Installing xlib6g for gs on system not using X
Hello, I am installing GhostScript (gs_3.33_6.deb) on my libc6 system. I do not X windows but svgalibg1_1.2.13-1.deb The gs package *requires* xlib6g library but when trying to install that I get the following 3 errors: ldconfig: warning: can't open /lib/libc5-compat/usr/X11R6/lib (No such file or directory), skipping ldconfig: warning: can't open /usr/X11R6/lib/libICE.so.6 (No such file or directory), skipping ldconfig: warning: can't open /lib/libc5-compat/usr/X11R6/lib (No such file or directory), skipping Since these are only warnings can I safely ignore them or is something broken? I've sent 2 messages to the names I found in the docs, namely : [EMAIL PROTECTED] and [EMAIL PROTECTED] but they were both returned 'user unknown' It's a pity as Taper seems like a very good backup programme but with the current bug it is virtually unusable. Filling in the dialog boxes with Taper 6.8.2
Hello, I've just installed the Taper 6.8.2 backup to tape programme. I have encountered a curious phenomena namely that I cannot type any characters in the message boxes, i.e. name of backup etc. The cursor left and right arrows are the only things that work. The programme is a semi-graphic type of programme i.e. colours, cursor driven menu, etc. and I was wondering if I needed to do something with setterm. Anyone got an idea? p.s. I am not using Xterm and am using a notebook with colour TFT screen. Re: tar, cpio, or cp?
tar cf /path | ( cd other/path ; tar xvf -) cp -a /path /other/path Are there real differences between the three? What about symlinks, hard links, empty dirs, devices? I know, I could read the manuals, Your question prompted me to think about the way I make backups of my Debian system to tape. I use: tar cvf /dev/st0 . Could someone on the list please tell me if I can restore my complete working system from the archive made in this fashion - or suggest a better way !
