How to install proprietary drivers in Debian 6

2011-05-14 Thread Narendra Sisodiya
Question 1 ) How I can get know about the hardware configuration ? Is there
any method which can list down my hardware (not all) for which i am suppose
to install proprietary drivers.. In ubuntu, it displayed ATI/AMD FGLRX kind
of thing which got automatically installed. Ubuntu automatically make wifi
work but in debian I use to get problems.

Question 2 ) How to install proprietary drivers in order to make a system
work.

My system temperature increase and it shutdown automatically. I guess this
is due to FGLRX is not installed.

How to install using apt-get from local .deb files without Internet OR how to bypass sudo apt-get update

2011-05-09 Thread Narendra Sisodiya
I recently created a offline installer.. debbundle..
I got a bug in it..
Let me explain the process..

See code -
http://code.google.com/p/debbundle/source/browse/trunk/OneClickInstall_Deb_Creator?spec=svn10r=10

To install vim-gtk, I am first downloading all deb package (and not
installing it.)

mkdir -p vim-gtk
mkdir -p vim-gtk/partial
sudo apt-get -y -o dir::cache::archives=./vim-gtk install --download-only
vim-gtk
sudo rm vim-gtk/lock

Now I am copying this folder and another system which do not have Internet..

so on system 2, I am running following commands..

cd /media/usbdrive/vim-gtk
sudo apt-get -y -o dir::cache::archives=/media/usbdrive/vim-gtk install
vim-gtk

This is not installing vim-gtk on second system which is just freshly
installed.

Initially when I created this project few days back, I was using same
machine as build-server and install-test server. SO i was not getting this
error//

Source of Error : basically, a freshly installed system do not have -- sudo
apt-get update
If I run sudo apt-get update command then I command will work..
So basically, on a freshly installed system one has to apply sudo apt-get
install update in order to install some package. How I can bypass this
because my second machine do not have Internet.

Let me know if anybody want any more clarity.

How to install Software package on a Linux System when it do not have Internet - debbundle

2011-05-05 Thread Narendra Sisodiya
Problem - How to install Software package on a Linux System when it do not
have Internet ?

I know there are multiple solution to this problem.. Here I am giving one
very solution which looks perfect to solve the problem

you can down the script from http://code.google.com/p/debbundle/
What this little script will do..
For example, your system do not have vlc , then you can go to other system
which has Internet and then run the script .
Script will produce VLC.i386.OneClickInstall ,

You can can carry this file to anywhere and then install it by just clicking
it. Let me repeat, Just by clicking it, neither you terminal , nor you need
any extra software to install it.
So enjoy it and give me feedback. ( narendra AT narendrasisodiya DOT com )

Selling Preinstalled Debian on Laptop Hardware

2011-01-17 Thread Narendra Sisodiya
I would like to sell or setup a shop for Preinstalled Debian on Laptop.
I am looking for developing a kind of company who can ship/sell a
complete free (free as in freedom) product in India
* Freedom OS - Debian will all the packages are free
* openly specified hardware.
* Debian should work out of box.
I want to go this approach because I can create better products if I
target for single hardware architecture.

I am good at software side, but not good at hardware side.. So How can
i accomplish this task ?
I mean is there any good quality china or anyother laptop available
which i can directly purchase or is there any similar efforts ?
Any other help or suggestions ??

 Hi,
just from curiosity, what was the turning point to dismiss previous
 distro and start using debian?

* bugs in ubuntu 10.x release
* unbootable iso images of ubuntu
* Crap theme in 10.x
* Madness of ubuntu which is trying to create MAC - OS type look and feel
* 6 month release cycle and most buggy upgrade management which always fails
* I want to rebase http://schoolos.org to most stable.

in some hardware both iso were unbootable.
Always fail at initramfs - init not found. or any rootfs not found.

 You can change that.

 Two responses:

 1-See previous response.

2-I don't think it's that bad, quite frankly. Apple's interfaces are
more attractive than a lot of others out there. I've always liked the
design of their interface. Very clean and simple. Honestly I would
enjoy using/recreating the Mac System 7 interface.

I am using gnome from last 2 year, I always see window bar button in right.
Why they changed to left in lucid ? For me windows 7 and MAcOS theme and
interface is very crap. I cannot even work on them

  * 6 month release cycle and most buggy upgrade management which always

Who said you have to upgrade to the latest version available? Why not
use one of Ubuntu's LTS editions

LOL LTS is much buggy then non-LTS. 9.10 was the only stable version i have
used.

? Upgrading an OS/distro every six
months is kind of silly to me.

Interesting project. Good luck with it.

Other distros have done that in the past. They are on a time-based
 schedule.

OK...I don't currently use Ubuntu, nor have I used it since 6.06, so I
cannot help you there. As someone else replied earlier, Welcome to the
 Club.

I am using gnome from last 2 year, I always see window bar button in
right. Why they changed to left in lucid?

I've read that can be changed. Maybe somewhere in GConf?

I know re-mastering so I know all sort of tweaks. but point was, ubuntu
change behaviour. another example like Ctrl+Alt+D = Show desktop. but in
10.10 series it is Window button + D.

Discussion can go long. Ubuntu is also doing good but I will stick with it.
I think everybody come to source one day..

deb bundle - packaging system

2008-08-27 Thread narendra sisodiya
actually many times we get library not found,, so i just want to get some
command for bundle packaging on debian

--- in bundle packaging , we only have LSB on system first,
--- for installing a software , you will add .deb packages will all root
level dependencies, upto LSB. we can spit level of installation under
dependency of one bundle package over other. -- in other word bundle package
are group of .deb files with some shell files, with size more then 50 MB
generally,,

How this can be achieved, I know,, This is most insufficient way to handle
but this can be a easy way of installtion , and place like india (where
system are more and net connection is less or poor) this is more suitable
where user generally copy whole software drive from one machine to
another

It could be because of the gpg authentication. Try passing the parameter
 debian-installer/allow_unauthenticated=true (either =true or =1, not
sure, google it up a bit)

Alternatively, you can use debmirror to set up a partial mirror and get
 the gpg authentication mechanism working.
