 vi ~/.icewm/toolbar
then add: prog freeamp (icon name) freeamp

You may need to make your own icon. Icewm needs the icons to be in a set
of
two sizes like: freeamp_16x16.xpm freeamp_32x32.xpm. I've used icons from
different Windowmaker before and just changed the size to 16x16 and 32x32
with
gimp, then added them to ~/.icewm/icons/. If you do make icons labeled
freeamp_16x16.xpm and freeamp_32x32.xpm it will look like:

 prog freeamp freeamp freeamp
 then save and restart icewm.

Is this a bug of potato (2..2.15-2000-06-07)

2000-06-15 Thread Alex Kwan
Hi!

I installed the basic debian potato system on my laptop by
disks-i386/2.2.15-2000-06-07, my pcmcia ethernet card is
working fine, but the pcmcia modem card can't ppp dial-out
(no dial tone, but can bring up the /dev/modem device),
than I downgrade to installed the slink 2.1R5, everything is
alright, I can dialout to my ISP now (exactly same configuration
and process as install the potato).
Is this a bug of potato-2.2.15-2000-06-07 or only my
system's problem?

Thanks!

Not sure what you mean by default. However, I believe X will give
preference to the first version of a font that it finds (like, if you
have TTF and Postscript versions of the same fonts, or 75dpi and 100dpi
versions). X will bitch and complain if it can't find the fixed font
which usually lives in the /misc font dir. However, the fonts that
particular applications or window manager use are dependent on those
apps.

If I inserted the modem card, scsi-2 card or pcmcia CDROM,

that is no driver for ethernet card to be found.

Re: How to setup NE-2000 PCI Ethernet Card

1998-09-08 Thread Alex Kwan
Hi! Marcelo,

When I execute lspci, the display shown bash: lspci: command not found
and I check the irq io on Windows98, the datas are: irq=9 io=7F80-7F9F

My trouble is when I install the Base System of Hamm, at step Install
Operation System Kernel and Modules, If I wanted to install the module
of the NE-2000 PCI's driver, the installation program asked me to enter
the command on the command line, if I let it blank, the installation of
this modules will failed, of course my ethernet won't work.

The question is: How to completed the Command Line Argument
to make the ethernet cards's work? simply and step by step please,
 I am only a newbie.

Thank You Very Much!

Use lspci, like this:

$ lspci
[...]
00:0b.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. 8029

$ lspci -v -s 00:0b.0
00:0b.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. 8029
Subsystem: Unknown device 10ec:8029
Flags: medium devsel, IRQ 10
I/O ports at d000

Problem is:

[507 pollux:~] dpkg -s pciutils
Package: pciutils
[...]
Description: PCI Utilities for 2.1.82 and later
This package contains various utilities for inspecting and
setting of devices connected to the PCI bus. Requires
kernel version 2.1.82 or newer (supporting the /proc/bus/pci
 interface).

Anyway, I remember I just did modprobe ne_pci and it worked (kernel
2.1.1xx)

My LAN card is 3com 3C-574 TX, PCMCIA type.
I can see the message loading device 'eth0'...done

What does your /etc/init.d/network look like? Mine is:

 ---cut---
 #!/bin/sh
 ifconfig lo 127.0.0.1
 route add -net 127.0.0.0

 route add -net ${NETWORK}
 [ ${GATEWAY} ] route add default gw ${GATEWAY} metric 1
 ---cut---

Maybe the module for your network card isn't loaded at boot time?

For example, I have a 3c905 network card that needs the 3c59x module
(intuitive eh?) I can do thwo things:

Either have the module inserted always at boot time:
 - put the word 3c59x (without quotes) on a single line in /etc/modules.

Or have the module autoloaded by kerneld (or kmod) when it is requested:
 - put the word auto on a single line in /etc/modules and comment out
all
other lines in that file. And
 - put a line alias eth0 3c59x in /etc/modules.conf to let the module
autoloader know what module to load for the eth0 device.

 Cheers,

the patch file for Cyrix-GX200MMX? I want to download it

(2) Which X-server I needed for running X?

Yes, I have one. It works peachily. I do reccomend installing and using
set6x86 and patching your kernel with the cyrix patch (the new kernels, I
believe) don't need this. So as to turn on some specific features of the
CPU and so Linux will recognize it and lists it's name correctly in the
logs. set6x86 and the patch are not required, just reccomended.
