How to keep both kernel-2.0.36 and 2.2.x? (in terms of lp setting)
Hi, there: I would like to keep both kernel-2.0.36 and 2.2.x in my machine. As you all have known, 2.2.x change the LPT1 as lp0. That becomes a problem if I want to keep both version of kernels. Any body got a solution? My idea is to modify the initializtion script (/etc/init.d/lpd) to recognize the version of kernel it is running and using different setting for corresponding kernels. But I am not familiar with script language... Thanks in advance. Yi-ping Chang
Which text editor is compatible with crxvt?
Hello, guys: I would like to know which text editor is compatible with big-5 Chinese text. I have "xcin" and "crxvt" installed in my linux box. Because my favorite editor is vi, I tried to open a Chinese document with that in crxvt terminal, but what I found is some thing like \056\378\053. It didn't turn these special characters into Chinese but just print their code. So if somebody can help me out on this, I will really appreciate it. Thanks in advance. Yi-ping Chang
What filter to use for HP Deskjet 520?
Hi, guys: I got an HP DeskJet 520 from a friend of mine moments ago. I tried it out, using 'dj500-filter' of magicfilter package. It seemed to function well (paper is loaded correctly, the printing head is moving), but nothing printed out. I am not sure if I chose the wrong filter, or just the ink cartridge has dried out. The only other choices maybe possible are 'deskjet-filter', 'dj500c-filter', and 'j550c-filter'. Can anybody tell me which one definitely will work before I spend money on a new ink cartridge? Thanks! Yi-ping Chang
Problem on customizing kenel
Hi, Everybody: I am trying to customize my kernel. Basically, I followed the instruction on Debian FAQ. After 'make menuconfig', I typed in make-kpkg --revision Custom.1 kernel_image It didn't finish the job. The last couple lines of message are as follows: make [2]: as86: Command not found make [2]: *** [bbootsect.o] Error 127 make [2]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/kernel-source-2.0.34/arch/i386/boot' make [1]: *** [bzImage] Error 2 make [1]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/kernel-source-2.0.34' make: *** [build] Error 2 Did I do anything wrong? What's is 'as86'? Is there any extra package I should install to accomplish the job? Thank a lot! Yi-ping Chang <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
