It's just a number. I agree, but I meant their features. Storage Live Migration and Guest SMP for KVM will be supported only on 0.12.0. This makes me a little insecure about it's stability. Hi I installed VMWare Server (HowtoForge for info) on Debian 5. I run the following environments on it: Debian 4 Debian 5 Windows XP Windows Vista Windows 7 Windows 2000 Server Windows 2003 Server Windows 2008 Server All images transfered from a Workstation Environment. A little slow to start but once running, they are a dream. It's totally free. And I'm using it. Win and Freebsd both work for me. Just pay attention the network card configuration to meet your requirement. Obviously, I will run Debian under the hood, but what would you run on top of it to support 5 VMs? You can achieve your goals with a lot of virtualisation technologies. On questions like this you will get several answers from different people that they are fully satisfied with their solutions. (Xen, KVM, Virtualbox and and and) For myself I use Xen, KVM and VMWare Server. All three have disadvantages but they work great for me and my servers. For me Xen is the most reliable and feature rich technology but the Linux kernel folks do not like the code. KVM might be the shooting star in the Linux Kernel world, but I think it is a bit new and misses some feature Xen already has. VMWare Server has a higher demand on hardware but easier to setup.
