Doesn't need any extra configuration of the MUA, end-user only needs

Yes.

You need to native IPv6 from your ISP, or an IPv6 tunnel from one of

Google for ipv6 tunnel broker if your ISP is not providing native

Den försöker logga in, men inget

bootpartitionen samt chroot:a in i din Debianinstallation.

# mount -t ntfs /dev/hdX /mnt/windows

GRUB not loading kernel image

2007-06-29 Thread Kim Christensen
Hey list,

I came across a really pesky problem when installing Debian on one of
our servers today. An installation like any other, with our standard
setup:

* 3ware 9550SX-4LP RAID controller
* 2x Western Digital WD5000YS drives in RAID1

As this was only to be used for temporary storage, I didn't bother with
LVM on the disk array. I went with the following partition layout:

/dev/sda1 ext2 (50M)
/dev/sda2 swap (2G)
/dev/sda3 reiserfs (the rest)

The installation went fine. I installed GRUB as a boot loader, and
continued to reboot the server. However, after the GRUB loading screen
nothing happened.

GRUB echoes out its boot command list (like always), but hangs where it
should load the actual kernel image. I have done a few reboots, no luck.
I also tried mounting the partitions in a rescue shell using the Debian
CD, which works like a charm.

Since I do not get any specifics out of GRUB on what might cause the
trouble, I'm a little unsure on what I should do next to troubleshoot.

Any ideas?

Kernel version is 2.6.18.4.

Best regards,

Inserting custom module during etch install

2006-09-08 Thread Kim Christensen

Hey guys;

I need to insert a custom module for my e1000 82563EB NIC during the
Etch install, but don't really know how I can compile the module
sources to fit with the kernel verison on the Etch CD.

Yes, there's an e1000 module already existing on the CD, but Intel
released a new chipset (82563EB) and waited so long before releasing
the sources for it so they haven't made it into the kernel tree yet.

I thought about downloading the same kernel source tree (2.6.16) and
compile the module sources against it, but this broke halway during
the compilation...

Any ideas?

Problems with new kernel (SW RAID1+LVM)

2006-08-23 Thread Kim Christensen

Hi list,

I have installed Debian Sarge on an IBM xSeries 306 and am using RAID1
with LVM on my two disks. However, when recompiling the kernel to
2.6.17.9 and using modules for most of the time, I cannot boot into my
system anymore.

The kernel gives me this at boot:

raid1: raid set md1 active with 2 out of 2 mirrors
madm: /dev/md1 has been started with 2 drives.
mkdir: cannot create directory '/devfs/raid': Read-only file system
mount: unknown filesystem 'devfs'
/dev/mapper/control: mknod failed: No such file or directory
Failure to communicate with kernel device-mapper driver.
/dev/mapper/control: mknod failed: No such file or directory
Failure to communicate with kernel device-mapper driver.
Incompatible libdevmapper 1.01.00-ioctl (2006-01-17)(compat) and kernel driver

0 logical volume(s) in volume group raid now active
umount: /dev: not mounted
umount: devfs: not mounted
mount: unknown filesystem type 'devfs'
umount: devfs: not mounted
pivot_root: No such file or directory
/sbin/init: 432: cannot open dev/console: No such file
Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init!

Any ideas?

It looks like devfs, which has been deprecated for a while,
has been removed from the kernel.

I've never used LVM, but I think that, if you've defined your
volumes in terms of devfs, you'll have to re-define them.

Alright, that makes sense. I installed and defined my LVM set during
the installation of Debian, after which I used the supplied 2.6.8-2
kernel (which had devfs support) and everything booted up fine. Now
that I tried to recompile to 2.6.17.9 (without devfs) and not changing
anything else in particular, I got the problem above.

I'm gonna keep tinkering with it, however I will probably move back to
the old kernel as it is right now... got a tight deadline so the
solution will have to wait until I got more time :-)

Thanks!

you can either use initramfs-tools or yaird

In spite of having the latest Debian key 1024D/2D230C5F 2006-01-03
[expires: 2007-02-07] and upgrading Debian packages from the official
sites, I got the warning The following packages cannot be

Why, should I trust the Debian packages?

apt-get install debian-archive-keyring
apt-key update

This should give you the correct keys. Seems like the one(s) you have
added to your keyring is outdated, or wrong.

I'm not sure I follow what you have done so far, are you through with
the setup process or perhaps in the middle of it? If you have/had
network connection during the setup, the settings should be saved
after completion and you should have no problems at all.

I'm guessing there is some alsa-something that just needs to be

What you're looking for is probably alsactl, which allows you to read
