Re: Mouse left button acts really strange
Hi! I have massive problems with my Logitech M705 - Or specifically with the left mouse button. Sometimes (very often) singleclick becomes double-click, dragging items is very hard, it drops the drag before I release the mouse button. Clicking on the terminal icon in my xfce panel often starts three terminals. The weird thing is that mouse movement and the mousewheel works just fine. No problems there of any kind. This is independent of which program I use - in Claws Mail, the Chromium browser, and also in virtualbox and Steam games. This is on an up to date Debian 11 Bullseye (just upgraded to the first point release), Xfce desktop, Nvidia graphicscard using the Nvidia drivers on Xorg. All packages up-to-date with Debian 11.1. On my latest boot of the system, it looked to me like the button acted normally for about one minute, but then the usual crap started happening again, so I assume that the mouse hardware is fine. (I have also tried another mouse - same behaviour). Issue with kernel 5.10.0-9-*?
Dear list, it would be nice, if you could check something and maybe confirm or deny it. My system is debian/stable. As now the new kernel version is released, which is 5.10.0-9-amd64, I updated from 0-8-amd64 to 0-9-amd64. But, with this kernel I discovered, that the network traffic massively increased. I am not sure, what is causing this. Examining with wiresharḱ and also the syslog file, it looks like it has something to do with ntp. Also the broadcast messages are more than normal. As I said, I am not sure, what is going on, and can also not confirm, if it is an unlucky hardware of my system (amd-cpu, Nvidia graphics card and Atheros wireless card), or a kernel issue. With kernel 5.10.0-8-amd64 everything is ok. It was just by chance that I discovered this, because my network state led for the wireless card is only blinking, when there is traffic. In normal it is mostly dark, but with the latest kernel it is permanently flashing, telling, there is a lot of traffic. Before I file a bugreport, I hope, this could be confirmed by others. Thank you for reading this. Best regards Hans P.S. At the moment I am still with the old kernel, as I do not know, which data are send from my system (I wanna be secure!) signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part.

It's funny. I've got a 3-button USB Logitech "Wingman Gaming Mouse" that I've been using for ages. No scroll wheel. It has a rubber ball that has to be cleaned periodically. It has lasted longer than any other piece of hardware I've ever had.

Really frustrating stuff. Sometimes it goes away, and I think the problem is solved, but without exception, the problem comes back (within minutes). It could be that both those mice are indeed broken - but to me that seems unlikely (I won't rule it out though). Judging by these symptoms it is a hardware problem, as Eduardo suggested earlier. If you have problem with left mouse button only, it means micro-switch worn off. Even if you said you've tried another mouse, there is a high chance that spare mouse got this common problem too. It it most used mouse button after all, and every micro-switch has limited lifespan. You might fix micro-switch by applying a drop of sewing machine oil inside.¹ (I've done it before and it really helps to fix "phantom clicks" for a period of time) The other solution is to replace micro-switch. Mouse section in xorg.conf: Section "InputDevice" # generated from default Identifier "Mouse0" Driver "mouse" Option "Protocol" "auto" Option "Device" "/dev/input/mouse0" Option "Emulate3Buttons" "no" Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5" EndSection It was this earlier: Option "Device" "/dev/psaux" - but no difference, independent on which "Device" I use there. Please help me solve this problem! -- Andreas Rönnquist mailingli...@gusnan.se andr...@ronnquist.net [Please don't CC me, if I mail to a mailinglist, I am subscribed to it.]

-- Jean-Marc OpenPGP_signature Description: OpenPGP digital signature
Re: how to install node.js on debian (Docker) with 'apt-get' - having issues

You're using Docker. You have three or four options for where your docker containers come from. Official builds from a team Official builds from an OS - which probably form the basis for the above Builds from the Community - could be anybody, you don't know who/how/why Docker images you build yourself - these might be slightly modified community builds or you doing this from scratch NodeJS 16 This is straightforward: the Node.js Docker Team build official images https://hub.docker.com/_/node I'd suggest https://github.com/nodejs/docker-node/blob/e886c2c1d3a109ccfe169419f3b30f9794bacf61/16/bullseye/Dockerfile which is 16-bullseye or https://github.com/nodejs/docker-node/blob/e886c2c1d3a109ccfe169419f3b30f9794bacf61/16/bullseye-slim/Dockerfile which is 16-bullseye-slim and, yes, there are buster images there too just underneath. Python https://hub.docker.com/_/python These are built by the community - you've got every current version of Python you want but I don't know who has built them. Debian https://hub.docker.com/_/debian These are official Debian images published by Debian developers and officially maintained within Debian. Again, you have all the flavours you want here. Or you can take any one of those and use it as the basis to build your own combined image. > Reference: > > https://stackoverflow.com/questions/69446940/how-to-install-node-js-version-16-x-x-in-a-debian-based-image-dockerfile-why > > --- > Date: Tuesday October 5th, 2021 > > Node 10.x was released on 2018-04-24 (but that's the default version when > using apt-get) > > I have needs to have both Python and Node.js installed in running > container. You're pulling the versions from buster - which was started two years ago. Debian keeps a stable distro stable [But buster is now "oldstable" - stable is now Bullseye / Debian 11] > > What's up with the package repo that 'apt-get' pulls from, that it will not > install later versions of node (14.x or greater)? > > If I pull from: > > FROM python:alpine > > and include these lines > RUN apk -v --no-cache --update add \ > nodejs-current npm > > I will get node 16.x version, which makes it easy. In the sense that you are the first person to raise it with Debian in this forum - maybe not too many. Pick a basis and work with it. From the above, it seems to me that you can take the official Node docker container and add python if it isn't already there - it will probably end up being Pyhon 3.9 / 3.10? Or you can take the Debian docker image and add node and the python straight from Debian. Or you can do your own thing based on the community Python Docker container. I'm not currently using Docker: I found this article (which might be helpful - https://pythonspeed.com/articles/base-image-python-docker-images/ Most of this was composed by putting in terms into Google like Docker Debian image node or Docker Debian image Python or similar and reading the descriptions of the Docker images. Simply following what you find on Stack Overflow may not be your best bet: you might want to try some of this for yourself and see. All the very best, as ever, Andy Cater

Wild speculation: some subscriber with the domain (and e-mail) hosted at ovh set up some auto-responder annoyed by the apparent lack of reaction to (probably unsuccessful) their unsubscribe attempts.
