starting x manually as non-root

2001-02-11 Thread Bernd Sokolowsky
Hi all,

since about two weeks I have problems starting X from the console.
The error message: X: user not authorized to run the X server, aborting.

The file /etc/X11/Xserver reads:

/usr/X11R6/bin/XFree86
Console

The first line in this file is the full pathname of the default X server.
The second line shows who is allowed to run the X server:
RootOnly
Console (anyone whose controlling tty is on the console)
Anybody

Any ideas where to look? root can start x just fine.
This is XFree86, version 4.0.2 from woody:

ii xfree86-common 4.0.2-1X Window System (XFree86) infrastructure
ii xserver-common 4.0.2-1files and utilities common to all X servers
ii xserver-xfree8 4.0.2-1the XFree86 X server

Regards, Bernd.

dbh Check /etc/X11/Xwrapper.config .

Changing allowed_users from rootonly to console
had the desired effect.

Thx, Bernd.
