bien sur ça dépend des autres fichiers, mais on peut utiliser le * dans
le nom de fichier pour faire le mv,
et puis il y a emacs... bien pratique aussi, ou simplement nautilus ou
caja

Greetings all;

My web site (see the sig) is local, on this machine, in a pretty tight 
sandbox, but not running https.

Where can I find a tut that is a complete instruction set to have it do 
an auto-redirect to itself, but using the "s" stuff regardless of the 
accessing client as long as the client can handle the https stuff this 
conversion will return to the client?

I tried putting those 3 lines quoted numerous times at the bottom of the 
httpd/conf/httpd.conf, but that killed local access so I assume it also 
killed external access too.  And its failure did not generate an 
error.log entry.

Something was said about the AllowRedirect settings in httpd.conf, but it 
did not specify what to change it to. Currently several such entries 
are "none"

I want to have it applied to the whole site. URL to the best tut please.

Hi Mark,

I think Mozilla's position is reasonable since if you allow this
sort of thing to remain possible, nobody will fix anything. Broken
software will ship with instructions for the users to "just make an
exception".

Would it be feasible to put a proxy in front of the HTTP-only
service, that consumes HTTP on its backend and exposes HTTPS on its
frontend?

That way, the burden is on the administrator rather than the
end-user, which is probably a fairer division of labour.

Merci pour toutes vos solutions, j'ai appris pas mal de chose.
la solution qui a marché pour moi  est :
mv "Gers Chambre d'h"?"ote" "Gers Chambre d'hôte"
J'avais cette solution quand j'ai fait appel à la liste mais je n'avais pas vu 
que le nom du fichier commençait par  une date, la fatigue peut être.

J'ai déjà rencontré ce problème, les caractères étant encodés en
iso-8859, et l'autocomplétion est clairement la bonne solution pour
renommer le fichier.  On a des ? mais ça n'est pas important pour
l'opération.

This could be more useful (pdftk can do the same thing) than evince
if the OP means what is in their Subject line, for which I would use
xournal (look for PDF Annotation in its manual).

I think the issue has been raised and rejected at Firefox. Although OS
independent, I was thinking a work-around might involve the
distro--Chromium is gone but maybe there's a browser we didn't
consider, for instance. We only need one browser to work as these
tasks are all performed in house. Just seemed like there must be a lot
of old equipment with embedded HTTP servers out there that clever
people keep working with OSS and chewing gum. But it's an imperfect
world and no one can eliminate risk completely--we may just have to be
vigilant.

commencer il faudrait voir si l'autocomplétion du nom de fichier
en utilisant la touche  permet de saisir correctement le nom
de fichier.

Si le caractère Unicode bloque ce mécano, alors il y a une astuce
à base de `find' et de numéro d'inode.  Tu peux obtenir le numéro
d'inode de ton fichier avec :

$ ls -i
16125155 Gers Chambre d'h?te

Reporte le numéro dans un find comme suit et le fichier sera
renommé :

$ find . -xdev -inum 16125155 -exec mv '{}' nom-potable ';'

Le fichier devrait enfin être renommé, quel que soit son nom
d'origine.  N'oublies pas le "';'" à la fin.  Pas de risque de
trouver des doublons de fichiers, par définition les numéros
d'inodes sont uniques pour un système de fichier donné (l'option

Bonne approche, mais comme le caractère "\" est échappé, la fermeture
a encore lieu à l'apostrophe de l'hôte, il faut fermer l'inhibition
avant l'échappement puis la réouvrir après :

mv 'Gers Chambre d'\''h?te' nom-potable

Ceci dit, il est toujours possible que ça ne résolve pas le problème
induit par le caractère unicode présent dans la chaîne.

Déjà, je reçois le mail avec un caractère accentué qui peut poser problème :
"hôte" => "h?te" , pour renommer le répertoire.

Commencer par mettre "Gers Chambre d'hôte"...

Attention, la fermeture de quote se produit à l'apostrophe entre
le "d" et le "h" de "d'h?te".  La partie "h?te '" est laissée à
libre interprétation du shell (et il va donc se plaindre qu'il lui
manque une quote fermante).

else? Is there a reason why we can't permanently allow mixed content
just for websites we control? Or allow XHR for private IP's? I think I
saw a Firefox bug thread where these concerns were summarily
dismissed, but there must be a lot of shops like ours out there. How
do they handle this security issue?

Firefox: security vs flexibility or rtfm?

Our web server is off-site, colocated at a typical data center.
On-site are networked items such as a label printer and a weigh scale.

To generate a shipping label from Firefox browser, one requests a page
from the server, then gets the weight from the scale. At first this is
a problem: we had a Beaglebone serving HTTP requests for the weight
and Firefox blocked the request. Solvable by serving weight over HTTPS
with CORS header, using the self-signed cert and whitelisting the
private IP address in Firefox.

