I always put unstable (slink) before stable. So if it isn't in slink, I
must have gotten it from Stable. I know for sure that I didn't download
it from some place else

From slink? But KDE is not in slink! And did you get it to work
 without errors / error messages?

  Hi!
Where can I find the latest KDE debian packages, and which version
  would that be?

There are none and it would be 9807??-1.0

So, apparently, we should just install from the source?
But a while ago someone on the list pointed out that there are debs

 ftp://ftp.timsnet.com/pub/kde/pre1.1/19981026

I am downloading as I write... it's a slow server... does anyone else
on the list use that version? What version do you use?

KDE: krdb missing! Help!

1998-12-08 Thread Daniel Elenius
There's something wrong with my KDE installation (I use the standard
hamm packages). 'krdb' is missing (and if I run startkde in X, it says:
'startkde: krdb: command not found'
'find -name *krdb*' in / as root doesn't yield anything.
How can I fix this? I installed all the kde packages, including
kdelibs0g-dev.

dpkg -S krdb
kdebase: /usr/X11R6/bin/krdb

So re-install kdebase, I guess.

Did that, and it didn't change anything. 'dpkg -S krdb' just gives me:
dpkg: *krdb* not found.
strange...?

Try removing kdebase first. Dpkg will complain about dependencies, so
you'll need to override them. What version of kdebase are you installing?

Still doesn't work. I purged kdebase, and all of its dependencies, and
re-installed it, but still the same error. I use the 980312-8 version in the
/hamm/contrib/binary-i386/x11 dir. I read about a newer version on the
list, but I can't find that info now. Do you know of it? I did visit
that ftp site, but I couldn't download anything... something was down.

Your version is (I think) beta 4. It is not 1.0, in any case. I believe
the version of 1.0 is 980710 or something like that. I looked for the
.deb files on ftp.kde.org but they were not there! They should have been
in
ftp://ftp.kde.org/pub/kde/stable/latest/distribution/deb/hamm/binary-i386/
but they weren't. I'm not sure where you need to look in order to find
the current kde .debs. Email the Debian package maintainer. You should
find his address in /usr/doc/kdebase or something.
