Can I setup my computer to print off of a windows network?
Right now i do not have a printer attached to my computer. But, I am networked with another computer in my house that IS connected to a printer. However, that computer is running WinXP Home. Can I set up Debian Unstable (with 2.6.9) kernel to print off of that printer like you can using windows networking? Thanks! I use cups as a print server and then use it to access a windows share via a device uri of smb://pooh/laser, where '//pooh' is a windows 98 machine and 'laser' is the shared printer on that machine. I don't know if this also works with win xp home. It ought to, but I can't even get and xp (home) laptop to talk to a samba fileshare at the moment, so I don't feel 100% confident about this. -- Alan Chandler [EMAIL PROTECTED] First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win. --Gandhi -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. When defining the print queue in cups, use the smb:// device type and point it to the windows print queue, and make sure you have access to print to windows remotely. That's it, except you'll need to also find a driver (ppd file) that works for linux. -- _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ / \ / \ / \ / \ / \ / \ / \ / \ / \ / \ / \ / \ / \ ( t | i | m | @ | i | t | . | k | p | t | . | c | c ) \_/ \_/ \_/ \_/ \_/ \_/ \_/ \_/ \_/ \_/ \_/ \_/ \_/ GPG key fingerprint = 1DEE CD9B 4808 F608 FBBF DC21 2807 D7D3 09CA 85BF -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. That's it, except you'll need to also find I believe you have to connect as a regular user, IIRC there is a problem printing as the guest user from linux for some reason (at least I haven't managed to make it work). a driver (ppd file) that works for linux. Look at the foomatik packages there is a ppd package that has quite a few printer drivers. Not sure which of the packages are actually needed though. -- _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ / \ / \ / \ / \ / \ / \ / \ / \ / \ / \ / \ / \ / \ ( t | i | m | @ | i | t | . | k | p | t | . | c | c ) \_/ \_/ \_/ \_/ \_/ \_/ \_/ \_/ \_/ \_/ \_/ \_/ \_/ GPG key fingerprint = 1DEE CD9B 4808 F608 FBBF DC21 2807 D7D3 09CA 85BF -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe.
