Audio problems...help!

2001-07-19 Thread Rogelio E. Castillo Haro
hi!
I just upgrade my debian potato to r3 and my sound isn't working!

When I try to hear some mp3 file with xmms, at console I receive:
/dev/dsp : no such file.
But it is there!!!

This is my ls -l /dev/dsp* output:
lrwxrwxrwx1 root root9 Jun 19 14:58 /dev/dsp - /dev/dsp0
crwxrwxr-x1 root audio 14, 3 Jun 19 14:57 /dev/dsp0

crwxrwxr-x1 root audio 14, 51 Jun 19 14:57 /dev/dsp3

I made another test with a .au file:
 cat /var/downloads/everybuddy-0.2.1beta6/sounds/Send.au /dev/dsp
and
 cat /var/downloads/everybuddy-0.2.1beta6/sounds/Send.au /dev/dsp0
but with both I obteined the next result:
bash: /dev/dsp0: No such device

Someone can helpme?

Ah! my sound card is OPL3 ISA, and I recompile the kernel with native support
for this, not module way.

Thanks.

In order to be able to mount it without being root, add user to the options
in fstab. It'll let any user mount or unmount the drive, and then you can
mount it by right-clicking the icon and selecting mount. You could try the
auto option in fstab for automounting too, but I don't know if it'll work.

I don't know about automount, but you can add icons for KDE and Gnome pretty
easily. For KDE, go to where you want the icon (including the desktop), right
click, and select the create new menu. In it are floppy and cdrom drive
icons that you can set to point to your directories where the drives mount. I
don't really remember how to do it in Gnome (if you can do it with the right
click) but I'm pretty sure you can just make an alias to the directory where
it mounts much the same way.

One thing to try: comment out the lba32 line. Re-run /sbin/lilo and try

 Good luck

I don't know what your provider is like, but mine would only install
on a Windows or Mac machine, which I fortunately happened to have
lying around. (Don't worry, it's running woody now. :-) The machine
I wanted to use as a gateway was a different machine, though, with a
different Ethernet card, and the cable modem would only give out
addresses if the MAC address of the Ethernet card connected to it
matched the address the cable company thought it should have.
Solution? Call the provider and ask them to change the MAC address on
your cable modem. It's the HWaddr number (six octets) that gets
 printed out of ifconfig.

Yes, I've heard about it, it's named Conquer or Conqueror, or something like
that...but, since a discussion I heard about the License of KDE I'd prefer
don't use
it, and try only GPL programs...
Thanks Tim.

And about an accounting system for time and money?

Hey people. Is there a way that I can get the current network transfer

seen the occasional tool to show this, but I'd like to know where they're
getting their data from and maybe hack something myself. Perhaps somewhere on
 the /proc filesystem?
