gimp plug-ins
For some reason the gfig plug plug-in for The Gimp is not included in the Debian distribution.(?) I have been trying for days to compile it but it complains of missing libraries that I am unable to locate. Has anyone been able to sucessfully compile this plug-in with the hamm distribution? Or is it another program that is not compatable with libc6/ hamm libraries? Tried searching the mail list archives, but it appears they haven't been updated in quite a while. Haven't seen replies to my previous posts either. Is anyone answering queries anymore or has the volume of mail driven off everyone knowledgeable, leaving only those of us with questions? Is this a problem that needs to be addressed? Fvwm2 FvwmPager
I am unable to get either FvwmButtons or TkGoodStuff to swallow the FvwmPager module. Can't think of any other configurations I haven't tried. It doesn't appear to be related to the new multi-file fvwm2rc configuration setup (although it is definitely confusing to setup and I could be easily missing something in all those various interrelated files). I've tried using a single old-style configuration file with no results either, using both new and old configuration methods. Has anyone else run into this problem with the current version of Fvwm2 in hamm? Anyone been able to get Pager swallowed? Ive been able to get other modules swallowed, its just Pager that won't go down. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. magicfilter, gs, deskjets
I apologize if this is slightly off topic. I can't seem to find an answer elsewhere, having tried the more appropriate newsgroups. When printing color on my HP 692C the color pictures are much to dark. The Printing HOWTO suggests appending a file, gamma.ps, right before the file name in the gs command. I've created this file as follows: %! {0.3 exp} {0.3 exp} {0.3 exp} {0.3 exp} setcolortransfer I've tried running this from the command line and inserting gamma.ps at the end of the gs command line in the magic filter configuration file, all with no noticable results. I've tried changing the values to various numbers but whatever I do I see no change in print darkness. Does anyone know how to lighten the print when using magicfilter? I'm sure I'm doing something wrong, but after two full days of tinkering I still haven't discovered what! If someone out there has succesfully lightened their print in this situation I would love to know what did the trick. I'm using the current /hamm versions of gs and magicfilter. Any hints, pointers, etc would be most appreciated! Thanks in advance. Re: clean hamm install
___CLEAN HAMM/UNSTABLE INSTALL___ This is how I did it: 1. Start with the stable base disks and install the base Debian Linux system per the standard method (ie; follow the prompts on screen.) See the Debian Installation Guide. ---Begin installing hamm release--- The following .deb packages are all found in the unstable hamm section. The latest packages may have release numbers higher than those shown, but should also work. 2. Using dpkg, _NOT_ dselect, install ldso_1.9.6-2.deb , ie; dpkg -i ldso_1.9.6-2.deb 3. Using dpkg with the FORCE (-B) option install libc6_2.0.6-2.deb dpkg -i -B libc6_2.0.6-2.deb ^ (The force option is necessary because libc6 conflicts with the libc5 in the stable package on your system!) 4. Using dpkg install libc5_5.4.38-0.1.deb dpkg -i libc5_5.4.38-0.1.deb __ NOTE that the hamm release uses new boot scripts so if you have modified the files in /etc/init.d don't just blindly copy your old config files to your new installation!!! __ 5. Reboot. If everything went as expected you should get a clean boot. 6. Using dpkg install ncurses3.0_1.9.9e-2.deb (use same dpkg -i command sequence as in examples above) 7. Using dpkg install ncurses3.4_1.9.9g-7.deb 8. Using dpkg install libreadline2_2.1-7.deb 9. Using dpkg install libreadlineg2_2.1-7.deb 10. Using dpkg install bash_2.01-5.deb 11. Using dpkg install libg++272_2.7.2.8-0.1.deb 12. Using dpkg install dpkg_1.4.0.19.deb 13. Using dpkg install comerr2g_1.10-9.deb 14. Using dpkg install e2fslibsg_1.10-9.deb 15. Using dpkg install dpkg-ftp_1.4.9.deb ---if installing XWindows --- 16. Using dpkg install Xlib6_3.3.1-2.deb Xlib6 MUST BE INSTALLED FIRST! 17. Using dpkg install Xbase_3.3.1-2.deb 18. Using dpkg install Xfntbase_3.3.1-2.deb 19. Using dpkg install Xserver-whatever.server.you.use... 20. You should now be able to use dselect safely to install the rest of the hamm packages you want. You may need to rerun the 4. [C]onfig selection several times in order to get everything fed in in the right order and all the dependencies resolved. Hope this helps. If there are any errors in my method here please correct them! Ink Jet Printers
HP 694c DeskJet Epson Stylus Color 600 These printers aren't listed as either compatible or non-compatible in the hardware compatibility HOWTO.Is anyone using either of these printers or know if they work with Debian? The HP uses HP PCL level 3 language. The Epson uses ESC/P2 language. Thanks for your help! netscape
Netscape will not start-up. I've been using this version of Netscape without trouble for months. When started, a pid is assigned and issuing a pidof netscape confirms that the process exists. After several tries Netscape will finally start after complaining that it is already running. This occurs regardless of whether I am connected to my ISP or not. As stated, I have not changed any of the Netscape files or settings that I am aware of, this problem just appeared one day. The only thing I can think of is that I periodically upgrade my Debian packages every couple of months, and I did run an upgrade shortly prior to this problem occuring. No other programs seem to be suffering. Anyone else having this problem or anyone with any suggestions. I can find no error messages in the logs related to this. I also tried updating to the new Communicator 4.04 and it exhibits the exact same behavior as the old 3.01 version. Thanks! Re: netscape
dpk wrote: Have you looked in your ~/.netscape direcotry for a file named 'lock'?? If it exists, quit your netscape applications and rm ~/.netscape/lock and then restart. Sometimes netscape will be improperly shut down and not remove its lockfile. Thanks, Dennis -- dpk [EMAIL PROTECTED], Systems/Network | work: 353.4844 Division of Engineering Computing Services | page: 222.5875 Yes, that's what I thought at first, but it doesn't correct the problem. I can remove the locks, kill all the Netscape processes and it still won't start up. It does create new process id's and locks each time I try to start it. For example, I'm using it now, but I had to start Netscape 5 times before it came up on the screen. So there are 5 process IDs now showing netscape on them! Thanks for the advice, though, I appreciate your quick response! Regards, Jess Stryker -- TO UNSUBSCRIBE FROM THIS MAILING LIST: e-mail the word unsubscribe to [EMAIL PROTECTED] . Unable to open initial console
About every 1 out of 3 times my computer boots I get a message that says something to the effect of: Unable to open an initial console and the boot process stops. I'm not familiar enough with the boot process to know what might be causing this and was unable to find anything helpful in the booting Howto. Does anyone have any advice for me? It's not a major problem, just annoying. Information that may be related (?) or may indicate a completely separate problem: Two error messages always appear in the kernels boot records: Failed initialization of WD-7000 SCSI Card! I don't have any SCSI drives on this computer (to my knowledge!). PPA: unable to initialise controller at 0x378, error 2 What is PPA? Hardware is: DFI G586-IPV motherboard with Intel 430VX 512K and AMD-K5 PR90 CPU. Award bios. 16 mb EDO 60ns Very old Maxtor 213MD hard drive Hopefully that's too much information, but better too much than too little!!? Thanks very much for your assistance!
