 Thread mark
Hi,

This morning synaptic reported some 32 packages to update. So I updated
the packages. After the update I can no longer login (KDE) as myself. I
can login as myself in a terminal login. I can also login as root under
KDE (I understand the dangers).

Now I would like to undo the changes that were made by synaptic so that I
can get back to a fully usable system. How do I find the changed packages
and undo the changes?

Thanks,

Mark

Yes, likely! The file I read belonges to the package "nvidia-kernel-source",
you find it in /usr/share/doc/nvidia-kernel-source.

Please allow me to add the related content:

nvidia-graphics-drivers (177.80-1) unstable; urgency=low

DO NOT INSTALL THIS RELEASE!!! Use the nvidia-glx-legacy-173xx,
  nvidia-glx-legacy-173xx-dev, nvidia-kernel-legacy-173xx-source packages
  instead.

And additionally my output of lspci:

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation NV36.1 [GeForce FX 5700

It is NV36.1, and (moah, shame on me!!!) , I just see, it is not GF7300, but

Can you upload the full Xorg log somewhere? (i.e., www.pastebin.com)

Also, consider in opening a bug report for this.

These commands respond "output is not a file, exiting"

To add to the confusion xcanimage now works from a command line, no more
segfault. I have changed nothing since installing iscan. My best guess
is that commenting out epson in /etc/sane.d/dll.conf may have solved the
problem but only took effect after the system was rebooted.

DKMS is just building and installing the modulel. However, I also tried the

Nouveau is unloaded. Additionally it is blacklisted.

I don't think so... Debian nvidia driver is based on nvidia upstream
driver so they have to share the same level support for the listed cards.

Yes, I already replied to that thread. But I have no previous experience

I can't see any options for it in the pulldown menus, is it an add on ?
the version I'm using is o.75.3.

Well, I just do niot find it at the moment, but the drivers from Nvidia are
supporting graphic chips only at 8000 series or newer. This is now for more
than a year.

I do not believe, this has changed for now, thisis the reason, why I still use
the legacy drivers (what debian is suggesting).

Maybe I missed a recent change and those old chips are supported by the latest
driver again?

I've made two mistakes below:-
1. the command should have been:-
# apt-get --no-install-recommends install

2. I'd mistakenly assumed (and made an ass of you and me) that you were
running Debian you'll need to do:-
$ apt-cache search multimedia-amd64 | grep linux-image
to choose the appropriate image to install.

For your location it'd be:-
deb http://www.mirrorservice.org/sites/64studio.com/apt/ 64studio main
(for /etc/apt/sources.list)

http://apt.64studio.com/
(for a web browser)

If you're just pulling the kernel from 64studio and the rest from Debian
you could run into problems - possibly best to pull all from one or the
other. 64studio != Debian (it's just built from it).

You may find the audio user lists useful, also:-

have) in order we can use the nvidia driver? Sorry but that does not make
any sense to me. I'm afraid a full explanation is required :-)

Hello all,

I am using debian/testing on my desktop pc. This computer is using a Nvidia
card 7300 GT ultra. As this is an older card, I got into a little problems. My
problems:

1. I want to use 3d-accceleration, so I need to use the proprietrary driver
from Nvidia.

2. This card is not supported by the newest driver, but with nvidia-kernel-
legacy-173xx and nvidia-glx-173xx.

3. I am using kernel 3.0, but the above modules cannot be built, as it says
"wrong kernel version, only 2.6 is supported".

4. The alternative"nv" cannot be used, due to xserver-xorg and xserver-xorg-
core version incompabilities.

5. At the moment I have to use "nouveau" driver, but acceleration is not
really fast.

This is the situation. So, maybe you have an idea. Possibilities:

1. Maybe change "nvidia-kernel-legacy-173xx" so it can be build with the
latest kernel. If the build is NOT WANTED by the developers, please point me
to. Otherwise it is a bug and should be fixed.

2. In case the developers decided to use the "nouveau" driver instead of "nv"
or the legacy driver ONLY for OLDER Nvidia cards, please tell me. Otherwise it
is a bug, and should be fixed.

3. If the developers decided, NOT to use kernel 3.X.X for older computers,
please tell me.

Information: At the moment I MUST use the nouveau driver, when I want to use
kernel 3.0, with kernel 2.6.39, the nvidia drivers are building fine.

Thank you very much for reading this and for your help!

Yes, that's what happened with that 3.0.0 nomenclature. You may not want
to hear this but the fastest solution is a new card.

If you have an Internet connection and the proper repositories set, there
is no need to manually download that files, system updaters (apt-get,
aptitude, synaptic...) will handle it for you.

