Using my phone as modem.
Hi there! I have a LG GS500 phone and I want to use it as a modem with debian. The problem is that when I plug it in to my PC with an USB cable and try to connect through it to the Internet with the NetworkManager program, at the first few seconds I succeed to surf the Internet but after a few seconds the connection is terminated by the pppd daemon because the device didn't respond to 4 echo requests. When I try to disconnect and then reconnect by the NetworkManager program it says that the connection could not be established. I've tried to reconnect through wvdial but it says that the modem is hung up. Is anyone here have an idea how to solve this trouble? USB hub problem.
Hi there! I've a Toshiba USB 3.0 hard disk drive and when I attach it directly to the USB controller on my PC I succeed to mount it without any problem, but surprisingly, when I attach it to my PC via a 4-port USB hub, things get complicated. For some reason, the system registers the hard disk drive as a character device under the name: '/dev/sg3' and the mount command refuses to mount it and emits the following error messages: Error reading bootsector: Illegal seek Failed to sync device /dev/sg3: Invalid argument Failed to mount '/dev/sg3': Illegal seek What should I do in order to be able to mount the HDD via the USB hub too? Re: Re: USB hub problem.
Hi! Thanks for replying! As per your question, the USB hub has not a jack for an external power supply since it is designed to receive all its power from the USB bus itself. moreover, the HDD itself is powered solely on the bus power. But I think you're likely to be correct since Microsoft Windows XP is also not able to mount the HDD when it is attached via the hub. apparently those devices need a hub with external power supply to provide them with their power consumption requirements. Re: Re: Re: Fwd: install packages without verification SOLVED.
The package debian-archive-keyring contains the archive key that verifies the packages. If your system is complaining that it can't verify the package then the cause is almost always an outdated debian-archive-keyring package. Verify that the package is up to date. # apt-get update # apt-get install debian-archive-keyring # apt-get update The second apt-get update is needed after debian-archive-keyring is upgraded in order to do the verify. Fwd: install packages without verification.
Hi there!! Recently, I've downloaded and installed into my USB stick the live-boot debian 7 version operation system (wheezy). I've chosen to add an ext2 partition and to name it 'live-rw' in order to add a persistence functionality to the changes I make. The problem however is that when I try to install a new package or upgrade an existed one, using the apt-get install command, I get a question asking me: 'Install these packages without verification?' and above this question is a list of some packages that cannot be verified. so my question is why does some packages cannot be verified and how to solve this trouble? Thanks in advance!! atar.

Re: Re: Driver for a TP-LINK USB wireless adapter.
You might have some luck with the firmware-atheros package. Install it and add a line ath9k in /etc/modules. HTH Hi there!! I've installed the package you've suggested and loaded all of its modules (not just ath9k) to the kernel by the modprobe command. unfortunately, this didn't solve the problem since the 'wicd' network manager which I use to configure my network connections isn't able to detect the TP-LINK wireless device. I also don't know what's its interface name to provide it to the 'wicd' network manager. hope you've a solution. Yes, I've reconfigured Syslinux to load the new kernel image (2.6.32-5-686) and the corresponding new initramfs. Note: it's worth to note here that I'm using at the Live version of Debian from the Debian Live Project. Can you describe your setup more precisely ? I cannot mount vfat filesystems and when I try to run 'modprobe vfat' it emits an error message and tell me to look at the output of the 'dmesg' command. as I've wrote at the start of this discussion, the dmesg says: vfat: Unknown symbol utf8s_to_utf16s_fixed.
