With set6x86 enabling suspend on HLT, my system reboots immediately --
cheap motherboard. It worked fine on a better board though.

Re: Linux run from Cyrix-GX200MMX CPU PC

1998-07-18 Thread Alex Kwan
Hi! Nate,

Thank You very much,

(1) now my system's kernel is 2.0.33, which and where
the patch file for Cyrix-GX200MMX? I want to download it

(2) Which X-server I needed for running X?

Best regards

Yes, I have one. It works peachily. I do reccomend installing and using
set6x86 and patching your kernel with the cyrix patch (the new kernels, I
believe) don't need this. So as to turn on some specific features of the
CPU and so Linux will recognize it and lists it's name correctly in the
logs. set6x86 and the patch are not required, just reccomended.

Nate

Get 2.0.34 or .35 .33 has some flaws. Otherwise do not worry -- I
used .33 for a while.

SuSE just released a X server especially for your chip. The article was
posted on slashdot.org today (Friday).

I see no reason why it would not. I have installed, run, and seen Linux
and Debian on many Cyrix CPUs. I personally have a 150+.

Yes it does, in fact that's what I'm using right now :-) You also might
want to get the set 6x86 program which allows a slight speed-up and
greatly reduces the temp. of your processor. (I can say that on my
system the processor temp. goes down 10 degrees F when running Linux
over win 95)
