I purposefully did not mention spamcop in my email because for me spamcop did not reduce spam. If it is anything, my spam volumes increased after I started reporting to spamcop. But since there is no way to prove this, it is at best an allegation against spamcop. While the concept behind spamcop is sound, it is not very efficient in removing spam from your Inboxes unless you use the spamcop's DNSBL to reject the spam messages. But if you do this, there will be lot of false positives and you risk not getting legitimate messages. Moreover, according to spamcop's policies, you should not report spam from debian mailing lists (or any mailing lists you intentionally subscribed to) or spam from bugs.debian.org unless you are administrator of these lists. So it is pretty much useless in my case as almost all the spam I receive is from mailing lists. On a related note, spam mails sent to mailing lists are perfectly acceptable to knujon. hth raju -- Kamaraju S Kusumanchi http://www.people.cornell.edu/pages/kk288/ http://malayamaarutham.blogspot.com/ -- Free pop3 email with a spam filter. http://www.bluebottle.com/tag/5 -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. I think the correct solution to spam is to look at the root cause of it. Spammers send spam emails because they make money out of it. They make money by advertising their spammed websites (well, most of the spam emails). If we are able to shutdown these spammy websites then at least that would reduce the amount of spam hovering over the internet. Usually gmail filters it out pretty well, but I think perhaps it white listed the debian-user address. I hope it can catch the right stuff without blocking the real questions. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Since my spam folder isn't growing as fast as the mail was arriving yesterday, it may be that the mailserv is catching more of the spam. You shouldn't have a problem with gmail filtering based solely on the debian-user address. Mark the spam, look for mistakenly flagged ham, and gmail will learn. -- Michael A. Re: The excessive amounts of spam I am getting
Sidarth Dasari wrote: Is anybody else getting tons of spam emails from this mailing list? Yes. I am receiving a lot of spam emails. Most of it is sent to bugs.debian.org of which some get forwarded to debian mailing lists. Currently, I am forwarding the spam emails to knujon project who seem to be very effective in shutting down the websites advertised in the spam emails. If I have time, sometimes I send complaints to the registrars of the websites involved (using a tool called complainterator). Some of the registrars are quite pro-active and shut down the spammy nameservers reported. If a spammy nameserver is shutdown, it shuts down hundreds spam websites in a single blow. However the whole process is quite time consuming...
