proper transition to perl5.005?

1999-07-11 Thread keyoz
What's the proper way to install perl5.005?

Should I really remove netscape-*?

Or will I just wait for unstable to become consistent?

vim and the control keys

1999-03-11 Thread keyoz
Hi folks!

This is my last resort after reading the archive and the manpages.

My problem is that when vim is in insert mode the control+arrow keys
doesn't work as expexted in an xterm or the console. It works fine while
in GUI mode. Is there any solution to this? Being a DOS/WinXX immigrant,
I'm used to that kind of movement while editing :-). If there is no
solution to this, I'll switch to EMACS (aaarrgghh! no color on tty's)

Please Cc: me (I'm unsubscribed as of the moment (still finding the right
solution to filter/sort a maildir))

TIA and see y'all soon

there's an example in /usr/doc/fetchmail

My /etc/ppp/ip-up does not appear to be working. Am I correct in assuming
that in Debian, ip-up won't work unless it is placed in /etc/ppp/ip-up.d ?
I want to start fetchmail when I go online and I believe that is where my
 script needs to be placed.

/etc/ppp/ip-up.d is where you put scripts whenever you go online e.g tell
wwwoffle that your box is up send queued emails

I've downloaded the .deb files for the basic gnome system from

 with dpkg.

The problem is, it's conflicting with the versions of gimp and gtk+
and glib that I have installed at the moment (snipped output from dpkg
 -l);

 gimp1.0.0-1The layers-based, non-Motif GNU Image Manipu
libgtk1 1.0.4-1The GIMP Toolkit set of widgets for X
libgimp11.0.0-1Libraries necessary to run the GIMP

just get libgtk1.1.* it won't interfere in any way with libgtk 1.0.*.
Of course you would also need the libs/packages that libgtk1 depends upon

Apart from the solutions other people here suggested, you could install
the dotfile generator for bash. It has a point and click interface for
changing the colors in your prompt.

Tried it. too complex.

alternative?

yes there is. compile those latest packages yourself if you have the
luxury of time. If ever there are debianized packages for those, those
files you compiled get overwritten. It's fun compiling sometimes, you
should try it.
