You will fine the file at: /boot/config-x.x.x where the x is a value of your kernel release. Is it possible to determine what the configuration settings were for the stock kernels that Debian packages? If you have .deb kernel install look in /boot/config-?? kervel version no. That should be .config for the kernel configuation. Just copy that file to .config in /usr/src/linux, then reconfig kernel base on that file.
