How to upgrade from Etch to Lenny? (was: Umts pendrive modem installation)

I've been following the guide at:

 http://www.debianclan.org/index.php?option=com_contenttask=viewid=154Itemid=38

and I managed to make the Momodesign umts modem work under Debian Etch.
Although, the connection is very slow: 15 Kb/s whereas under MS Windows
 they're about 80 Kb/s.

Does anyone have any experience with this matter and/or any suggestions about
what the problem might be with Debian Linux? I compiled the kernel, as
described in the above guide, so it shouldn't be because the kernel is too
old. Maybe a complete kernel update is necessary?

In order to solve the problem, I want to try to upgrade completely from Etch
to Lenny, but don't know what exactly to put in sources.list. Please can
anyone suggest the proper lines?

Here is my sources.list:

deb-src cdrom:[Debian GNU/Linux 4.0 r0 _Etch_ - Official DVD Source-3
20070407-17:27]/ etch contrib main

Thanks
Rodolfo
