*plonk*. I'm sure that will indeed serve a useful purpose.

This is mailing list dedicated to the discussion of Debian GNU/Linux and

Well, I think they'll still get back to their hidey holes. But if
you're feeling sadistic (and don't cockroaches make you feel that

then trap a couple of ants under the same glass (if you've got

No, that leaves them still alive and back in their hidey holes. If you

Sorry to jump down your throat. I just feel that a lot of the rights that I
have taken for granted for many years now, are now being infringed upon by
people who have good intentions. I just don't want to wake up one day and
realize that in our quest for security and protection we have sacrificed our
own freedom. Do we expose ourselves to harm by allowing people to move
around freely? sure as Sh-t we do. But what is the alternative? We walk a
slippery slope and I believe we have lost our footing. We have hit a point
where simply disagreeing with the president is deemed unpatriotic.

Again, I'm sorry to attack you. I know you wanted to do the right thing and
I can't hold that against someone, at least not after calming down :). I'm
just afraid that one day in the future we are all going to feel a little
squirrelly and its going to be too dam late to do anything about it.

An alternate explanation is it is intended for the Malaysian market.
The only other reference to 'sunbeamtech and "bin laden"' on google
indicates it is not sold in the UK.

Please do not pretend there is no market for such things.

Well, I feel squirrelly about my decision as well. It struck me very
much as something one would do in a totalitian state, very Orwellian.

However, I wrote the company and told them what I did. If there is
nothing wrong going on, all will be quickly forgotten as just another
wierd thing that happened. If there is some criminal activity occuring,
then I did the right thing. If there is no criminal activity but merely

Is that your standard of appropriateness? If something is funny, or at least
making an attempt at humor? If so, then there are several racial / ethnic /
sexual jokes that should be completely acceptable by your standards.
Fortunately, just like decency, humor is a matter of opinion. Opinions are
like a--holes, everyone has one and everyone thinks the other guys stinks.

P.S. - This is also an opinion (so feel free to disagree, but please don't
call the FBI on me) but I believe that the concentric circles behind Bin
Lauden represent a bulls eye. If this is the case then it should now meet
your standards (as if it mattered in the first place)

>

If the FBI shouldn't prosecute, and as you said, has absolutely no right to
prosecute, why would you report it to them. I'm sure the FBI has more
important things to do then to pressure someone into conforming to your
standards of decency.

>
> However, they should *not* do it, and the world must be informed of

There are a lot of things that should *not* be done. There are many things
that should not be said. Thankfully the United States is a place that allows
you to say these things even if people don't agree with it. Can you be
offended. Sure. Can you be disgusted. Yes you can. Can you not allow this
person to repeat it. No, that is one of the things you can't do. But, feel
free to stop listening.
I agree, knowledge is power, but knowledge is only attained through the free
exchange of ideas (even the ones you don't agree with)

>
> Never again will the world not know how this company thinks.

I like beer. Not the most earth-shattering thing, but it is a true thing.
And now the world knows how I think.
Who cares what people think, as long as they stay thoughts. There are
several people who don't like me. It is there right not to like me, as long
as it stays just a thought.
Even if this badge were pro bin lauden (which I do not believe to be true)
it creates no danger. Simply having a radical opinion is not grounds to call
the FBI.
Now if you had proof that monies earned from this badge were being sent to
bin lauden, then you would have cause to call the FBI.

Please do not delude yourself into thinking that your actions serve some
grater purpose. You are not saving my soul. You are not protecting the
general public from mass hysteria. You are not protecting some innocent
child from the evils of the world.
Everyone on this list is capable of making decisions for themselves. If you

right to make my own decisions. Don't sugarcoat your attempt to force your

I wasn't saying I would buy one, far from it, I just thought the whole topic was a
little over stated is all, but I do appreciate your concern.

Of course I didn't buy it. And of course the FBI shouldn't prosecute
them. And of course they have the right to do it.

However, they should *not* do it, and the world must be informed of

It depends on how the 'end' is defined. There have been several 'ends'

Hey, I'm from the South: there are a lot of people who like the
Confederate Flag, tattoos of Swatiskas, burning crosses, and all that
shit. It makes a lot of money and a lot of people think like that.

I know all about where your head is at.

However, I am confident that, in due course, exposing this sort of thing
makes it go away, in the shadows, knashing its teeth. Evil always wears
a mask, and cannot stand in decent company.

Everyone who buys one, and I visit their house, and I see it, I say
"well, now I know everything I need to know about *THAT* guy."

It serves me too.

All that I can see that you've done is promote the product by spreading the website
and encouraging people to look at it...

In fact, I think you'll find the company's laughing because of this sudden increase in
interest of their website.

And, as a result of that, if some of the people who look at it aren't offended, they
may find increased productivity by way of the increased activity because some of these
people may find something they want to purchase...

Just my 2 cents worth...

Why report it to the FBI? There's nothing illegal about it, freedom of speech
and all that. I would have thought they would be preoccupied investigating
actual crimes, and things like terrorism.

The FBI? About a picture? I'd say you're one of the cockroaches.

Let Sunbeam Tech know Case Mod products with Bin Laden are not welcome

2004-03-06 Thread Number Six
http://www.sunbeamtech.com/new/products/el/el%20series-el%20badge.htm

Frys carries the Sunbeam tech "EL-Case badge" case light products.
They do not carry the Osama Bin Laden logo, but you can see it on the
back of the "ordinary" images as a choice.

I compained to Frys to at least modify the packaging so the products
they carry do not carry a picture of Osama Bin Laden at all. They said
they'd talk to their buyers about it.

I wrote Sunbeamtech and CC:'d the American Institute in Taiwan (the US
does not have an embassey) and the FBI and asked them to change the
product as well. I also reported them to tips.fbi.gov.

They have not yet responded. My option as a citizen is to inform the
public about this unfortunate decision this company has made. The
Saddam Hussein image appears to be ridiculing him, but the Bin Laden
does not.

The only way to kill the cockroaches is to turn on the lights and watch
them scurry away. For those who feel this is the wrong image for a
Taiwanese company to project to their trading partner, please spread
this meme.

Thanks.
