Or use a browser that is able to disable the page style ;). For
Firefox/Iceweasel, assumed you enabled the menu bar, it's
View > Page Style > No Style
instead of "Basic Page Style. To enable the menu bar for current
versions of Firefox/Iceweasel right click somewhere at the top and check
"Menu Bar".

When I suspect this (usually on web pages), I highlight the whole
thing. Background-colored text then shows up.

Thanks guys for the responses. It was black font on black background. So
I changed the color scheme, as some of you have told me to, and boom!
Problem gone.

Another possibility is that it is working fine, but with black text.
No, I'm not joking, I've seen this more than once. You could try typing
the name of an application you know will run from the terminal. If that
works, dig into the terminal profile settings and select the system
colours (or deselect if this is already selected).

I once had a similar problem - when pulseaudio had hung for some
reason. Turned out that because the audio path was blocked, GNOME
apps (mainly gnome-terminal) would hang when doing the sound effects
(which I thought I had turned off). Other tool like xterm, rxvt etc
worked fine...

Hope this helps

Black fonts on black background?

GNOME-Terminal is blank or inactive in Awesome WM on Debian 7

2014-05-25 Thread Muntasim Ul Haque

Hi,
GNOME-Terminal is blank in Awesome WM. It just opens but doesn't show
anything. Not even by username and hostname. Absolutely nothing. But
Xfce terminal was working great. Even Terminator is working properly. So
what's wrong with GNOME-Terminal?
