Yeah - looked at doing that. Not much chance though. The SourceForge
site lists last activity 2003 or so. Too bad - it was a fun game.
Installed fine on my old machine but not on this.

Even if there's no upstream activity, the bug could be fixed in the debian
package. Less likely, true, but not impossible. Much more possible depending
how much you're willing to help. :-)

What is very strange is that the problems are related to playing the
game on this machine. My previous machine played it just fine, and it
isn't the version either as far as I can tell, because I removed the
Squeeze version and installed the Lenny version and exactly the same
thing happened. Common denominator is this machine, but how that would
impact on playing a game like dopewars is beyond me.

As for helping out, I'd be happy to - but I really don't know what help
I could be: I couldn't code, but am very happy to test it and work
through bugs, etc., but that's about as far as I think that I could help.

Is it the machine or the user?

Create a new user and run things as that user. Any change?

Hi Tzafrir

Thanks for the idea. After creating a new user the same problems still
apply. My suspicions are further endorsed that this may be a machine
issue, only because on my old machine running testing (through Lenny and
Squeeze), the game played fine. Now I can't even get the Lenny version
to work properly.

But what would be the issue on my machine that would lead to these kinds
of problems I wonder?

Thanks for any further thoughts/ suggestions.

Cheers

Well - an update. I removed Squeeze's version and installed the version
from Lenny - and the same thing applies. For whatever reason I just
cannot adjust how many items one can sell - it always comes through as 1
item, even if one manually enters the correct number.

So, if Squeeze and Lenny versions are showing up screwy ... the common
denominator is my machine and possibly the gtk libraries or something
 else.

Any ideas on what to be looking for?
