That seems to work.

Whilst it opens up an iceape browser window with the URL mailto..., which
then opens up an iceape mail compser window, it does work, if not directly.

I had previously tried to find iceape using the paths /bin and /sbin, but
didn't find it there; the required path was, as you have indicated -
/usr/bin/iceape.

Thank you for that.

Unfortunately, after doing that, and opening iceweasel browser windows,
saving bookmark sets (Bookmark all tabs in window), then closing
windows, when I got down to three open windows, iceweasel froze, and
then I did a Lock Screen, but I could not restore the login session, and
now the computer will not boot into Debian - it seems that the change to
iceweasel, broke the Debian installation.

I get hard drive errors, then a final error something like No processes
running, and the system hangs.

I do not know how to access the error messages log file, from outside
the operating system; from Ubuntu,

ls: cannot access /dev/sda5/var: Not a directory

I have booted into Ubuntu, and ran fsck on the partition, and it shows
as clean, reagrdless opf the inode errors and processes loading too
fast, that show in the last screen of the boot messages that are
displayed on the screen.

But, the installation of Debian now seems to be destroyed.

In looking at a posting on the Debian laptop list, it could be that it
is that Xwindows is the cause of the destruction, rather than iceweasel.

I had previously believed that it could be found when finding the
Properties of an application; at present, I have the iceape mail
composer icon included in my panel at the bottom of the screen, on two
of my systems, and, by clicking on the icon with the non-dominant mouse
button (I had believed that I could previously do it with the listing
of the application in the menu entry, but that appears to now not
include a Properties option), it displays a Properties window for the
application.

However, as previously mentioned (in a posting by me, in this thread),
in viewing the Properties window, the Properties window lists the
following information:

Type - Application
Name - Iceape Mail Composer
Command - iceape -compose
Comment - Iceape Mail Composer
but not the path to the application.

Perhaps, if the Properties window included the path for the command,
e.g.,

Command - usr/bin/iceape -compose
which would be quite useful if it was possible to directly launch the
mail composer from another application, such as I had been seeking, or,
even, it would show the path for iceape itself, which could have been
used as it is now configured.

In inputting the option
Command - usr/bin/iceape -compose
and trying it, I note that it still launched the iceape web browser
window, with the mailto command as the URL, in addition to the iceape
mail composer window opening to create a new email message.

Anyway, thank you again for your help - it means that I can now launch
the iceape mail composer application, by clicking on a mailto link in an
iceweasel web browser window, which was what I was seeking.

Why doesn't iceweasel work with iceape

2010-02-27 Thread Bret Busby

I am running Debian 5.

I have iceweasel installed, and I have iceape installed.

I use iceape because it allows me, on clicking on a mailto link, to open
an iceape mail composer window.

In trying to configure iceweasel to do the same (iceweasel defaults to
opening evolution, which I understand to be much the same as microsoft
outlook), I open the iceweasel Edit - Preferences - Applications -
mailto option, and it displays the options Use Gmail, Use Yahoo!
Mail, Always ask, and Use other, which does not give access to
iceape mail composer.

But, it does not display an option for Use Iceape Mail Composer, and,
with iceape mail composer, in viewing the properties, and thus the
launch command, the iceweaselpreferences options, do not allow for
entering the command to run iceape mail composer; iceape -compose.

So, iceweasel recognises proprietary email applications (gmail and yahoo
mail), but, does not recognise the realted email application; iceape
mail composer, and, apparently, prohibits the use of iceape mail
composer, to acion mailto links.

Why doesn't iceweasel work with iceape?

Also, as an aside (as the first of those two commands, requires
