with new kernel
all is set default in menu.lst
but splash image do not update?

I have a double boot -windows on first partition.
$ ls -l /boot/grub/splash.xpm.gz
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 41 2009-03-13 09:39 /boot/grub/splash.xpm.gz -
splashimages/debian-moreblue-swirl.xpm.gz
You need package grub-splashimages.
