How to get rid of a wrong package?
Dear list, this is what happened to me: I have developed a piece of software and created a .deb package out of it. I then tried to install my new package onto a system using dpkg. Unfortunately I discovered that I had a typo in the dependencies of my new package so it has one dependency it will never be able to resolve because the misspelled package does not exist. Unfortunately apt-get carries this new defective package in its list of available packages and is resistant to any attempt to make it forget about the faulty package so I can correct and re-install it. Attempts like dpkg P or apt-get remove will try to de-install the package but just report it was not installed. (Which is correct as it could not be installed because of the defective dependency.) But even starting dpkg install with a corrected .deb file failes as it obviously goes to the package cache, looks up the old, wrong dependency and then again tells me it cannot install the package because of unmet dependencies. I would be interested 1. where apt maintains its list of packages it knows about, i.e. the list that will be displayed e.g. by synaptic. 2. how can that list be manipulated? Regards Torsten
ISDN: MSNs automatisch ermitteln
Hallo Liste, weiß irgend jemand ob es möglich ist unter Linux automatisch die MSNs des Anschlusses zu ermitteln an dem man angeschlossen ist? Irgendwie muss das gehen, denn ein Siemens Gigaset ISDN kann das ja auch. Die Frage ist also: - wie lautet das Protokoll? - ist es irgendwo in Linux implementiert? - wenn nein: Spricht etwas dagegen? D.h. kann man diese Funktion über eine normale ISDN-Karte nutzen? Gruß Torsten Schlabach

Dadurch bekomme ich nur die 1. (Default) MSN raus, nicht aber die (meistens) beiden anderen. ISDN: Detect MSNs automatically
Dear list, as far as I know there is a mechanism in Euro ISDN (DSS1) that allows a device attached to the ISDN network to automatically detect the MSNs of the trunk it is connected to. At least Siemens Gigaset ISDN DECT base stations support this. Does anyone know the protocol for that and if it is implemented in ISDN? Torsten
Einwahl in Debian
Hallo Liste! Ich versuche gerade, mein Debian-System dass eine ISDN-Karte hat von außen erreichbar zu machen, so dass andere Leute per ISDN anrufen und sich auf meinen Rechner verbinden können. Ich bin der Meinung ich hätte alles richtig konfiguriert (klar, ne?) nur es klappt halt nicht. Wenn ein Anruf kommt wird dieser beantwortet, leider legt mein System jedoch sofort wieder auf und hinterlässt im Syslog die Meldung isdn_ppp_bind: can't find a (free) connection to the ipppd daemon. Hat irgendwer eine Idee wo ich da suchen kann? Ich meine, kann ich dem ipppd irgendwie sagen wie viele Connections er hat? Wo kann ich das sehen? Gruß Torsten
