Hello All,

The religion is the holy belive, which give all human inner
satisfaction, no metter who is beliving which one.

But the way you people are making other disgrace is not
like Respected people do.

I think every body should find his/her own way instead of
looking and saying, that one is wrong. Even those who
d'nt beliveon in God, they should respect each other.

This is very critical issue, we have to respect others feeling,
as if we say that one is right and other is wrong, it make the
loser un-happy may be for his whole life.Human life is too short
there is no time to make people un-happy, what we should do, is
to give lesson of PEACE instead of WAR . which is every body right.

I believe that something like ntop would fill the monitoring role. To
further figure out which workstations have specific holes/issues, use
 nessus.
is there any open NMS availabel for this purpose.

 apt-get install cpufreqd
 apt-get remove cpufreqd

try this :

apt-get --purge remove cpufreqd

it might help you -:)

left /etc/init.d/cpufreqd file there, as well as a link to it in rc2.d.
Several other daemons were also left there after apt-get removing them.

Is this behavior 'by design'? If so, where can I read about it? The man page
insists that apt-get remove is 'identicall to install except that packages
are removed instead of installed'. The behavior I'm experiencing does not
 support this claim.

 Any ideas?

 Thanks,

Why is that and how can I over come that?

Debian doesn't let you do this because it's a bad idea, security-wise.
However, if you insist on it, you can reconfigure the security settings
in your GUI login. You don't mention which GUI login you're using, but
for example, if you're using KDE, you'd edit /etc/kde[version
 number]/kdm/kdmrc, and change the line:

NO ???/KDM/ directory in my system. ?

  AllowRootLogin=false

 to true.

But again, this is not a good idea. In fact, it's not a good idea to run
as root as all, except when needed, and even then, most of the time you
can accomplish the same thing by using sudo instead.

I would now like to update my desktop
environment to the new release of KDE.
Do I have to update the GNOME package
 as well?

You did not mention what version of Debian you're currently using
(Stable/Woody, Testing/Sarge, Unstable/Sid), nor how you plan to go
 about updating to KDE.

But no, you don't have to update Gnome just because you update KDE. (And
by the way, it would be Gnome package*s*, plural.)

If you're going to manually download KDE and install it manually, that's
fine, but be aware that it then won't be integrated into Debian the way
an official Debian-sourced KDE would be. It's often a trade-off between
getting the newest shiniest stuff and getting the stuff that's available
from the official Debian repositories. A lot of time you can get a good
compromise by getting unofficial Debian-flavored software from
Debian-friendly third party sites, but then you need to have a high
degree of trust in those third parties.

(Oh, and PS: A descriptive subject line on your emails tend to get
better responses on this list. I suspect about half the regulars on this
list just automatically deleted your post because of the very generic
subject line, and those are the smart folks who can most help on issues
like this. Perhaps you should've used something like How to login to
GUI as root, and upgrading KDE. Although it's a bit longer than
preferred, the better description is preferred over brevity, generally.)

Hello Michael,

For development purposes, I have Apache2 running on a local machine. MySQL
is running on one of my main machines. The development machine is running
Debian Sarge and PHP4. PHP4 is running fine; pages that don't use database
  work perfectly.

I used apt-get to install php4-mysql. I didn't see any errors during the
install, and I have verified that it is installed.

When I try to open a web page that has mysql_connect, I get an error

First Of all i couldnt see the error , you are getting from your apache2 server.

Now, i am working on a network management system using php4,mysql and apache ,
i was getting error like it, as i was sending my user name passwd
through my html form
and it was not receving by my php4 action script , after an hour hard
searching i came to know that we have to edit php.ini file and
there an option REGISTER_GLOBAL
should be turned ON , so that our form variables could be send to php
script through apache.

i hope it will help you in debuging your system,
cheers,

message because I used an undefined function mysql_connect. The same web
page works fine if run on the production machine.

I've done web searches, but the only real advice I've found is to recompile
php. If that's what's needed, I'll do it, but I'd rather stay within the
  structures of Debian.

Can someone queue me in on what I missed on the MySQL capability install?

  tia
