One thing to consider regarding your partitions is that you will be dealing with some file-system incompatibility. Windows, by default, uses NTFS; both Debian and FreeBSD can access NTFS partitions and read data just fine, but write support is not necessarily as reliable. If you think you are going to want to copy data to your NTFS partition(s) from either Debian or FreeBSD, you should read up on the techniques and limitations of that process before you lay out your partitions. With Debian, you have a lot of file-system choices. For a triple-boot scenario, the best bet is probably ext3, which is stable and the most widely supported. But again, you should read up on the options and decide what's best for your needs. FreeBSD uses UFS (or UFS+ or UFS2, something like that) by default and unfortunately there is no support for reading from or writing to that file-system from Windows or Debian. You will be able to access your NTFS (Windows) and ext3 (Debian) partitions from FreeBSD, at least to read from them if not to write to them, but unless things have changed, your UFS (FreeBSD) partitions will not be accessible from either Windows or Debian. Basically, you need to think carefully about where you want what data, or you may find yourself rebooting multiple times throughout the day because such-and-such a file that you need is in a place where you can't get to it or can't edit it from where you happen to be. -- Michael M. ++ Portland, OR ++ USA No live organism can continue for long to exist sanely under conditions of absolute reality; even larks and katydids are supposed, by some, to dream. --S. Four weeks back i upgraded my gnome 2.10 to gnome 2.14 using etch and command apt-get install gnome-core and upgradeed to gnome 2.14 successfully.. At that time the related packages were still moving to the etch repo. Now when i do again apt-get install gnome-core it said gnome-core is already the newest version, but i belive now there are many related packages to gnome-core in the etch repository. I wanted to know how to upgrade the related packages of gnome-core ( rather than using apt-get upgrade or dist-upgrade ) since i am unable to upgrade them using apt-get install gnome-core. Re: /dev/ files
hi: it not only the matter of scsci emulation.. i dont have many files... like: sda, sda1, sdb etc.it sud contain around 1600 files.. but in my system only 160 files inside /dev. i am confused why the files are lying inside /dev/.static/dev instead of /dev/ Paras. Synaptic Problem
hi: I am using synaptic_0.57.5.1_i386.deb from debian testing repository. when i run synaptic from anyuser.. i get 'Segmentation Fault Error. My question is what is the reason behind Segmentation Fault. Does it have issues relating to gcc/g++ libraries?. i mean.. what happens if i run the program that is compiled using gcc-3.3 and my system has only gcc-4.0 and related libraries. I guess there are lots of debs in debian repo that are compiled using gcc-3.3/g++3.3 and gcc-4.4/g++4.4 using related development libraries. what do i need to do to use both types of programs that are compiled using gcc3.3/g++3.3 and also gcc4.4/g++4.4 in one machine. Confused Paras.

I have patched my kernel 2.6.13 using ck patch available at http://members.optusnet.com.au/ckolivas/kernel/ and it is working fine i guess. does any one has url or docs which help me to create the approprite/optimized .config file which may be good for using the kernel in Desktops? Re: kernel 2.6 compile error
I am however excluding absolutely everything that I do not need (also as modules). I think i cannot exclude some of the modules like: kallsysms, isicom etc.. if the unset the values for kallsysm let's say ,at the time of make-kpkg it automatically sets the value. correct me if i am wrong and let me know how can i unset it pemanently so that it will not set automatically.
