I do not know which one are you talking ... there is too much and many are highly technical documents. I hamble work is: http://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/debian-reference/ It is technical end-user oriented I think you maybe looking for The Debian Administrator's Handbook Author: Raphaël Hertzog, Roland Mas Publisher: Freexian URL: http://debian-handbook.info Which is hidden deep in the link for Debian book. Also for non-technical / user oriented guide, Ubuntu may give you such introduction. Although we try to make it easy, driving Debian requires you to be technical to some extent > I found out, during an engineering co-op assignment 40 years ago, > just how difficult it is to write technical documentation aimed at > someone with a different background. BTW, sorry for double mailing but I also think it's worth mentioning that nowadays its just Debian. It has other kernels available, such as hurd and kfreebsd. Re: Debian/Linux tutorials.
Machtelt Garrels wrote a terrific introductory guide in its simplicity. http://tldp.org/LDP/intro-linux/html/intro-linux.html IMHO, it's impossible to have a "perfect guide" or best in some universal sense. Similar to what happens with software, our knowledge grows with gaps and it's up to us which gaps to overlap. With her guide you should be able to grasp some crucial concepts and from there proceed according to your needs. But beware that linux kernel and bash are not what sets debian apart from other operating systems. -- I challenge you to play the game in which there is no loser but everything is fun and worthwhile! --- Begin Message --- On Thu, 2013-06-06 at 14:11 +0300, atar wrote: > I wanted to know please where can I enrich my knowledge about Linux at > general and especially about Debian The Debian Handbook may be useful. If you are looking for some more targeted but generic tutorials: The Geek Stuff: http://www.thegeekstuff.com nixcraft: http://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/ HowtoGeek: http://www.howtogeek.com Howto Forge: http://www.howtoforge.com There is a wealth of information on those sites about Linux, other *nixes, and the tools that drive them. --b On Thu, Jun 6, 2013 at 3:04 PM, Lisi Reisz wrote: > On Thursday 06 June 2013 19:10:24 Tixy wrote: > > On Thu, 2013-06-06 at 14:11 +0300, atar wrote: > > > I wanted to know please where can I enrich my knowledge about Linux at > > > general and especially about Debian > > > > The Debian Handbook may be useful. That is your opinion, Richard. It is not one shared by everybody, and we were all newbies at some stage. Have a look Atar, and judge for yourself. Specifically "Introduction to Linux" was a great start: http://www.tldp.org/guides.html And http://www.tldp.org/LDP/www.debian.org/doc/manuals/debian-tutorial/ although obsolete is still gives you a good grounding, I feel. After that, you can try working into specific topics by searching on youtube, google etc. Good luck Kailash -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-user-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
