Routing

1998-09-29 Thread Collin Rose
Is there a way to route external TCP/IP requests to my Win98 machine to my
Linux machine?

Re: Routing

1998-09-29 Thread Collin Rose
I have 3 computers, Windows 98, Windows 95, and Debian Linux 2.0.
They are all connected through a coax network. My Windows 98 computer
connects to the internet. When some when sends for instance a telnet request
(port 23) to Windows 98 over the internet (local net address 192.168.1.2) I
want the request to be forwarded to my Debian machine (192.168.1.3).

It is difficult to answer this question until you explain you network
setup in more detail... What is external? How are you connected?
What are you network addresses? In general, yes this is possible.

I suggest using a new kernel where ne2000 support is built in, then the
kernel will detect the card and it's parameters. Use make-kpkg to build a
new kernel and install using dpkg.

To make the module work you probably need a line similiar to

ne io=0x300,irq=10

If you don't want or know how to build a kernel and are using a standard
ide harddrive 586, I have a kernel built which should work for you. Let
me know and I'll make it available anon ftp.

Re: Update: mounting MS-DOS fs onto Linux

1997-11-12 Thread Collin Rose
I got that same error when I ran liloconfig and tried to install LILO on my
Win95 drive. Big mistake :-( I tried to boot Windows 95 with a boot disk
and got an invalid media type error on accessing drive c. Now I have had to
reinstall every thing after formating my hard drive.

# mount -t vfat /dev/hda1 /mnt
[MS-DOS FS Rel. 12, FAT 16,check=n,conv=b,uid=0,gid=0,umask=022,bmap]
[me=0xf8,cs=8,#f=2,fs=32,fl=0,ds=32,de=0,
data=32,se=0,ts=7805889,ls=512]
Transaction block size = 512
VFS: Can't find a valid MS-DOS filesystem on dev 03:01
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/hda1
or too many mounted filesystems

Any clues what's wrong here?

Regards,
Charles

New Linux Install

1997-10-30 Thread Collin Rose

I am trying to install Debian 1.31 r.6 on 386 w/
5 MB RAM and a 80 MB Harddrive and a 3 1/2 floppy. I made a 20 MB swap partition
and 2 MB minux and then 59.xx MB Linux partition using the rescue disk from an
old distibution. (kernel 2.0.27?)
When I try to use my 1.31
rescue disk I get the low memory remark and am instructed to follow the
instuctions in the install.html file. It was unclear in the install.html
document how to go about using the low mem disk. Can anyone help me? Thank you
for any help you can provide.
