Where's /dev/lp0 gone in Etch?
I just installed Etch on i386 (previously used Sarge). My printer, on the parallel port, has stopped working. I'm using LPRng with a custom print filter that sends lpd output to /dev/lp0. Unfortunately there is no longer any /dev/lp0, despite parport and parport_pc modules being loaded. Any suggestions how I can get /dev/lp0 back (or failing that, some other way of sending lpd output to the parallel port)? Or maybe udev only created /dev/lp0 when the printer is turned on (and not sleeping). - -- Ron Johnson, Jr. Jefferson LA USA Give a man a fish, and he eats for a day. It appeared that the /dev/lp0 device had not been recognized for some obscure reason, so the output was sent to /dev/other (or something like that), which did not exist. In the KDE printer setup I could set the output device to /dev/lp0, after which it did work. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Etch now uses udev to dynamically create devices. The device for your printer isn't going to appear until it is powered up and connected. If you printer *is* powered up and connected, then perhaps it is now on a different device. Check /var/log/messages, /usr/share/doc/udev, and the etch release notes for ideas on what that new device might be (or how to troubleshoot). -- Bill Wohler [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.newt.com/wohler/ GnuPG ID:610BD9AD -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe.
