Problem with Gnome

2002-01-13 Thread Eileen Orbell
Title: Message

Hi,

I am having problems
loading Gnome 1.4. I was using KDE prior to my attemps to install
gnome. After I execute the normal "startx" a Gnome1.4 panel appears with a
window that has a picture with GNOME 1.4 and the message Starting Gnome.
Behind it is just a screen full of dots. I can only return to the console
with ctrl-alt backspace which then returns the message
SESSION_MANAGER=local/orbell:/tmp/.ICE-unix/11286. Any help would be
appreciated.

Mysql-Php error

2001-10-09 Thread Eileen Orbell
Title: Message

Not sure if this is
the right place to be asking this question but I just recently installed Mysql -
client and server and PHP 4 and also PHP4-Mysql. I am trying to configure
PHPNuke but when I load the default index.php page it returns this
error

Call to undefined function: mysql_connect() in
/var/www/html/mainfile.php on line
42
I can connect to the
database locally but the error seems to be in remote connections. Any
ideas would be appreciated. I have read this is a common error and seems
to be related to PHP not being configured with Mysql. I installed my
packages with apt-get.

Try

deb cdrom:[Debian GNU/Linux 2.2 r3 _Potato_ - Offical i386 Binary-1

That is the line in my sources.list but of courses yours might differ
depending on what version of Debian you have installed.

man sources.list is your friend:

cdrom The cdrom scheme allows APT to use a local CDROM

Was this because snort required libc6 (=2.2.3). I removed this because it caused all sort of

Hi all,

I read a few weeks back the many attempts the Professor had made to be
removed from this list and through his final frustrations he GOT a little
mad. Anyway, I am leaving the country for 3 weeks tomorrow and felt it was
better to unsubscribe rather than come back to 3 thousand plus emails. So

following the instructions provided at the bottom of the debian email:
To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
with a subject of unsubscribe.

I did just that. But oh dear here is the reply:

You have not been removed, I couldn't find your name on the list.
What I did find were the following approximate matches:
1121 [EMAIL PROTECTED] 32752 [EMAIL PROTECTED]
1121 [EMAIL PROTECTED] 25797 [EMAIL PROTECTED]

But wait those are my email address's h Confused ? Yes I am...

Have you tried specifying your e-mail address explicitly, that is using
the subject line unsubscribe [EMAIL PROTECTED]? I thought the
unsubscription failure mail normally suggested that. At least, it did
the last time I unsubscribed from a Debian list:

Network printing

2000-12-11 Thread Eileen Orbell

Hi,

Firstly, thanks to everyone who helped me with my sound card worries, I
finally have it all working nicely including Audio CD's working. I have
had problems with sound for quite a long time so I am pretty damm
happy. Anway's, another problem I have had for some time is the inability
to print. I have a HP720 hooked to my Windows 2000 box and would really
like to print from Debian to it. I also have a NT box which uses the
printer. Is it possible that I could print to the network printer?
My Debian machine goes straight into a Hub which has cable modem going into
it also and my Windows 2000 and NT machine go into a Linksys router which
also accesses the cable modem. The main reason I do not use the router for
the Debian box is because I have a static IP for hosting my website and a
domain name that is resolved to the IP. Not sure if I said to much here
but thought it might decide if I could or could not network print.

Thanks

I reconfig my kernel and now on boot I get about 5 -6 lines of error re
PCMICIA modules. Because it boots fast I cannot read them all but I am
assuming I am missing the modules. I do not have any PCMCIA hardware
anyway so can I remove this? I did not see any reference to it in make
xconfig??

Hope I made some sence here..

Thank you that removed most of the errors. When I ran that command I did
receive the following errors though:

directory not empty so it could not remove all reference..
can I delete these directories???
I still get some reference to pcmcia on boot...

Thanks

Do you have a file called .my.cnf in root's home directory with a
[mysqladmin] section? If not, this is the problem. Add the following
lines to the .my.cnf file (if you're creating new, make sure it's
root-only readable):

[mysqladmin]
password= pwd
user= root

where pwd is of course the same password you use when invoking
mysql -u root -p, etc.

Managing Log files

Hi,

After viewing some of my logs in /var/log I see that some are really large
in size. Because I am still learning as I guess we are, is there a easy

the contents removed that is older than a certain date. I would not see a
need for any information more than 1 month old in my case.

You don't have the IncludesNOEXEC option set for the location containing
your .html file, do you? If so, change it to just Includes.

(BTW, !--#include virtual=/cgi-bin/count.cgi -- is preferable to
#exec cgi.)

Hi,

I am wondering how to execute .cgi out of the users public_html

Options Indexes FollowSymLinks ExecCGI

Allow from all

I do have .cgi extentions working fine out of the main www directory. If I

Do you have a /dev/psaux device file? That's what it will look for if you
tell it to use a PS2 mouse. Are you sure it's PS2?

The ATI is supported to my knowledge, so I'm not sure generic is the best
choice. As long as you're sure it's supported by the SVGA server. Plus, are
you using the SVGA server? You should have an /etc/X11/Xserver file that looks
something like this:

/usr/bin/X11/XF86_SVGA
