The transition from postgresql 8.4 to postgresql 9.1 almost worked over here except for a little matter of the linux kernel's shm value. This broke when I was involved with pg_upgradecluster and afterwards 9.1 wouldn't start. End result, all of postgresql has been removed from this machine. Fortunately mysql either has no shm variable size dependency or is a little better at handling it or a little more reasonable in its requirements. Microsoft: It never looses its suction. Although I run Debian on my server it does not pick up email. Debian I use as a server nothing else, data only. Fine, but can you receive from there? There are text based MUA you can use to check this (e.g., Mutt). You mean you are not running Debian from the computer you can't fetch the e-mails? If so, what's your OS? I run 64 bit PCLinuxOS 2012.06 Test 5, but since that has now switched to kmail2 I am using the 32 bit 2012.02 version of PCLinuxOS to pick up mail. Okay. Consider also posting at the PCLinuxOS mailing lists or forums. It does appear that kmail2 is giving some problems Yes, I've read about that, but at least it should be able to send and receive, that's basic :-) And you don't receive any message, warning or error from Kmail when sending/downloading? That's weird... I have now tried Fedora 17 and that has the same problem. Okay, but what was the e-mail client you configured in fedora? Although I think I have set up kmail2 correctly as I would in kmail1. It cannot send or receive emails. We know that :-), but you should get an error or something when you press the send and receive button How about a different MUA? To discard a problem with the server settings. In Fedora 17 it gave me an option to use sendmail as the transport, but that did not do anything either. What!? Sir, I'm starting to think you should detail one by one the steps you have followed to configure your e-mail client. You can be doing something wrong here. I was wondering if anyone out in the great blue younder can point me in the right direction for solveing his problem. Does anyone else, have kmail2 running? I guess many :-) Not enough data, I'm afraid. I'd run the above tests first. I just need some pointers. I already told you some but you have to try them and send the results of your tests. CD/DVD diagnostic tools needed
I'm having various random problems installing from Live CD's. The problems are weird, inconsistent, and intermittent. The first thing is to determine whether or not I have faulty hardware, be it the target box or the box that burns the CD. I've already run memtest86 and Seagate disk diagnostics demonstrating that problems from that area is unlikely. I need two diagnostics: 1. verify what's on the CD matches the ISO from which it was generated. [already have verified that the downloaded MD5SUM matches repository] 2. verify target system reads CD/DVD correctly. For the first I require both Linux and Windows versions. The second should probably be a Live CD itself. Any ideas? TIA -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-user-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Re: [1/2 OT] How to find the desktop near me?
Hi, The desktop installed the Sid (seems not so relevant here.) Now the monitor/screen not work; other things are totally fine. I used to login desktop first and then ssh from laptop, Now since not be able to log in, how can I find its ip ? so I can connect from laptop. or shall I just find other monitor and connect? If it's on the same subnet as your laptop, you may be able to find it via the laptop's ARP cache -- this is the mechanism the kernel uses to map controller MAC addresses to IP addresses. Alternatively, if it's gotten a DHCP assignment from your home router, you can probably go in to the router's set-up interface, and find the table of DHCP assignments it has handed out, and see if there's one you don't recognize. If all that fails, if it's a small address space (like 192.168.1.*), it s a simple matter to just ping every address in the space and see if there's a live one you didn't know about. If the machine doesn't answer ping requests, a more complicated way would be to run a port-scanner from the laptop, and see what it finds. -- A. -- Andrew Reid / rei...@bellatlantic.net -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-user-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. IMO, AHCI is the better sata driver you can use and it comes from the kernel itself. That said, a quick Google search for the error message returns lots of hits, it seems that you are not alone...
