apt.conf wheezy 7.1
I am trying to set up apt.conf. The question is: What or How does the Debian developers place in written text the expression for Intel 64 bit. I can see at this page: http://www.debian.org/releases/wheezy/amd64/ch02s01.html.en#idp5618944 That the Intel 64 bit is expressed as amd64 for the designation Architecture as shown in the table. In the apt.conf example file there are two apt options, i assume that they are options from what i read. Architecture - singular Architectures plural In the example file or the man apt.conf file the Architecture is shown as i386. The i386 is usually associated with 32 bit. Here in these e mail posts i am just trying to get the goolosh strait. Architecture Architectures And what are the correct words, names, expressions for these fields. I am working with a pre installed machine with a 64 bit Intel Ivy Bridge i3-3110M 2.4 GHz This is what the example file show: !-- apt { architecture “i386” ; // i386 is usually 32 bit Intel. architecture :amd64; // Intel or amd } -- Or do people just ignore the apt configure and preferences tools. Thank you

book reference
Question: if a scale of 1 to 10 were available what would the number attributed this book be in reference to Debian and the GNU Linux OS be. What would be a good book reference to the C object model architecture be for Debian GNU Linux OS. Please send me some feedback. I went on to another search box to look at Exodus toolkit and the top search result page led to the Shore Project. http://research.cs.wisc.edu/shore/ *Release Information:* *SM 5.0 and later releases -- Summer, 2007* These releases are of the Shore Storage Manager (a.k.a. The bios is at v 2.0 and i need to upgrade that, good luck i would guess. any suggestions besides contacting the brick wall at the bios software writer`s home. Thanks in advance.

hello Question: what are the default use assigned to the f1 through f7 consoles. i do understand that f7 is gui. i have found http://wiki.debian.org/Console and at that address there is not a writ on f1 through f7 default assignments. i would assume f1 could be for admin purposes ?. i would just like to get it strait. and then contribute what i find to that wiki for any other neophytes. thank you.

printer utility precedence
printer utility precedence working with squeeze 6.0 net install as illustrated here: http://www.debian.org/CD/netinst/ questione one: what ?, is the precedence of services and or utilities to just print using the command lp. is it common for a person who is actually trying to learn to have to hand write many docs from the OS just to set up a line printer. There is installed hplip and am able to print a test page. and that is it. actual real useful documentation for hplip is difficult to obtain with numerous voices in a empty casket pointing at plethora of empty links. as well as no one person is able to place in writing if hplip is GUI centric or what ? if any thing in tying hplip into the existing system via scripts and functions. i would just as soon ship can hplip and work with cups. but what is the precedence in and of utilities and services to actually just print. i am not looking at any complex arraignment for a multi tiered office environment. would just like to print out docs. and learn something. to sort through the options in docs that make up what seems to be a plethora of options in mix and match, to figure out the jungle of options to just work with the available services and utilities with tangible documentation material. thank your in advance for your assistance.
Re: vim
i am using vim to add the one and only name in a usr account to the groups file for printing. i am working with debian 6.0 with out any form of a GUI to learn system admin with an explicit aim in setting up a lan for web development. but as many voices scream, read the docs, as i do. i have been through program language C and PHP. but when it comes to Linux in general, i just want to scream. Re: [S.u.S.E. Linux] Re: Which Linux distribution???
Hi! This is James from S.u.S.E.. Thanks to Tom Schaefer for the good rundown. [...] I have found a great use for every distribution I have encountered and they're all good. ANY of the Linux distributions makes an excellent choice. (see http://www.linux.org check the distributions page) Right, each person has their preference. One day we'll have a customer who will consider a feature awesome and the next day someone will call it crap depending on his needs and preferences. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. :) [...] get over it and support your distributor by becoming a subscriber. Keep these people in business. Linux is an emerging market and we need to support all of the distributors as best we can. Stay with a distributor who is providing the kind of support that works for you. Thanks, we definitely need that. Whenever I describe what we're doing to people in more 'traditional' business sectors, they ask me how the heck we survive by selling a product for $50 a pop that one can freely distribute to as many people as they want. Luckily through the support of the great Linux community we have been successful and that makes us able to keep improving our product and expanding the role of Linux in the world. Also, I think we Linux providers are doing a good job at following a coop-etition model. Sure we have healthy competition, but we are trying to keep the #1 goal in mind--chip away at the M$ hegemony. I think of it sort of like a political party. In a party, people will debate and argue like crazy to make sure that the best ideas/features come to the surface, but they have to always rally together at election time and rally around the candidate. For us, we should have that same healthy debate, but we can't let that distract us from the bigger goal. So, with that said, I encourage you to debate like mad, but let's use it to keep getting better and better rather than splitting us apart into factions that avoid each other. The last thing we need in the Linux community is a big pissing contest about distributions. At current prices, you can afford to try ALL of them and still beat Microsloth! Yep!