But for printing the label, we have no control over the HTTP server
(and Zebra seems to have no plans to update their print servers): it
does not serve HTTPS requests, so default Firefox blocks the XHR.
Firefox does offer a way to unblock mixed content on a website
temporarily, but you can't unblock *before* the request, which
invalidates the label, and as soon as one navigates away from the
site, the block is re-instated. So the only stable solution appears to
be setting the security.mixed_content.block_active_content parameter
to false. But that means allowing mixed active content on any page
served anywhere on the net.

So I'm wondering, first, am I missing something obvious? Or, now that
Debian has thrown its lot in with Firefox, is this an issue for anyone
else? Is there a reason why we can't permanently allow mixed content
just for websites we control? Or allow XHR for private IP's? I think I
saw a Firefox bug thread where these concerns were summarily
dismissed, but there must be a lot of shops like ours out there. How
do they handle this security issue?

Inderdaad.

Er zit ook HDMI 2.0 op de monitor, maar dat gebruik ik niet. En volgens
de manual werkt dat alleen met Nvidia videokaarten goed.

que tal compartir por NFS lo que quieras del NAS únicamente con el 
servidor debian, y montarlo en éste como si fuera un directorio local.

I sometimes have freezes on my Pi; what I intend to do is set up remote syslog
or journal logging to another host, and see whether there's any clues in the
last logs when it's gone down.  There's also a netconsole kernel module that
can be used to spray kernel log messages over UDP, that may be worth a look:

It's possible it dies before the logging services have a chance to commit the
logs to disk, hence my suggestions to fire it over the network instead.

Hola lista tengo entre manos un proyecto de una especie de biblioteca 
virtual y estoy elaborando ideas de como llevar a cabo esto, una de las 
interrogandtes que tengo es la siguiente y explico el escenario que 
pienso llevar a cabo y aun no tengo:


servidor debian:, apache2, mysql, php, este servidor va a alojar una 
plataforma web la cual va a mostrar el contenido de una gran cantidad de 
documentos a descargar o visualizar directamente en esta.


servidor NAS: en este se van a alojar todos los documentos referidos en 
la plataforma antes mencionada.


mi duda es la siguiente como pudiera direccionar las peticiones web de

  instead of lingering at the login: screen why
not actually sign on and leave it with the journalctl -f 
(-f is the same as --follow) screen?

  what version are you running?  have upgrades
been applied?

  which logs are you looking at?  perhaps there is 
another you're missing...

  is there a raspian community forum someplace?
(i'm not familiar with it and have no idea what it
would do or look like running headless).

Keyboard woes with X forwarding

Hello

My main PC runs Debian Jessie and supports 2 virtual Windows machines 
using VirtualBox. On the Windows machines I run Logmein which allows me 
to access the Windows machines from my Android tablet when on the road.

I have installed Xming on the VMs and sometimes use SSH with X 
forwarding using PuTTY to access the Jessie host once logged remotely 
into the VMs. Then I have been known to fire up X apps, eg IntelliJ IDEA 
Community Edition, to work on code while on the road.

Everything basically works, except I have found that the backspace key 
on my Android bluetooth keyboard does not work with the X apps. Also 
Delete.

Backspace and Delete work fine in the Windows environment, ie after 
logging in to the VM with Logmein, so there is nothing wrong with the 
keyboard or the keyboard setup at the tablet end.

When I SSH into the Jessie Host from the VM, the shell that comes up 
also has a working backspace.

But, when I then use that shell to launch an X app, the launched app 
does not respond when I press backspace.

The info I could find from Google is all about remapping the backspace 
key so it generates the right keycode. So some step involving xmodmap. 
But I think I have a more fundamental problem, as when I run xev from 
the SSH shell and press the backspace key there is NO RESPONSE AT ALL. 
So somehow the backspace keypress is not making it to the X app, as 
opposed to being mapped to the wrong code.

So to summarise, remoted into Windows, no problem. SSH from there to 
underlying Jessie host, no problem. Launch xev or other X app from that 
session, including another Xterm, backspace keypresses do not seem to be 
getting delivered.

Any ideas how I can diagnose this?

I am using Debian/Raspbian on my RPi but few days ago it started to freeze.
By freeze I mean, it is running headless server and I see line raspberry
login: _ and cursors blinks. But once daily if freezes and cursor does not
blink anymore. Machine is unreachable and I must power cycle it to restart
it.

How to find out what is causing it?

When sometimes my RPi freezed in the past (once per 6-12 months) it showed
me for example journal error or some kind of meaningful error message. But
now nothing, just cursor stops blinking. I am pretty helpless without any
error message. And nothing is in logs, too.

Ik gebruik Stretch, oftewel Debian 9, met de daarbij horende pakketten,
ook firmware-amd-graphics uit non-free. De firmware wordt netjes geladen.

Indeed, that stopped it.

I'd had no idea gdm was a service that would alert if a physical 
display wasn't there.  My mental model had been that display software 
would simply (always) write to some video hardware which would display 
on whatever display was plugged in, so I hadn't thought of there being 
a service, there.
