The move to systemd could happen with Linux Mint 18 and LMDE 3, giving this new technology and the Linux ecosystem 2 years (or more) to mature and to iron out integration and compatibility issues. Cinnamon in particular is built without systemd support by default and the development team is planning to change this in version 2.6 to give the DE the ability to switch at runtime between systemd and consolekit/upower without the need to recompile anything. http://blog.linuxmint.com/?p=2764 -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-user-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Not so quick. systemd is a huge mistake for Debian and other distros, a very sad mistake, Devuan or BSD will be a far better option for servers, if not much more. What are the key changes Devuan needs to make to achieve this? As far as I can see, this is achievable in Jessie. I've tried to have a quick browse through the Devuan git repository, but the changes I've found are only essentially 's/Debian/Devuan/'. I haven't dug particularly deep, though. Not my impression at all. The Alpha 2 installer just came out. I was able to install devuan in a virtual box without a problem, and so now one of my virtual desktops is now a Devuan version of Jessie. Systemd is not installed. I'm able to run my key applications also without problem. The project seems to be coming along quite nicely (still needs to replace udev). I look forward to a Beta. [OT] Is Devuan a hoax?
Does anyone here have any inside information on what is happening (or not happening) with the Devuan project? It seems to be dead, or at least dying. I am (more than) starting to think the whole thing was just a sick, sleazy hoax/disinformation campaign by you-know-who to confuse and disillusion any remaining heroic opposition to the systemd takeover of (at least) all of GNU/Linux.
