Problem with Gnome
Title: Message Hi, I am having problems loading Gnome 1.4. I was using KDE prior to my attemps to install gnome. After I execute the normal "startx" a Gnome1.4 panel appears with a window that has a picture with GNOME 1.4 and the message Starting Gnome. Behind it is just a screen full of dots. I can only return to the console with ctrl-alt backspace which then returns the message SESSION_MANAGER=local/orbell:/tmp/.ICE-unix/11286. Any help would be appreciated. Mysql-Php error
Title: Message Not sure if this is the right place to be asking this question but I just recently installed Mysql - client and server and PHP 4 and also PHP4-Mysql. I am trying to configure PHPNuke but when I load the default index.php page it returns this error Call to undefined function: mysql_connect() in /var/www/html/mainfile.php on line 42 I can connect to the database locally but the error seems to be in remote connections. Any ideas would be appreciated. I have read this is a common error and seems to be related to PHP not being configured with Mysql. I installed my packages with apt-get. Hi all, I read a few weeks back the many attempts the Professor had made to be removed from this list and through his final frustrations he GOT a little mad. Network printing
Hi, Firstly, thanks to everyone who helped me with my sound card worries, I finally have it all working nicely including Audio CD's working. I have had problems with sound for quite a long time so I am pretty damm happy. Anway's, another problem I have had for some time is the inability to print. I have a HP720 hooked to my Windows 2000 box and would really like to print from Debian to it. I also have a NT box which uses the printer. Is it possible that I could print to the network printer? My Debian machine goes straight into a Hub which has cable modem going into it also and my Windows 2000 and NT machine go into a Linksys router which also accesses the cable modem. The main reason I do not use the router for the Debian box is because I have a static IP for hosting my website and a domain name that is resolved to the IP. Not sure if I said to much here but thought it might decide if I could or could not network print. Hi, I need a little help with apache and setting up the following code to run. At this moment it is contained in my .hmtl file and nothing happens other than the other html code I have in there !--#exec cgi=http://hostname/cgi-bin/count.cgi-- I have 3 files in my /etc/apache directory httpd.conf srm.conf access.conf If this helps any I can run .cgi files in the cgi-bin directory fine... I do appreciate any help. I have tried this for days now and nothing!!! Re: Help with apache
If I include this line in my index file: !--#include virtual=/cgi-bin/count.cgi -- All it wants to do is download the page to disk. The .html page does not even load. If I remove the line of code the pages loads fine.. ??? You don't have the IncludesNOEXEC option set for the location containing your .html file, do you? If so, change it to just Includes. XFsetup
Hi, I am still trying to config xwindows. I have a ATI 16mg video card which I labeled as generic, as PS2 mouse. I downloaded the XF86_SVGA. When I run startx I still get no mouse and error returned FATAL SERVER ERROR Cannot open mouse (No such file - directory) What am I doing wrong? This is really getting me down now (smile) Thanks Eileen Orbell Software Internet Applications Capitol College mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Don't Fear the Penguin.
Re: XFsetup
As i said in my message I downloaded the XF86_SVGA, actually when I run startx it loads into xwindows but freezes up due the mouse error. I no the diff between a serial PS2 mouse but this seems weird to me. I even used: ln -s /dev/psaux /dev/mouse to send any program looking for /dev/mouse to /dev/psaux Still no luck!! This is really getting me down now (smile) Do you have a /dev/psaux device file? That's what it will look for if you tell it to use a PS2 mouse. Are you sure it's PS2? The ATI is supported to my knowledge, so I'm not sure generic is the best choice. As long as you're sure it's supported by the SVGA server. Plus, are you using the SVGA server? You should have an /etc/X11/Xserver file that looks something like this: [EMAIL PROTECTED] msoulier]$ cat /etc/X11/Xserver /usr/bin/X11/XF86_SVGA Console Mike -- Michael P. Apache- CGI
Hi, I installed the apache module yesterday using apt-get. I have just changed to debian as RH was getting me down. Anyway's I edited the httpd.conf file and see no mention of CGI at all. In RH The lines were already in the conf file I just needed to edit them to my needs. Also 1 more debian questions and that is file permissions. Can i chmod a whole directory and its contents? I have a images directory but chmod 777 images or whatever does not change the files within the directory. Thanks for any help.