I would recommend you to subscribe to the "announce" mailing list to get

Same here - as in, if I enable view hidden files, it only displays
hidden files in that particular directory (see further down about
applying view changes to all directories), but, regardless (as you've
pointed out) changing view from, eg. details to icon, removes show
hidden files (unless saved to profile *and* view changes settings
applied to all directories). If any of that made sense

I'll add it to my wish lists. I post them to the developers - sometimes
they listen, some times I just patch it myself. In this case I'm not
sure how hard it is. (kpart is pretty simple and well documented)

Apply changes to view to all directories, not just the current
directories. Default is to apply changes to current directory only.

Sorry - I was going from memory - should be:-
Konqueror toolbar => Settings => Configure Konqueror... => (in the
left-hand pane under File Management) General => (in the right-hand
pane) select "Use Common View properties for all folders".

The Debian packaging is a whole lot better than that in it's derivatives
(and some of the other distros). But documentation, even on kde.org,
leaves a lot to be desired. I find the debian-kde list invaluable.

The whole development is less integrated than KDE3. There are other
factors that are not productive to go into here.

Maybe that's another problem you should investigate further (I would
start by looking at Xorg logs) but the driver version does support you
card, there is no need to keep the legacy branch nor older drivers :-)

Nope, that cannot be possible. Can you point me to some oficial document?
I'm interested in this because I also have a 7600GS card and wouldn't
like to have any problem in the upcoming wheezy.

Hi Camaleon,

well, I tried the latest driver, and I read, it should support GF6000 and
higher. But the kernel-module will not load. It is still telling "no device".

Like it was in the past, when 7000 cards were officially not supported.

Thus I used the legacy drivers.

If you receive no bug number it could be because the report was not
properly sent. Did you get any error at any stage of the process? Did you
confirm the existance of the report by manually browsing BTS?

I'd like to see a web based interface for reporting bugs in Debian, while
I find reporting by e-mail a very nice (must have) option, bugzilla-alike
based interfaces are also very easy to deal with (for the reporter) and
plenty of nice features.

Isn't it supported by 285.0509 (October 5, 2011):-

Perhaps try that.

Have you tried editing the build script?

I know there's an xorg incompatability with the legacy driver (hence my
query above - as I suspect you don't need the legacy driver for your card).

People are getting nvidia proprietary drivers to build with linux-kernel-3.0

Well, I meant if both LibreOffice Writer applications (the one from
Squeeze and the one from Wheezy) show the same behaviour. That is, open
LO from Squeeze and write a bunch of text and then open LO from wheezy
and write the same (keeping font face and size also the same, of course)
and then compare them.

Can you see any difference or the texts look the same?

What I am trying to determine with this test is if the font problem is
system wide or just affects to the console.

Mmm, lowriter text renders different (less wider) than text on xnotes and
terminal while paragraphs on xnotes and terminal look like the same.

Anyway, can you try to set the font at 10 pt or higher value? I also see
a slightly differece when font is set at 8 pt. Maybe the problem is

In fact there are two open bugs (merged):

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=636776
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=636844

But it seems the change which leads in having wider fonts was done on
purpose so is still unclear what it has to be done with that commit.

If I were you, I would add my self to that bug (636844) and explain your
situation. The more people complains about the change, the better to get

card 7300 GT ultra.

Best regards

Hans

Re: When was Debian installed

2011-10-08 Thread Ad L.
My simplest bet would be this one:
head /var/log/dpkg.log

One of the very first lines would read:
[date] [time] install base-files [initialVersion]

I'm not sure if the log ever gets replaced or moved, but my system says that.
Tool used: head (showing the first lines of a file)
Related tool: tail (showing the last/latest lines of a file)

:-)

Although a subject of linux-kernel-3.0 and alsa might help (many of us
only download headers).

Of no particular relevance - what kernel is that? (did you build it
yourself?).

Unless you had apt-get autoclean enabled, the packages should be still
sitting in /var/cache/apt/archives.

Do you mean "apt-get install something" without pulling in "recommended"??

What is your system architecture?
$ uname -r
will probably tell me what you need.

Is this a dedicated audio production machine?
Are you running rtirq etc?
http://www.rncbc.org/drupal/node/333
(thanks RM).

# apt-get --no-install-recommends
linux-image-3.0.0-1-whatever_your_architecture

I'd suggest you run this first:-
# apt-get -s --no-install-recommends
linux-image-3.0.0-1-whatever_your_architecture >
/root/kernel-3.0.0.0-1_upgrade

That will give you a list of changes for future reference.

Ralf Mardorf will surely have an opinion but he won't be back online
until later this today (at earliest).

Cheers

Why? I don't. :-)

In any case, you offered a wee bit more info that I did.

That seems to be a recurrent question :-)

I remember a similar thread a year ago in this same list:

How To determine the date the system & packages were installed.
