I'm not sure because I didn't try both ways, but it asked if I want to

I would probably install again and choose *only* the ssh task. It's

On first boot I would

stretch, RPi

Just installed stretch on an RPi. SSH doesn't start on boot. No
problem with postfix, apache, proftp, bind, etc, as far as I know.

I tried to have it start at boot via Webmin; systemd said it wouldn't
do that without a command. It didn't say what kind of command it
wanted or where to put it, but there are several commands on the
system.

I went to /etc/init.d. There's an ssh script there, and systemd
started the server when I ran the script.

I went to /etc/default, and the script there said it was sourced into
an init.d script.

The man page talks a lot about how to start things, but I couldn't
find anything about where to put the data.

Anyone know the incantation to make the s word start ssh? A link to
clear dox on the innards of s.*d would probably be enough. So would a

Re: Problema com dependências de pacotes

2018-10-31 Thread Rodolfo
"Já desinstalei com purge e ao instalar novamente"

O que exatamente você desinstalou com purge e o que exatamente você tentou
instalar novamente?

Rode o comando # dpkg -C para verificar se existem pacotes quebrados.

Uma boa tentativa é você rodar a instalação/desinstalação com aptitude, o
gerenciamento dele é mais robusto.

Yeah, I didn't get that hard drive failure part either but thought it
was a question of superior knowledge and cleverness on the part of Mr.
R.

The OP probably should have started by saying, "I don't know how, but I
fucked up and overwrote a binary executable with a man page," and then
we all could've had a good laugh. At least he's reading those man pages.
I do note, however, he didn't say *info* page.

But I don't have a firm grasp of the issues involved here (if there are
any whatsoever), so I'll bow out (once again).

How did you reconfigure the MAC address after the migration? I'm gettig

Reco's comment that it could be a "(mis)feature" and Greg's response led

A (mis)feature. Any executable text file without defined shebang is a
shell script. In this case - a syntactically invalid shell script.
So it can be executed, but the child shell will exit immediately.

I think I understand.

Correction inserted above, this keyboard is a great keyboard around messy
machinery, but it silently shifts from insert to overwrite mode entirely
too easily with my short, somewhat fat fingers trying to type rapidly on
it. So adjacent keys get pushed which apparently interpreted as the
magic twanger that controls that particular function.

I guess I stumbled immediately upon "non-reproducible sequence of
events." Then I kind of wondered, like, well, can those events be
briefly described, at least? Or maybe 'non-reproducible' means you just
don't know what the hell happened?

But Reco extracted marrow from your post, and I will gracefully bow

Not quite. An attempt to execute a file that doesn't have a valid magic
number in the first few bytes triggers an ENOEXEC from the execve(2) call.
If this attempt was made by a C program, then that's that. You handle
the error however you choose to handle it.

However, it the attempt to execute the file was done by a shell, then
the shell will typically catch the ENOEXEC and then make a second attempt.
The exact mechanism for this secondary attempt depends on the shell.
Bash reads the first hundred bytes or so looking for NUL bytes. If it
sees a NUL byte, it decides the file is *not* a script, and you get
"Exec format error" printed on stderr. If there are no NUL bytes, then
bash launches a child bash process to read the file as a script.

Other shells may launch a copy of themselves, or they may choose to
launch /bin/sh or sh instead, or they may print an error. GNU's find
-exec launches sh, but I'm uncertain whether that's a GNUism, or a de
facto standard practice.

> In this case - a syntactically invalid shell script.
> So it can be executed, but the child shell will exit immediately.

If there's a syntax error, you'd expect to see a message. It's possible
that the "script" simply does nothing (e.g. it runs "exit" or "exec true"
or something similar before any commands that would produce output or
errors).

There's really no way to be more precise without a copy of the file's
content for analysis, and some knowledge of how and in what environment
the OP attempted to execute it. And we all know that these things will
not be provided.

A (mis)feature. Any executable text file without defined shebang is a
shell script. In this case - a syntactically invalid shell script.
So it can be executed, but the child shell will exit immediately.

Debian 9.1 with MATE installed from DVD set.

Dus doe je "apt-get update" ipv "apt update". Die eerste heeft nl wél
een stabiele interface.

Probeer dit:

apt-get -qq --print-uris upgrade

geval is.

Verder kan je automatic-upgrades ook zo configureren dat het niets
installeert, maar alleen een melding geeft als er iets te installeren
is. Hoe, geen idee ;-)

I went to a pretty good CS undergraduate program in the mid
1990s. It was fairly likely that a graduate would have most of
the skills you listed... and it was also plausible that a
barely-scraping-by graduate had none of them.

One of the required senior level courses was a survey of
currently interesting topics in the current market. It ended
with presentations from each student on something that they
had researched.

A student prepared a discussion of artificial intelligence which
did not mention any statistical techniques, neural networks,
biology, expert systems, biology, or really, anything of actual
interest. Much of the time was taken up by movie clips from The
Lawnmower Man. The actual text was mostly about how scary AI is.

I asked the only question in the Q afterwards: "Could you
explain what the difference is between AI and VR?" Some
stammering followed.

It's not always the course or the professor that fails a
student.

my statement above is based upon this sentence...

and yes, you can improve, so get back to work on
what you are missing.

year 1. basic computer hardware/software and at
least a dozen languages from various families of
languages so you get an idea of what is useful
for what.

year 2, add some theory on data structures and
computational complexity. basic networking.
graphics and graphic design.

year 3, data bases, os's, basic components of
software systems (editors, compilers, linkers,
loaders, file systems, etc)

  year 4, advanced computer architectures,
multiprocessing, advanced networking

  good luck...

you notice above i mention nothing about
MS or apps? that's stuff on top of what you
learn and is useful, but only if you want to do
that sort of development.

and, yes, i know that many of the above topics
are worthy of a lifetime of study in and off
themselves, but a CS graduate should have at least
some idea of what they are about...

  all IMO,

For the use case, ubuntu might be a good lead-in for confidence
building. I once read on luv-main, in slightly longer form:

"My grandmother currently runs ubuntu. This was not my doing, but she
managed to wipe her windows and install it accidentally when someone
handed her the live CD to deal with a windows problem she was having.
The computer asked her to do things. So she did."
