Re: Strange file in my /etc
Hi Eamon, I moved '-src' to 'src.bak' several days ago and rebooted my computer a few times. My system seems normal. Maybe it is caused by Snort? I got an e-mail from Leandro. He asked me if I installed any IDS but he didn't explain what is thie file for. Re: Installation problem
Mr. Kooij, I made a very stupid mistake. I didn't read the installation manual very carefully. The manual states that do not partition /dev but this is what I exactly did. I am so embarrassed. Now, every thing looks ok. Sorry to waste your valuable time. How to change e-mail header
Hi I recently downloaded elm-2.4ME+37 and compiled it without much problem. But now I can not change e-mail header information. I needed to change the information because my local log-in name and host name differ from my ISP's e-mail address. e.g. Local log-in name: jimmy Local host name: apple ISP's log-in name: kintaro ISP's DNS name:hkabc.net When I send out a mail from my local system, the header becomes Reply-Path: jimmy.apple Sender: Jimmy Lu [EMAIL PROTECTED] I need to change it to: Reply-Path: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sender: Jimmy Lu [EMAIL PROTECTED] Previously, I use dselect to install elm-2.4ME+25 binary to my computer and created a file called elmheaders in ~/.elm directory. I just add one line which is From: Jimmy Lu [EMAIL PROTECTED] in it. Everything worked fine at that time but now it doesn't work. Can someone help? Thanks in advance. smail+elm questions
I just set up smail and elm on my pc so that I can write my e-mail from my pc and send it directry from my pc to anybody anywhere. This is very convenient but I have some problems. 1)my e-mail address is [EMAIL PROTECTED] but my local pc's log-in name is jimmy. So when I send my e-mail from my pc, the From section of my e-mail will be From: Jimmy Lu [EMAIL PROTECTED]. This will cause problem because [EMAIL PROTECTED] is not my actual e-mail address. How to change smail/elm settings to reflect my actual e-mail address? 2)I am used to pine because my ISP has it. I am a light e-mail user and only use a few functions of pine. There are some neat pine features I always use them but I don't know elm has them or not. a. I use pine's attachment function to send binary files. Does elm have this function? b. I can create a text file and pine can read(import) this file to the message section of the e-mail. I can edit it before I send it if I want to. Does elm have this function? Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks in advance. Jimmy -- TO UNSUBSCRIBE FROM THIS MAILING LIST: e-mail the word unsubscribe to [EMAIL PROTECTED] . Trouble? e-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] .

Re: ftp upgrade problem
I have a similar problem on one of mey machine. I have two Linux machines networked. The strange thing is that my gateway machine works fine but not for the other one. When I try to ftp from that machine, I can log to the ftp site but when I do ls, it just waits forever. ^^ On Sun, 7 Sep 1997, Britton wrote: I have a problem using the ftp upgrade method for 1.2 to 1.3. I have manually retrieved the new software refered to in the ftp information. I use the default options. I can connect manually to ftp.debian.org, but when dselect tried to do it I get: Using FTP to check directories...(stop with ^C) Connecting to ftp.debian.org... Login as anonymous... Where things hang indefinately. A possibly related problem I have is with ftp in general: it doesn't work with some sites. With sunsite.unc.edu, for example, I get $ ftp sunsite.unc.edu Connected to sunsite.unc.edu. 220-Welcome to the SunSITE USA ftp archives! where it then hangs indefinately every time. I have tried -p but it doesn't help. It doesn't do this with all sites. I suspect the '-' character may be involved one way or another, but that is a complete guess really and I still don't know how to fix the problem. I have to kill ftp with ^\. Lynx also hangs on startup (^C will kill this one), so mayby this is a more general type of problem. If anyone has a guess as to what is going on, what to look for, or what packages I should try re-installing to make things work I would greatly appreciate it. -- TO UNSUBSCRIBE FROM THIS MAILING LIST: e-mail the word unsubscribe to [EMAIL PROTECTED] .
