modconf and whiptail?

I went to upgrade and it says the new version of modconf depends on whiptail
which isn't a package, teh 'i' command shows two different depends though,
one says newt0.2 (or similiar number) and the other shows whiptail, is this
a bug? if not where is whiptail?

increase my monitors horizontal and vertical rates, commented out the

detecting it as TVGA which my card isn't, htough it is a Trident)

the problem is the postal service laws have no sway on electronic mail and
this kind of message is currently totally legal :(

there are moves to make the junk-fax law cover e-mail as well but the
companies that use spam-email (like Cyberpromo.com) are fighting against it

the cost of the ISP and therefore the users who want ot be protected from

After `make xconfig' do `make depend' and `make clean' before doing

A note about make menuconfig, if you have a SoundBlaster and don't use the

libc6 upgrade

1997-09-05 Thread kestrel
Im trying to upgrade to libc6 and following the howto, the problem Im
getting is this:

 Shadow:~# dpkg -B --install libc6_2.0.4-1.deb
dpkg: considering removing libc5 in favour of libc6 ...
dpkg: no, debianutils is essential, will not deconfigure
it in order to enable removal of libc5.
 dpkg: regarding libc6_2.0.4-1.deb containing libc6:
  libc5 conflicts with libc6
libc6 (version 2.0.4-1) is to be installed.
 dpkg: error processing libc6_2.0.4-1.deb (--install):
conflicting packages - not installing libc6
 Errors were encountered while processing:
  libc6_2.0.4-1.deb

any ideas on what I should do? should I get the new debian-utils package and
install it with libc6 or something else?

Can you find out whether the problem is at the fetchmail end or the
smail end? I'm not using smail, so the messages will be different,
 but try:

 [snip]

Also try adding `-S localhost' to the fetchmail options.

well I didn't have to change fetchmail, nor did I do anything ot smail, it
started working after I installed a newer version of netbase and netstd, not
sure what got fixed but everything works fine now :)

[Q] libdb.so.1, runq, and setup signature

1997-08-23 Thread kestrel
I recently had to reinstall Debian (had done something I later found out I
shouldn't have done). With the new installation using stable non-free and
contrib but my previous kernel image (saved some of the most important
stuff) every time I try to do a man command i get the following:
man: can't open cache '/etc/ld.so.cache'
man: can't load library 'libdb.so.1'
and during bootup (I use Lilo since I have win95 on my machine still) I get:
   no setup signature found
also I've been getting messages from cron about runq and 'unable to run
/bin/sh permission denied'

any help would be appreciated
