Then you can try what I've suggested. As root, open /etc/inittab, 
locate this line:

***
1:2345:respawn:/sbin/getty 38400 tty1
***

And append the setterm command:

***
1:2345:respawn:/sbin/getty -I `setterm -clear all` 38400 tty1
***

Save the file and restart. 

This will clear the screen (tty1) after booting.

What Debian version?

IIRC this seems to be already enabled in sid... for lenny/squeeze you may 
use the setterm -clear option from /etc/inittab file.
