aptitude: loading ChangeLog

2004-04-06 Thread Martin Kuball
Hi!

When I download the ChangeLog of an upgradeable package with command
C I get the ChangeLog of the old version. Naturally I want to see
the ChangeLog of the new version to find out what actuall changed. So
is this a bug in aptitude or am I doing something wrong?

 Don't use prgnapt-get/prgn for serious administration;
ttapt-get install/tt is useful, but for the rest you should use
real front-ends such as prgndselect/prgn and
 prgnaptitude/prgn.

Would you like to explain this a little bit? What exactly is the
advantage of using a front end over plain apt-get. At least I did not
encounter any problems using the apt-get aproach.

Re: SANE not installing properly

Hi,

 Hi,

Im running Debian/sid and have just installed sane, xsane,
 scanimage, and xscanimage.

xsane and xscanimage work without problems, but the command line
sane and scanimage do not - /usr/bin/sane and /usr/bin/scanimage do
not exist, and i believe a good number of other files too.

I think they are in the sane-utils package.

I installed via apt-get install sane, so could it be a package
 badly built?

The reason for this is that I am trying to get KView to load its
scanning module, but it seems to think that:

 quote
 == No Scan-Service Available - KView ==

You do not appear to have SANE support, or your scanner
is not attached properly. Please check these items before
 scanning again.
 /quote

I installed sane and kooka yesterday. While I can scan using the
commandline scanimage programm, kooka is not able to use the scanner.
I tried kview and got the same response as you. Maybe it's a bug in
libkscan1?

the sun java jre's. Before trying to build one by myself - maybe
someone already has a hints file and is willing to share?

Installation Questions

2004-02-29 Thread Martin Kuball
Hi!

I'm planing to install Debian on my desktop machine which already has a
running Linux. But not Debian which I came to like recently because I use it
on my laptop.

So here is the question. Is it possible with the debian installer to skip
some of the tasks? Especially formatting the partitions and installing a new
kernel? Which means I want to keep my LILO settings and everything in /boot
and /lib/modules.

Thanks,

Martin
