I use a ZOOM K56X D/F (External, Data/Fax) and think its a great modem.
Apparently several magazines agree with me as well. Linux took it with no
complaints and it was pretty cheap (Iow cost not low quality). Just make sure
your phone lines will connect at 33.6+. And initialize it with

AT&F&C1&D2S95=1

True, But any external 56k(flex|X2) modem should work fine. Make shure you
have a good serial board to support the full speed the modems can give
you. I you have an older mother board that is. :)

Winmodem products are really a PITA in any SO other than win95.

irqtune solve this problem for every modem.
This is a PC hardware conception problem. Hard disks have preference to
serial lines in the standard configuration.

Perhaps, this should be automatically managed by debian. For instance, if I
have loaded PPP.

1997-11-13 Thread Matthew Tebbens

My USR v.everything w/x2 flash upgrade works fine. The x2 part would work
better if I paid the $60 or so and called that USR bbs and get it turned on.

Sorry, but I "beg to differ"

"Winmodem" products are really a PITA in Linux - unless something's changed
that I don't know about

Also, I've had internal modems that have caused problems under Linux/Unix in
the past Although I didn't look too closely into it, someone mentioned
that this was some sort of an interrupt problem

Anyway, I was just looking for comments from anyone as to successes/failures
with various brands...

Thanks,
Kevin

This isn't a Linux issue. Any modem, whether K56Flex or x2 will work under
Linux.

K56Flex Modems

1997-11-13 Thread Kevin Traas
Can anyone make any recommendations for K56Flex modems (preferably external)
that work well under Linux?

I'm looking to possibly configure two using EQL to get roughly 100Kbps
performance from my ISP.
