Where is pgp?

1996-10-14 Thread Volker Ossenkopf
In an old package list, I have copied in August, the debian
pgp packages (US and international) were in non-free.

Nowadays, there does not seem to be any pgp package available.
I have scanned the ls-lRs at Debian and some mirrors, but
NO pgp.

I desperately need pgp since I have created some new
debian packages (xvmount and xcolorsel) but I cannot
submit them without pgping them (until now I never saw
a real reason for pgp signing or encrypting anything.).

Where can I find the debian pgp packages now?

Hoping for help -- Volker

To prevent problems because of US export restrictions, the
PGP packages were moved outside of the US.

Currently, you can find them at
http://www.cs.helsinki.fi/~wirzeniu/debian/index.html

I expect there'll be a centralized FTP site for non-US debian packages
(pgp, ssh, ssl,...).

Hope this helps,
Ray

Those packages are experimental versions, and have at least
one problem: they don't provide the package pgp. They're
better than nothing, of course.

Yes.

I placed them on the server mentioned below in contrib. Is this ok?

 Yes.

ftp.inf.tu-dresden.de:/pub/os/linux/debian-non-US should serve this
purpose.

As Lars said in a recent message on this list:

 Rosenberg Yigal:
It seems that in Debian 1.1.7 pgp-i and pgp-up were in non-free pkgs,
but in the newer dist' of Debian they are missing.
Can some one tell me why they are missing and whre can I find them .

Problems with US International Trade in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
Cryptographic programs require a license to export from the US.

We're arranging an FTP site in the free world. Stay tuned. :-)

So I guess the answer is: Stay tuned. I'm sure it will be announced when
it's available.
